Unlike the younger days of Manny when he was still chasing money more than any other, right now it is probably just a balanced approach. It is more of money and safety and the prospect of facing a weaker opponent.

Safety seems not on his vocabulary because he is willing to fight any fighter, in fact, he challenged one of the best which is Crawford but his challenge was not accepted. Maybe these young champions are thinking of their safety as although Pacquiao is old but is only old on age or number.

In my insights Manny will fight any fighter if there's a good $ that he can possibly take home, election near to happen in Philippines so he might need big funds to help in his campaign. But I'm worried about his total preparedness on his fight if this one will proceed since election day is busy day for politicians and he might miss to condition his body to prepare on his upcoming fight.

We all know that Manny Pacquiao is a boxer more than a politician. If there is an incoming fight, he will surely be happy to focus on it 100% even if he is in the middle of his responsibilities as a politician or in the middle of the campaign.

I don't think Manny Pacquiao will fight any fighter. That is not the case anymore at the legend's current age. That is applicable during his peak but not now. It is very obvious the Pacquiao team will choose an easier opponent now that Manny is already slowing down.

I agree with you here. Also, with his status, he can choose who he wants to fight with.
It is not all about the money I believe, though of course it is still their camp's consideration.
But it is not the case that he will fight any fighter just for the sake of money.
He is pretty much settled for his retirement, the upcoming fights are just bonus for him.

Manny is the legend so everybody's expected to call him out. Fighting against him means a lot especially to younger fighters. Facing Manny Pacquiao is about fame, building up your boxing resume, money, honor, etc. Being in this situation, Manny is privileged to choose whoever he feels like fighting.

Unlike the younger days of Manny when he was still chasing money more than any other, right now it is probably just a balanced approach. It is more of money and safety and the prospect of facing a weaker opponent.

Well, some cherry picking, but yeah Pacquiao deserves the luxury on choosing who's he's fighting. Besides, It's a smart move for him to still earn even past his prime.
Crawford and Spenc might be too much for Pacquiao but I think he still has more than enough chance to beat these boxing superstars.
But the again, Pacquiao's ageing It would be bad for him to fight against these fighters who's still in their prime.

The way Manny boxed the last time he looks like he is still in his prime, but yeah he has the luxury to pick who will he face, he is staking a lot for every fight, he is legendary and the only 8 division world champion, something that every boxer would like to face and beat, everybody wants Manny Pacquiao, but you have to earn it before he gives you a chance.

Definitely, and at the stage of Manny's career now, he will mostly fight a boxer that would earn him a title and money as well, that's why he chooses Spence but it did not happen for some reason. Now, he is taking Mikey Garcia which cis also a decent fighter but not really the best, hence, we might still see more fights of Manny after this fight.

Pacquiao is a champion, both spence and Crawford are champions, where's the difference here? maybe the age only...
Honestly, even Pacquiao is old now, I would still back him to win against any of these boxers.

I heard that before, people say it's a bad idea to fight a young and big Thurman, but what's the outcome?
We can never underestimate the champ, let us not be concern of his health as he knows what the is doing.

This is the main reason why they probably pick Mikey as second option if the Terrence Crawford fight didn't materialized. Mikey is not a true welterweight and they have the same size so every advantage is on Pacman in this fight.

Although Pacquiao has slowed down as evident in the Thurman fight, but he can still throw some punches that will give him enough points to the eyes of the judges if the fight goes to distance.

You nailed it mate  Smiley.

This is some sort of cherry picking for Pacman but at this stage of his career, i think he deserve the luxury of choosing whom he wants to fight.

Though Crawford seems to lack the experience back he is definitely above Mikey Garcia in terms of talent and this is the main reason why Team Pacquiao chooses Mikey Garcia as he is more beatable than Crawford or Spence. He don't have to be at his best in fighting Mikey Garcia and still win the fight.

Meanwhile, it seems that the announcement could be made next week as another person close to Pacman himself have revealed something to the media.

Philippine boxing great Manny Pacquiao is in the "final stages" of talks for a bout against American star Mikey Garcia, an aide to the Filipino fighter said Thursday.

The date and venue for a Pacquiao-Garcia match-up could be announced as early as next week, Jayke Joson, special assistant to the former eight-weight world champion, told AFP.

