I figure if I wait till it drops to Under 800.00 I should be good. The Jan 11 to Jan 20 model is 818.00

just a bit lower and I will order.

Thats kind of what I thought - I tried looking at my prior invoices and some seem like its after coupon value but then includes shipping. 2 or 3 are that way and then one appears to be just on the base value so meh - all of mine have been DHL except the last one which was UPS.

I may place an order - prolly will be on Jan 3rd though.

all of the above could be used.

you best shot of not paying trump tax.

is using dhl.

and hope for the best.

i say this because my invoices have been calculated all four methods and have been taxed by all four methods.
fedex always maxes taxes
ups mostly maxes taxes
dhl sometimes maxes taxes.

now i know you may want an official ruling as to which method is correct.

don’t push it as the beginning of all these taxes started with someone that wanted a precise definition and the worst definition was found and many people were forced to pay back taxes.

i have had some luck with dhl this year.
and zero luck with fedex.

so buy one use dhl and pray you get lucky.

ok - I asked this before and I might be getting confused - if I order this T17 the price is 818.00 shipping is 123.95, brings it to 941.95 - then I use the coupon of 150, which drops price to 791.95.

In reference to tariff limit of 800 - which is used to calculate tariff?

a) 818.00 (base price)
b) 668.00 (base - coupon)
c) 941.95 (base + shipping)
d) 791.95 (base + shipping - coupon)

gear will arrive today  I just paid tax bill. I paid a low fee maybe due to it having a coupon and being under $800.00.

I will still owe 7% to NJ for sale tax. which will be about 56 to 60 usd more. I will pay that when I file my NJ state taxes.

One t17e on the other hand, which i got something like three weeks ago, already lost one board.
I would stay away from + and e, they seem to be just overclocked regular miners with bad results.
not happy.

my first t17 was purchased right before coins jumped in april 2019 was a nice cheap price it has run pretty much flawless since april.
my second t17 will arrive on monday the 23rd . I am hopeful this one is just as good.

I agree - mine has worked flawlessly. my first one was expensive - bought in May, was 1400 but I used a 368 coupon so that helped. this last one was the cheapest one I have had so far at 805

as a side note, all the T17's I have bought were listed/sold as 40TH/s units, they are averaging 42-43 though so I am also happy with that.

They calculate tariff off of a full price (coupons or credits don't count) PLUS shipping.
SO, full invoice price with shipping has to be below 800, imho.

i have found

1) fedex.   really strict on collecting
2) ups.     less strict
3) dhl.      least strict

but they all grab money.

sometimes dhl simply collects less then i expected

ups rarely collects less then i expected

fedex always collects full tariffs.

there are a lot of rules i don't fully understand.

i do know this every sale is fully new jeresy sales taxable  which means

1000 sale is 276+20 or 30 paper work fee. so that is say 306 and then 70 in NJ tax so 376 in taxes on a 1000 dollar item.

he ordered 1 t17   which was about 980  he paid 250 tax  so I am guessing he paid 25-27.6% tax.

I have one coming next week from  DHL  his came from UPS. I will mention my charge when I get it.  I have paid  over 2500 in import duties this year.  enough for 2 s17's.

Between buysolar me and the warehouse owner   we are over 4000 in import duties  and over 900 in New Jersey Sales tax.   maybe 5200 all told  enough for 4 s17's.

the miner was 805 and my tax was 259.97 or very close to 32%.

question - the limit is under $800 to avoid tariff - is this the net cost? or gross cost? for example, a T17 shipping in Jan is $818 and $124 for shipping for a total of $942, then if I use a $150 coupon, the net is $792 shipping included or $668 for the miner and $124 for shipping for a total of $792 - as that is under $800, do I avoid the tariff? or will they count the value before the coupon? what value do they use?  $818, $942, $668 or $792?

Yes I am a pirate, 300 years too late!
The funny thing on mine was the tax bill from the state was for units bought in 2017.  I'm waiting to see if I get dinged for 2018 & 2019 as well.

Clueless!
I almost sprang for a Jan S-17 Pro, until I remember last time I got a 25% duty, but to add insult I got a notice from the state of Illinois for 8% sales tax.

Hmmmmm....indeed...I wonder if this applies to Minnesota as the same. Anyone here has experience with anything from overseas getting hit with sales tax now with the internet state tax changes? I am unsure, but the shipping for such a unit is what in addition to all the above what? About $175 or some such? I always forget about shipping when I used to order stuff as well, it was annoying. But not much in the market at 10c kWh at these BTC prices anyway, but hey, a guy can hope!

Ja, that is definite gotcha with Formal Customs entries: CBP automatically notifies your state about your purchase and if you do not pay the sales tax (as you are supposed to with all out-of-state purchases depending on your states rules) the state will definitely eventually contact you about it.

With informal entries the state usually does not know about the purchase but -- depending on how lucky you feel you still should declare the purchase(s) come tax time or face the chance the state might find out later and come after you for it.
