Shakur will fight smart in the early rounds until he measures his distance and reach. De Los Santos who is not used to fighting long rounds will tire out and gets stopped.

It should be the right thing to do because he can't relax against a knockout artist. As usual, it's expected that he will use his quickness to tire De Los Santos. Eventually, De Los Santos will be frustrated if he cannot land clean shots on Shakur.

Most KO artists rely so much on their power, but when they face a boxer who knows how to use their quickness and has a high IQ in the ring, they struggle, just like Mayweather did against his opponents. Since Shakur is a big fan of Mayweather, we will likely see a fight that focuses more on technical movements rather than being a brawl.

Also, it seems like Shakur's chin is not weak. But we'll see if this division's power punchers can finally shake Shakur. I didn't know Shakur idolized Floyd but it's possible since they are both technical fighters. One thing is sure, Shakur hurt Floyd's feelings after personally attending the Olympics. Floyd was there to support him and at the same time trying to personally convince him to sign with Mayweather Promotions but the kid went with Top Rank. Cheesy

Finally, Shakur is getting his shot to become a 3-division world champion. It would've been better if he is facing Martin. But it is what it is. Edwin De Los Santos is next in the WBC ranking. We'll see if Shakur can take power punches in this new division.

This might be too early for De Los Santos' career. He is already used to fighting against fellow prospects but never this level of opposition. Shakur will fight smart in the early rounds until he measures his distance and reach. De Los Santos who is not used to fighting long rounds will tire out and gets stopped.

^ So you think Shakur is going to win the fight? I am not trying to say this in any kind of patronizing way. I am just honestly asking. Because I actually thought that his opponent De Los Santos had a chance to win this fight. I know Shakur is actually the better fighter going into this fight. I am not going to debate with anyone about that. Because that is definitely the truth. But at the same time, I do not think that this fight is going to be one-sided or anything like that. Because I think in this fight, de Los Santos is actually going to try to conserve his energy and only go aggressive when he surely has a chance of landing clean shots.

I understand your point, but you have to look not on Shakur but his opponents. Have you heard of De Los Santos name though before this fight? I will honestly say that I never heard his name prior to this fight. And although he has a good record and we can't take that away from him. But as we have said, Shakur talent is above the rest of this division, he is not a champion yet, but it seems that the division has been shaken when Shakur goes up in weight class. Devin Haney became a champion in recess? LOL, goes up at 140 lbs and avoid Stevenson at all cost. And then supposedly Frank Martin, the next hype at this weight class suddenly back up on his words and doesn't want any of Shakur. And the other champion in WBA in Gervonta Davis, is quiet, we don't even hear Davis talking about Shakur to be his next opponent, or even mentioning Stevenson's name in his interviews.

And let's not forget when Kambosos and Lomachenko also said no to Shakur. Although I can understand Loma's point. The guy is likely to retire anytime soon and his dream of becoming undisputed is near to becoming impossible since Haney is expected to vacate all 4 belts which also means he needs to fight the champions 1 by 1 and consider the struggle to negotiate fighters that are signed outside of ESPN. A rematch is also unlikely after Haney barely escaped after getting saved by the judges. So he might as well just take the biggest money fight available before retiring.

I think anyone can answer this, and the majority would agree that Stevenson will win. Of course, every opponent of Shakur has a good game plan until they taste Stevenson's punches and get tired chasing him. Even bookies would agree; as of now, the current betting odds suggest that Stevenson will win with an 80% to 90% probability.

True. And betting odds aren't the same with celebrities and the media that can talk and analyze but without something at risk. And also it is very hard to stop being an aggressor against Shakur in order to conserve energy. De Los Santos has to train hard and be ready to be the aggressor for the whole 12 rounds. You don't wait because Shakur is too smart for that. And you don't let Shakur become the hunter because of his quick hand speed and footwork. Shakur will win by KO/TKO if De Los Santos allows Shakur to become the aggressor. De Los Santos has to show Shakur that he is there to knock him out from round 1 to 12. He needs to make Shakur retreat and mentally impose that he is the aggressor because he carries the harder punch.

Voted for Shakur Stevenson to win via decision here.

I think Shakur would be very careful not to be hit by that one shot that would send him to the canvas as this De Los Santos packs a punch as almost all of his opponents were KOed by him, 14 KO out of 16 wins, that's amazing though that came from less popular opponents but still, he needs to be careful.

