650M is the stock setting for batch 1.
600M is the stock setting for batches 2 and 3.
550M is possibly the stock setting for batch 4.
...
Is the B1 file the same as was shipped with the units?
And again, if anyone knows - how do I tell what I have?
My Ant S9, B2 has that very same firmware "s9-20160608-600M-release.tar.gz" that is on the site.
You can see the version date here:

Thanks.  I saw that, but was hoping they would reference the specific filename somewhere.  I guess not.
There was a version of this S series that listed the filename.  Or at least that's my recollection.

I see the firmware for the S9 is now available for download - has anyone taken it apart & inspected the miner software yet?

Has nobody checked?

I am afraid to try either of the posted firmware.  First can someone remind me how to check which version you have on the miner?

Second - They are both dated the same day.  Does it depend on the which batch you have?  One says 600M and the other 650M.
I have batch 1 so I assume the 650M is for me.  Don't know.

Electrical engineer. Mining since 2014.
I paid the massive VAT 24% to the Finnish customs, received 1pc Antminer S9 batch 2 and started mining at last thursday night.
Had few problems with low hash rate in one of the boards and once two of the boards suddenly stopped hashing..
After few reboots it is now hashing ok, GH/S(avg) is 12838 Gh/s, so it is close to the advertised hash rate.
PSU that I'm using is Bitmain APW3-12-1600-B2.

The S7 every single unit had a customs fee

So I'm not surprised the trend is continuing, IMO the US customs is now wel aware who Bitmain is and what their products are, and as such they are unwavering on the customs fees

I did not had any fees in US on seven individual S7 units of which most expensive was $1823 or something like that.
I also never had a fee on S1,S2,S3,S5. I also did not get fees on expensive Spondoolies.

I conclude that it is not that they are unwavering, it is that customs rules are not very well defined.
I very well may get a fee on S9, but it would mean that something changed, not that it was there all along.

It could also be US customs location? Mine all came through Alaska I think

Curmudgeonly hardware guy
I ordered out two batches of seven S7LN last week, one via UPS and one via DHL. The UPS arrived on Tuesday and I haven't heard a thing about fees of any kind. The DHL order, shipped a day earlier and also scheduled to have arrived on Tuesday, got hung up in China about customs, got Ohio because they needed more info for customs, and now it's hung up in St Louis waiting for payment of customs fees. I might get them on Monday.

I'm pretty disappointed; it was sort of a test and I expected more from DHL given that I've received packages from China via DHL in under 30 hours total transit time. Both orders were identical in size and merchandise cost, the only differences being carrier and the resulting slight variation in cost of shipping.

Back when the S7 was new and expensive, I got probably a dozen FedEx invoices for customs duties due because of hosting customers direct-shipping.

S1-S4 I never got any duty or customs fees no matter what shipping I chose

Located in Oregon US

From S5 I started to get customs fees every now and then..

Even with the special code someone told us all to use on our shipping address and special notes field, it doesn't work

So I paid the stupid duty to UPS (I figure I can contest it after the fact) and got my B3 S9 today. I deployed it at our data center powering it with a 2880 watt PSU from Finksy. Worked out of the box as advertised with no surprises.

It worked so well in fact that I tried bumping up the frequency to 650 (remember that B3 has default frequency of 550 and a correspondingly lower advertised hash rate). Hardware errors went from 0 to a manageable 0.0002% after a couple of hours. That boosted the hash rate from 12-ish THs to 13.6. Definitely worth it.

Temps are pretty cool since this is an air-conditioned DC. But it's interesting that each successive chain increases in temp:

ChainHWTemp(PCB)Temp(Chip)
184982
235383
3335890

Not surprisingly the hottest board has the worst hardware error rate. This seems to match what others have found regarding inconsistent cooling and airflow to the boards.

But all in all the results are not too bad.

Evil beware: We have waffles!
Damnnit... I paid UPS yesterday for fees owed, truck came today with the miner on it and -- driver said it was COD. Showed him the receipt and UPS conf# and doesn't matter 'cause the system still has not been updated for it...

Hopefully by time of the days-end pickup it will have cleared so I can get it today vs Monday.  Grrrrr..........

Sorry for you.  I still can't believe there are fees to be paid.  I think I have had UPS deliver all but one of my miners.  Never have I paid a fee. (USA)
Since early 2014 I gotten around 80 miners in total from Bitmain, this make only the 4th time I had to pay.

So, methinks something in the Customs rules deciding business (fees) or personal might have changed. Or, their monitoring/tracking software is now looking at how many/total value of goods you get in a month or so.

The IRS does the same regarding the banks having to report deposits over $10k. They now track it on a per-month basis and if a business it making a lot of deposits just under 10k the Feds get -- interested shall we say, and start talking to each other. In Michigan alone there have been several arrests and property/money seizures of folks running rural small business like a hardware store. Later thrown out of court but - good luck getting property/money back. t is often held for ages as 'possible money laundering evidence'.

Yeah, I coulda. Even brought my checkbook yesterday when it was supposed to show up before UPS decided it should take the scenic route. But it dinna show in the morning so I used their phone ccard payment. Nice agent btw. Anywho, just said screw it and them figure it out by Monday.

Only real significant bitch is that I was going to take my last 4 s5's at work offline to send to Sidehack for his Compacs and replace with the s9 still coming out ahead by >6th with 1/2 the power use.

Mine showed up today. Mining away right meow.
Mine sort of did...
UPS showed up at work to drop it off but... It was still tagged as COD for the customs/brokerage fee despite me paying UPS with a CCard around noon on Thursday.

I have the receipt and UPS clearance conf# but he said since their delivery system hasn't released it yet if it clears he'll be back around our normal pickups time to drop it off, if not, should be Monday.

5:00p came and went, no miner  Cry
WTF is wrong with UPS's accounting systems?Huh

Too late now but you would get a refund if you double paid so probably would've been worth it.

Similar thing happened to me with an S7.  I got them to waive the fee after a half dozen phone calls but the driver didn't see that in whatever system he could see so he insisted on payment to leave it.  I paid him and a month later they sent me a refund check.
