More than likely.
He is too young to retire this early and it's the wrong time to do it now that he finally proved his critics to be wrong about him. He embarrassed Taylor in his own way. It's spectacular. He hasn't got the biggest win, at least take that one more step to fight to the top like Prograis. There's Devin Haneys and Shakur whom he might be able to fight and make money. Never mind those bullies.

If it's all because of family problems like custody of his kid, the more he needs to fight. It's not about records anymore when it comes to family, it's about what you can bring to provide for your family.

It's kinda intriguing do we have a similar story like this winning the undisputed title by total domination and you are at the peak of your career then you announce your retirement, its unthinkable to just leave something that every boxer is coveting, he may have felt that he has a long personal battle ahead of him that he has to pick between his fight in the ring or his fight in the court so he chooses the latter.

But definitely, he can always come back he is talented he could be another Mayweather because they have the same style and speed.

^ We will see then, Teo Lopez is very young and obviously a lot of years from him to become a champion again or get another belt. So it's surprising to hear that he will retired after his huge win against Josh Taylor.

So let's see, again he might un-retire, maybe he will just have to fix everything up in his personal life and then when everything is straighten up, he can make a huge comeback.

This is one of the never expected turns of the event maybe he has some personal reasons which will gonna be revealed later and he should not be pressured to ask the real reasons for his retirement since he needs to have a real relaxing time with his family after that huge win against Taylor. Due to the good opportunity in the boxing industry, if his reasons for his retirement are not that serious, then I think he will come back and we will see him once again compete for another title in their weight division. Right now all he needs to do is use the time and spend it with his loved ones and families.

Yeah, it's very uncanny for Lopez to just throw in the towel and declare his retirement. He is a very competitive fighter, so competitive that he sometime blurted words that out of line, like in this fight, wherein he says that he will take Josh Taylor life in the ring.

And then when he completely dominated the fight and won it, suddenly he says that he is retiring. We've heard that he has personal reasons, but I doubt that this is the only reasons why he opted to retire this early. There could be more deeper reasons I guess that only him knows.

It looks like the rumors are all true that he is going to retire but I doubt it's permanent based on this article

Lopez has been battling complicated situations outside the ring, including turmoil with his family and a contentious divorce and custody battle. That may have been the main catalyst for his statements to reporters after his win.

This could be the factor that leads to his early retirement but we never knew he is too good to retire many will encourage him to go back to the ring because there are still a lot of challenges  and goal to complete and he still has a bright future.

This does not make sense, I reckon. The skeptical me thinks that he is trying to create a storyline for the fans to demand his return, which might give him more power to negotiate for more money.

Was there not a quick interview after the fight where he said that he was not being paid enough money? This certainly is a business decision. He will be in the ring if he gets paid the right amount hehe.

Isn't it undeniable that the boxing match was exceptionally thrilling? Lopez demonstrated that his skill is far from waning. However, allow me to introduce a note of skepticism here. Did you observe Taylor refraining from engaging in clinches? That is his forte. The departure from his usual strategy was a tad perplexing, wouldn't you agree? It seemed as if the referee was prohibiting Taylor from his tactical game as early as the first round, and this did not bode well for him.

The situation gave the impression that the referee was manipulating the match to favor Lopez. Lopez was thus relieved from the strenuous task of outmuscling and maintaining clinches to hinder Taylor's inside combat strategy. Hence, does the victory genuinely belong to Lopez, or did the referee's intercession shift the balance of the competition?

That's your observation but I don't see it that way, all I see is total domination they say in boxing it takes two to tango and style to make a fight, Lopez will not play Taylor's game he will impose his style and that's what actually happens.

In boxing, you are in big trouble if your opponent did not respect your power and that's what I saw, Taylor cannot hit him and Lopez hits him at will, in fact, he is punishing him.
Taylor took a lot of punishment he was frustrated going through the championship rounds.
I seldom see something like this a great champion taking too much punishment.

Based on the highlights of that fight: it was all Lopez, and the referee is not even doing anything
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTmgJ0CCfOs
No complaint from Taylor's camp everybody agreed that it was a total beating.

Good fight for Lopez and he surely did what he is supposed to do. And it just shows that style makes fight. Kambosos beat him soundly, even have him in the canvass, but Kambosos lost to Haney twice. Josh Taylor used to dominate this weight class with his counter but he is not effective against Lopez as he is beat to the punch. And even majority of us wrote-off Lopez, but he just shows tonight that he still has it.

Now Lopez is a 2 division champ, and it open a lot of opportunity for him. Let's see if Haney is going to move up in 140 lbs soonest and go and fight Lopez. Again, it's a clash of style and with that, it's going to be another great fight. Let Lopez though enjoy his win and the start of his reign as WBO champion.

wow, that's a very nice observation! but have you read any review of such kind of observation what you just stated here? some boxing analysts may have seen that if something of that tactic has been played out.
because a lot are just seeing that lopez performed well on this fight winning by upset over taylor. seems that lopez has still a lot of juice on this sports though.

It's unrealistic, he has no injury, he has no record to protect, and he is just building his legacy no experts will advise him to retire, it should be something personal we do not know what's happening in his personal life but it seems he wants all his effort and time to address his personal demon, and he doesn't want his personal struggle to interfere in his career.

For a boxer, the first to give up is the body I don't think his body is ready to retire, his body will want to be in the ring again, train and spar again, and the money and the prestige that goes with being a champion will call him out to fight again.

