he might proved that height doesn't matter in boxing again.

If that height didn't use properly, then it's useless. Still, weight and speed play a big role over height. There are lots of times when the taller ones struggle to keep up with the fight because their opponent is quick and versatile. I don't mean that Vargas will be like that but if Magsayo founds a way to box him at most rounds, the latter can score more points in each round while slowly crashing Vargas' defense.

Regardless if Magsayo will win via KO or Decision, a win is a win and I will never say that I'm not satisfied with his performance.

If Magsayo won via Decision especially if it's clear that he really won the match, that's a deserving win with no question.

can he throw a ko punch on vargas?

He should and I'm looking forward to that. That KO win will give Magsayo an appreciation to the boxing community.

I just found it unfair that even he is winning, people like a KO win to get the respect he get. Since PH community used to see KO win from Pacquiao, our other boxers are expected to do the same way.

A good odds for a champion. Where can we see odds of an champion at over 1.8? Placing a bet for Magsayo is worth the risks.

I think Magsayo will go for a KO, he has the power to do that so yeah, if given the chance and if he see the perfect opportunity to might throw a power left that will level Vargas in the canvass for good.

The odd is good for him because Vargas is not that far behind, so still a good bet at ML although the best time is when the odds went out early with Magsayo as underdog at 2.x. (and I thought that he will remain the underdog, but Vargas leads quickly evaporate).

Magsayo for KO, I think that's the best bet, or if we are not satisfied with Magsayo's performance in the past, then you can go for Vargas winning via decision as I don't see he could hurt Magsayo here. The odds are very competitive, so this fight might be a close fight, or if we see a KO, it should be in the later rounds.

Yes, it will be really impressive if he goes and win by KO to silence all his doubters and critics specially them questioning on how he won against Gary. I'm one of those who says that Mark should win convincingly and then raise the flag of the Philippines again. Vargas has all the advantage over him because he is tall, but I will give Mark the power because he really has that in possession in his arsenal and that power landed on Vargas, he might proved that height doesn't matter in boxing again.

Same here, his KO ratio is actually decent so a victory by KO is totally possible with Magsayo especially now that he's learning a thing or two from coach Freddie Roach, he just needs to find that right pace and timing to extend his power left to make it happen. I expect a close bout in the early rounds so yeah, KO will probably happen somwhere from 6th - 10th round.

Yes, it's possible to happen. Magsayo is growing and improving while he progresses.

He is learning from every of his win which makes his confidence boost more. Under Freddie Roach's assistance, he is turning Magsayo into a much better fighter as they continue to move forward. Although Vargas is a good challenger, Magsayo can surely outmatch him.

A knockout win is what I'm looking forward to Magsayo to make his name become popular more.

I'm okay with that already because Magsayo has a good KO rate so if he wins, it will likely be a KO.

He has 24 wins and 16 of that from KO, which means his KO rate is 67%

He knows that an impressive win will bring him big fights in the future, so if he wants to be more successful in boxing, he has to win this one.

The odds now out, at least on Stake.com. I thought odds will be released 1-2 days before the fight but it's early as expected.

Perhaps the bookies have listen to us that's why they released the odds this early.

The odds is close. Not even a slight but really close. We can't say who's the Favorite or Underdog.

This is a rare moment where a Champion do have a close odds with his Challenger. It's like Magsayo is being put as an underrated here. I'm now aggressively hoping that Magsayo will pull a win here to recognized as one of the best.

That is good though, but it seems that there are a lot of supporters here for Mark Magsayo. Yes, I would say he is underrated, 0 defeat beat Russell Jr. (although injured), becomes a champion but then listed as the underdog in the beginning. If he wins by knockout, or put a clinic against a tall Vargas, for sure he will get the recognition he deserves.

they maybe underestimating magsayo here as his name is not yet very popular among boxing fans. this is good if you want to bet on him. at least you're not getting like 1.1 or 1.2x odds. 1.8-1.9x is already a good one if he will pull it off. magsayo has a lot of supporters here because of the filipino community.
so let's see how he will perform inside the ring. can he throw a ko punch on vargas?

The bookmakers still have the odds in favor of Mark Magsayo, but among other things, he also has a huge incentive to take the top line of the rating, besides, recently he spent more fights in the ring than Rey Vargas, but at the same time he was in the ring for less time. But these are statistics, and we will soon see how the fight in Texas will turn out.

The last time I checked the odds, I think the other day,Magsayo is the slight favorite but the term "slight" shouldn't be used because it's really close.

When I checked it first , around @1.8 by Magsayo and @1.9 by Vargas. Can we still called it as having a slight favorite or underdog?