Terrence Crawford was ready for the fight. But Pacquaio asked for an unreasonably high purse ($40 million instead of $10 million that was offered), and therefore the fight had to be called off. Pacquaio is no longer in his prime and the pandemic has impacted global economies in a negative way. At this point, asking for huge amounts as purse is not going to work. I am afraid that the same issue will persist during the negotiations for this fight as well. Mikey has already stated that he is interested in fighting Pacquaio. Now the main question is about the latter's availability.
How come that it is Unreasonably ? and since when that Manny Pacquiao becomes not on His prime? are you out of the News? Manny is still one of the most awaited Boxer these days , His Fight is still looking forward from boxing community so Don't say that he had already lost His prime because He is still the Hottest boxer and People are still waiting for His Final Fight before retirement that's why all His fight are being looking forward because of of those might be His last.
I agree with that, beating Thurman was a big statement that tells people Manny does not get old, he beat young champions which are on the level of Crawford and Spence Jr., so he can fight any of these two and win. The era of Spence and Crawford now is not so exciting compared to the time when Manny was still younger since we can find real warriors during his time.

IMO, the real warriors in boxing are Filipinos and Mexicans, they don't duck anyone, they fight and give their best to entertain the crowd.

I think Pacquiao has every right to ask for the a high purse, after all he is also a champion and I would say that still a cow cash at this stage of his career, it could be bluff or something, but still he is not overpricing himself. Yes, I agree that the pandemic has really affected sporting events, but I think many are still interested to watch him fight.

Let's wait for the official announcement, I believed this is a done deal already, (his fight with Mikey).

@Dave1. Agreed. Pacman earned $10 million in his fight versus Keith Thruman. This fight will certainly be another easily earned $10 million or more for Pacman. Mikey Garcia is a bigger boxing star than Thurman, I reckon.

I'm a fan od pacquaio but for stating his ambitioun I'm so dismay about what he think right now.

We have the same take, politics is not for him, he only won because of his popularity but in terms of knowledge, for me, he is not yet qualified, he needs to learn more. What he promises is to destroy the corruption, I guess Presidency has more to tackle, not only that, and I am not confident in his capacity.

He said in an interview, if he is anointed by God, he will become the President, it could be true, but being a religious person and into politics handling the Philippines with different religions, I guess he might have a problem with how he will balance it.

I like Pacman, however, being a religious person and being in politics in the same time is a clue that someone is a trickster. You reckon he is a clean politician?

I any case, Mikey Garcia is the perfect opponent for Pacman in his older age. They are both the same size and Mikey is not on a similar level of Errol Spence and Terrence Crawford.

i dont think you know better pacquiao. afaik, he graduated with bachelor's degree in polsci and other short term courses. though it comes late in his life to get proper education, at least he found the time to improve that aspect in his life. now, when it comes to leadership, it depends on the will of the person. most highly educated leaders can't even make a dent in history. so what am trying to convey here is, every person has their chance to realize their goals in life. now it is up to him how he will put that into action.
now going back to the fight, curious what odds will the bookies give to this fight? but pacquiao will be the favourite here

I don't think this upcoming fight will be his last one.
Because if there are offers that are too good on the table, he may want to fight again.
He admitted that he really does love boxing, so I think, sometimes he is just fighting for the love of it and not really the money that he can get from it.
He knows his body more than anyone else, so retiring options will really be up to him.

Granting that if he wants to fight after he wins in the next election, he'll probably run as vice president, imagine a vice president of one country fighting in the ring, I don't think his constituents will want him to fight he is the second powerful man in the Philippines, even if he wants to, his position will not let him, he should choose between fighting and serving his country, you cannot serve two masters.

On the contrary, if he run for Vice-President, I think he will have less task than compare to a Senator. Philippine politics is different though, and I would say that a VP is not that powerful so say the least.

And Manny has been doing this for years, boxing and then politics, so I don't see any problem if he is ever to be elected as public official again, he can manage his time. And with that, I highly doubt that he will retire if even he win in the next election. But probably he will have his last fight, either Crawford or Spence.

There's a lot of difference between sitting on on senatorial set and presidential since in lower office he can leave and focus his fight he do this for so many times and he is the lowest among all senators on absences, While in presidency you will take all charge in every corner in his country so this plan is huge burden to him, I'm a fan od pacquaio but for stating his ambitioun I'm so dismay about what he think right now.