I'm sure he'll be back again after a year.

Well conditioned, confident with his speed, and didn't have to put his hands up as he also trust his tough chin. That was a spectacular performance from Teofimo Lopez. I mean I only watched the replay and already knew the results but I am still shocked whenever he evades the punches of Josh Taylor.
I think that takes out all the doubts on himself.
Maybe it's also ring rust for Josh Taylor, he ain't using his other hand that much, something that he must look up if ever he tried to fight again. Although I like what he said in the post-interview, "No excuses" the layoff has nothing to do with it.

So who's next? Teofimo Lopez didn't answer that yet. He said he ain't focus on that for now. But according to the news, he said something on his social media. "I might retire."
Different boxing analysts though are not believing it yet, this could be a promotional thing to increase the money that will come in when he fights again.

It looks like Teofimo Lopez step up his performance whenever he meet great boxer.  The way I see the fight, Lopez is so focused and be able to outwit and out tempo Taylor.  And Taylor just had a very bad performance and not utilizing his height and reach advantage. We all seen it that Teofimo Lopez is way smaller than Josh Taylor.  Taylor failed to establish his job that should had helped him to keep Lopez @ bay.

This is also what I noticed about Teo Lopez, he rises up on occasion whenever he is on a big stage just like last night. I thought that if Teo showed up last night and his performance would be just like that when he fought Martin, that could have been an easy fight for Taylor but Lopez was amazing on his counter punching which he was not known for, I mean he is a knockout artist and an aggressive fighter on the get-go but nevertheless, it was a good game plan by Team Lopez but I think his hold of these belts will be short-live.

Yes, I guess he really need to practice and overcome that mentality though, maybe it did good to him tonight, but what if he was upset in his last fight? then there wil be no chance for him to win this WBO belt?

Or maybe it was in the training as well, he has been is some personal issues in his fight against Taylor, divorced to be exact. But he overcome it and then beat Taylor and never allow Josh to make a comeback. I think in the power department, eventhough we can say that Lopez is the smaller guy here, but he has pop in his punch and hurt Taylor several times.

Despite all his personal problems, Teofimo managed to prevail in this fight. It was a very strong performance. I was disappointed in Taylor because it did not seem like he gave his best effort.

This was a great comeback for Teo after how bad he looked in his last fight. If he had lost many would question whether he should retire but now he has the possibility of massive paydays in his future.

For the record, Lopez has beaten two former undisputed and lineal champions and these are Lomachenko and Taylor, Lopez shows his true form it's the best Lopez I've seen after the Loma fight.

Lopez fought exceptionally well, securing a victory via unanimous decision, making a strong statement against the champion, Taylor. It was truly a thrilling fight where Lopez showcased his skills and proved many fans wrong. He delivered impressive combinations that Taylor likely did not anticipate, but ultimately, Taylor gracefully accepted his defeat. Congratulations to Teofimo Lopez for becoming the new champion.

His last two fights before this title fight are not really that good but he makes it up with this dominant performance, what I notice about Lopez's performance,  is he is great when he is facing top-level opponents.

A Haney fight is desirable and it could possibly happen we all know both fighters do not back down in any fight especially fights that involve titles, so we have a lot of great news coming out on who Lopez will fought and I'm sure it's going to be another top-level fighter.

I was kind of disappointed when the referee did not allow Josh to fight in clinches where he is superior. When the referee as early as round 1 warned Josh I already thought that he is in for a very difficult and uncomfortable night and that my bet will be lost too. Cheesy So I am not that sold out on Teofimo's win. The ref should've let Josh do his thing and if Teofimo hates the pace of the fight then he can clinch hard until Josh can't throw a punch and that is the time the ref will break them. The ref was there to protect Teofimo and it also saved the American a lot of his energy because he no longer spend it outmuscling and clinching in order to neutralize Josh's inside fighting.

Officially, Lopez is not only a 2 division champion but a 2-division lineal champion and that says a lot to his credit. Haney is most likely to move up. Haney was mad at Bob Arum and mentioned a match with WBC champion Regis Prograis of Matchroom. But after Lopez's victory, there are talks already about Haney being interested again to re-sign with Top Rank.

I think Top Rank just has a lot to offer when it comes to 135 and 140. Haney should he choose to defend his undisputed belts has the Loma rematch, Shakur, and even Navarette if the Mexican beats Valdez this August. At 140, there's Lopez, Ramirez, Barboza, or even Taylor should he opts to remain in the division. Haney though seems like a kid full of pride so he might decide to return to DAZN where can take on Prograis and maybe Kingry.

Now things are interesting now there are talks of a Ryan Garcia fight but the way Lopez boxes and if he could maintain this he will rule the light welterweight for many years

I don't think there should be a rematch but if there is a clause Taylor can activate that but it's not going to do him good, he needs two more fights the long layoff causes him this fight.

Very interesting version of Lopez that we have seen here, and it seems that he up his game whenever he will face a great champion, like Loma (although questionable that time because of Loma's shoulder), and Taylor tonight.

Taylor looks very amateurish in this fight though, it could be weight issues as there are members here who thought that he has problems with 140 lbs based on his last fight against Jack Catterall and for sure Jack might what to have a crack on Teo Lopez too in the future. 140 lbs seems to be huge with this big upset win by Teo and everyone will be jockeying for position to fight Lopez next.