Like how Bookies considered this fight as close. It just tells us that we can expect a close fight which most fans like.

He is a slight favorite but that doesn't mean he will easily win the fight.

The opening give Vargas the favorite to win the fight, and there's a significant movement which make Magsayo the slight favorite nwo.
In terms of experience, Vargas has more fights than Magsayo as Vargas has 35 fights with 22 KO and IMO it will be one of the toughest fight for Magsayo.

It's very useful because it's our basis in making a decision on which fighter to back, unless we follow our emotion and we just bet on our favorite fighter to win.

Definitely! Bookies will take any opportunity that will earn them extra money.  Grin  I wonder what will the be odds for Magsayo winning by KO and vice versa.
It's not yet listed mate, but it seems the odds have stabled a bit, Magsayo becoming the slight favorite now. I would assume that the  odds for a KO win for him might be the same or slight higher than a ML.

And it's up to the hands of Magsayo now, becoming the betting favorite equates to him bettors putting fate on his skills and power. So still have a week to go, and maybe at the weigh-in we will see how well train and prepared he is. A body shot might be a good strategy because Vargas is taller.

Yeah, I check the odds so there's no more movement, just interesting that once Magsayo becomes the favorite, there is little to no movement at all, but as I have said, I'm not surprised that Magsayo is now the favorite.

Good point, we never discusses how he can work Vargas body to soften him up. So he shouldn't head hunt in the beginning, just target the body and see how Vargas will react in the middle of the rounds and if the knockout presents itself because Vargas has weaken because of those body shots then he can go for it.

Mark Magsayo should just get used to it because there will be always some people who will doubt his skills especially now that he's still trying to make a legacy to his name in this industry. He should just focus himself with his trainings to defeat Vargas with an impressive ending and a knockout will definitely shut those who doubts at him, maybe not for good but at least he will show his talent once again.

I agree, getting used to it is the best thing but the good thing with boxing is that he can prove himself on the spot.  Magsayo doesn't need to explain anything, he just needs to let his punches do the talking.  Anyway, it looks like fans are pouring their money on Magsayo now.  It isn't a surprise to see a change of odds favoritism.  I think some people who doubted him before had changed of hearts.

While the fight is nearing, we will expect for more available options, not just the actual odds between the two but additional ways of betting for this upcoming fight.

I trust him now because I like the fact that he is listed as an underdog in this fight, looks like a little insult on him since he is supposed to be the favorite as a champion. Well, looks like bookies have listened to bettors or some bettors are pounding Magsayo that's why there are some odds movement.

Odds now are as follows.

magsayo 1.88
Vargas 1.83.

That was the odds probably many see Vargas will win the game.  Since Vargas's performance in his previous weight class is exemplary having a record of 35 - 0 with 22 KO in his arsenal. Having more fight experience than Magsayo who has 24 - 0 with 16 KO, many sports fan thinks that Vargas has the upper hand between the two boxers.  Regardless, this is a test for Magsayo and I also hope that he will prove himself to those who doubt him being the champion.

Exactly, it's a big fight for Magsayo but if he could prove by winning the fight convincingly, people will not doubt him anymore. He is a champion for a reason, though there are fights that we don't fully believe he won but he is the champion now so we have to respect him. I hope Magsayo would really give a good fight and finish Vargas early in this fight.

It used to be Magsayo as the underdog, now it is Vargas.  Looks like there they observed some huge development in Magsayo's camp.  Or probably they are influenced by the last fight of Inoue where the older fighter got floored in a very early round.  So I think, many got the idea that it is possible for the younger and stronger fighter Magsayo to do the same thing.
Or maybe also bookies being moved by how the fans start throwing their money, though I also see your point, Magsayo is now the favorite in some slight difference and a good catch still for late bettors, @ 1.86 or can be more by using the boost is still a better odd for this pinoy champ he will need to defend his title and continue to stay being a champ.

So that's how quickly the odds are changing in this fight. And I'm thinking there could be changes here, maybe Magsayo will become the favorite after all as money are going to pour on his side.

But then again, let's look for more betting options as others suggested, specially Magssayo by KO or what rounds is he going to get the KO.

Update: Magsayo - 1.90, Vargas - 1.80

As I have predicted, Mark is now the favorite in this fight,

from Stake.com

So again, I'm not surprised, smart money should be on the side of Magsayo here. And I think he will retain his favorite status leading up to the fight night. I doubt that there will be changes, on the contrary, Mark could end up in the 1.7x odd as the favorite and then Vargas 1.9x underdog.
