I've got B3 and B10 units. Here's my thoughts on installing new firmware.
Just say no.
I've found the best strategy is point them at a stable pool (I use Kano), leave them alone, and pray you don't lose a blade.

I have these for the s7 and s9. https://i.imgur.com/BOjR5yo.png I have most of the fw for all the s3 c1 s4 etc aswell. Im sure one can check that they have not been altered in anyway> If anyone would need them i can upload them to my dropbox. pm me if so

Plus they pulled all the older firmware from the site.
Which is why for all miners I've had I always made sure to download/save the different versions shortly after they are released. I usually do not apply the updates but at least I always have the software in storage just in case this happens...I have most of them as well

Maybe we should pull from yours and other stashes and make a non-Bitmain source for folks who need 'em.

I just received my S9 and I got it up and mining. I noticed in that in the Firmware version that came with my S9, i don't have the option to adjust fan speed. This results in an annoying increase and decrease of fan speeds, kind of like a breeze with a slight whistle.
Is there anyway to downgrade the firmware so i can have access to customize fan speed percentage under the "Miner Configuration" page?

im already working with their support and an engineer to get this sorted out. at the very least we need fan speed control....not to lower the speed because its already too damn low but to raise it on one os these "newly designed" s9's. one is missing 1.5th/s which im getting a refund for because its way outta listed spec and the other has a board temp os 101 degrees because the fan speed it only 2280/3600 rpm not to mention the firmware overclocks that board to the damn moon.

B16 & 17 is the latest bitmain batches which haven't same freq for boards so it need there BMminer Version 2.0.0
i still have unstable internet connection and it seem like the only miner suffer from that is my B17!
i think the reason is it take a small package to decode and resend all the time unlike the old batches need along time to feel the lost connection
its really a small period of time

There is a SN sticker on the miner. tell them on support this SN and they should tell you the patch if you ordered it from ebay or something
