Run a Bitcoin node.
Does anyone have any info about whether Bitmain have a new miner in the works?

I understand the S9 is still the most efficient miner available from Bitmain, just wondering whether I should buy some or hold out for better tech.

Bitcoin FTW!
I'm confused as to why Bitmain is still marketing all their rebrands like the V9 as being 'new'. Don't think it's fooling anybody at this point, but I reckon the R4s will still sell well as more people are getting in crypto and want to mine quietly (too bad these things were extremely unreliable). I recall the R4s were selling for close to or more than $2000 at some point near Bitcoin's ATH.

Also, the miner does 8/8.7TH/s and uses .1W/GH, so power usage is around 800-870W. Nowhere near the 2Kw you were mentioning earlier. Any further discussion about the R4s should also happen in the link below instead of in the S9 thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1597639.840

Welcome R4 to Bitmain Family.
It seems they are announcing a new machine every week now Smiley

http://shop.bitmain.com/antminer_r4_silent_bitcoin_miner_for_home.htm?flag=overview

Marketed as a "silent" miner, to be used at home. From initial specs listed on Bitmain website, I could see 8th/s and 2600w (if I am reading correct). Do you think this could be a game changer? If not, I think we could finally have real home heaters (if not noisy) Smiley

It isnt new, the R4 is old AF, they just discontinued them really fast, they broke too much

If you are accumulating a LOT of S9's and you're beginning to wonder how you will be able to keep them cool this summer, here's an excellent means of keeping them cool.  Two pages of photos with description for each photo in this link:  https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/lets-share-ideas-of-ways-to-manage-heat-from-mining-in-a-home-or-warehouse-2865914

My dad will have some ASIC's running in here along with GPU miners.  The last 4 posts in that link are of my place and the 4th build to make room for more rigs with a power upgrade from 225 amps to 600 amps this summer.

Enjoy...

if you have free power and nobody has to listen it's awesome.

Even with free power you still have the cost of the money you put in place and your time along with any import fees and rental costs.

As a space heater then it works well at 9500 USD/BTC getting you a small profit of 0.04BTC over the course of 1.5 years of babysitting.

An estimated 0.04BTC over 1.5 years. Damn near nowhere certain.

Also out of curiosity because it's very difficult to read that spreadsheet, does that include the large chunk of money you'll get back when you go to sell and upgrade miners in the future or are you just for some reason assuming that it will be a piece of metal to throw in the garbage?

Great question.

Unfortunately I have not had a request for this. However I can add it.

Like selling and keeping your overhead low and perhaps using these as heating sources in place of conventional heaters.

The reality is you can depreciate the asset over time to get tax savings.

I don't know how accurate it would be because god knows what will happen a few years from now, but you could use the time since the S7 has been released and the percentage that its retail price on Bitmain vs. it's resale price on eBay has declined over that time span and factor that in. It's a lot of money that a lot of people don't consider when they calculate ROI.

S7 still selling for around 700$

In a country like Venezuela electricity is free, a s7 makes more than 100$ a month thats A LOT OF MONEY over there, minimum monthly wage is 5$ believe it or not. So yeah, there is still a market for old miners in some countries. I think in some UAE countries electricity is also free, but i doubt they see it as a business oportunity those guys are swiming in money

Thanks for all the comments. The problem with that is we don't have any BCH. We just wanted to deal in USD.

Hey, if you need $30 in BCH, I'd happily send it for you ASAP.

We ordered 10 S9's this week from Bitmain and paid in USD wire transfer. Now Bitmain comes back and says we shorted them $30 (we did not). To pay them this $30 will costs us even more in transfer fees than the $30. We offered to by more units and pay the $30 then, but now they are ignoring us.
Now we worry they will cancel the whole order and then we will lose out even more when they transfer the money back.

Has anyone had an experience like this with Bitmain and what was their solution?

They are dumping their entire stock of anything S9 related. I doubt very much they'll care about a few dollars.

They do, because they can.

Any good recommendations for BCH exchanges in the USA we could use in the future to buy from Bitmain?

As I know, in S3 and above this temperature limit can be switched off only. But if I needed it must reduce to 55-65 degrees C, is it possible?
Then I could turn off the fan and it would be quiet in rooms. It would be nice customizable.

Whenever I order I transfer a few extra dollars than asked for, even on top of fees for transferring money to China, to be sure all goes smoothly.

Bitmain is not Amazon who will hold your hand and give you a refund and tell you everything will be ok. Short them a couple dollars and your order worth tens of thousands is screwed up. Sending them a few extra dollars is a small price to pay to be sure all goes smoothly in my opinion.

I just finished dealing with this issue I had with a couple orders. Send them an email to support ASAP if you want the order to be paid as soon as possible. For each individual order they will give you individual BCH wallet addresses with corresponding BCH amounts to send funds to. They will use the exchange rate as it was at the time your wire went through. If you go under your orders and click on them they will show exactly what they received (they don't need to provide any proof of course lol). It is strange that they are coming up with this "extra $25 fee for each wire you send"... Before I had an order that was short $5USD and they let it slide and did not ask me for a BCH transfer.

Thanks for all the comments. The problem with that is we don't have any BCH. We just wanted to deal in USD.

I would really get cracking on setting up accounts with exchanges that allow quick deposits into... Don't know where you are but in Canada it takes weeks and weeks to get verified by any of the major exchanges that will permit you FIAT deposits and withdrawals.

Any that you would suggest?