Of course, with Shakur's ring IQ, he will have a good time to show his defense agains Delos Santos and we might say that he will look amateurish against Stevenson here. But we will give credit to Delos Santos for accepting this fight as a replacement for Frank Martin.

And to add to that, Shakur calls Frank Martin a bitch, but hopefully they can still fight in the future because there are animosity already and it could grew up in years as the might become the face of 135 lbs.

De Los Santos views this as an opportunity, and why wouldn't he accept it if he believes in himself? We've seen similar scenarios, like Ugas vs. Pacquiao, where Ugas was a replacement and won the fight. There are many possibilities in such situations, and one should never underestimate a hungry fighter eager to reach the top. Shakur needs to be cautious here because, while De Los Santos may not be widely known, his record shows a high KO ratio.

Of course, boxers love to take this kind of opportunity as well, but there are boxers who blatantly will go away and not sign the contract because of the money involved. But with the likes of De Los Santos, who is looking for every opportunity to get into the picture in this division. Although its very hard fight for him as he will be fighting the best version of Stevenson as Shakur is hitting is absolute prime years and that's why there are boxers that are avoiding him and just hiding for the excuse that there is not enough money for them to fight him.

Possible, but we shouldn't compare fighters though. In this case, we love to see how De Los Santos will perform against Shakur. I mean, there are reports that it seems everyone doesn't want to have any of Stevenson, but at least De Los Santos is willing to go even if he is rank way below the top 5 if I'm not mistaken.

And as you have said, this is a great opportunity, and lets say he lost the fight, but he shows the world that he is not ducking everyone, not Shakur or even the best of 135 lbs fighters.

Few boxers nowadays are willing to face opponents as long as they meet the weight requirements. Most of them have become more strategic, understanding that a loss can significantly hinder their future goals. They carefully choose their opponents. In Martin's case, he likely realizes that his chances against Shakur are very slim. He cannot afford to take that gamble, so perhaps he understands that it's not yet the right time. He doesn't want his career to end prematurely.

It is obvious that they will fight opponent that they have more chance of winning that the one that may give them a loss.  It is one way of preserving their records and enhancing their boxing career.  This kind of strategy had been practiced ever seen reason why we rarely see fights between hot boxers on their prime.  With a good records, boxers are able to get a higher payout while their promoters are able to seal a higher paying deals.  They can even demand things like having a better cut on the pot money.

Those who are the under rated are then forced to face more superior opponent because they have to just like in this fight.  De Los Santos has to accept the fight in order to make a name for himself but the risk of losing is too obvious.  He isn't the opponent for Stevenson, many of us will agree but for DLS to step up his career he needs this fight badly.

Shakur is a top-level which many had turned down fighting him, even Loma and Isaac Cruz but I think DLS can handle him. Though Santos can hurt with just jabs, he hasn't fought someone with skills like Shakur.

De Los Santos is younger with 1 loss, so losing another isn't as frightening as the first for him. He's got his run though but Shakur could stop him from picking up while he is still trying to climb up.
Its too unprofessional for some backer to back-out especially if there’s already a schedule of the fight, well if they are afraid of Shakur then better not to accept the offer in the place this. Anyway, this is still a good replacement and yes De Los Santos can bring a good fight with Shakur, there might be problem with his strategy of fighting, there’s still time to prepare though. Still looking for Shakur here to win the match, he’s really a good fighter.

It's all verbal if I'm not mistaken, when it was announced that a Martin vs Shakur was reach, there is no sign agreement yet, but just say Yes without any contract.
I'm not defending Martin, but there are boxers as well who ducked and for sure it will put a stigma on them, just like what Martin name is right now, synonyms of avoiding or ducking Shakur.

They have their reasons, mostly ducking and afraid of losing but there is more to it. Or there's the discussion about the cut.  Champs are also picking who to fight so it's pretty common to refuse if they are not mandated. Martin is a better contender than Santos imo. It's a wonder he hasn't gotten a belt yet.

For the sake of providing entertainment at his expense, just give a salute to Santos and his brave soul. This is going to be a dominated fight showing off the agility of Shakur.

This is a good fight for DLS to establish his legacy.  If he win this fight his boxing career will greatly improve though I think that he needs a lot of improvement especially his defense when fighting Stevenson.

Yeah, if the match ended up as a lose for De los Santos, it is not his first time.  And I think losing a fight sometimes gives a good result in the future.  With losses they are able to study and strategy carefully and may discovers flaws of the training that can be fixed in the later fight.

So after Frank Martin has back out of the supposedly fight with Shakur Stevenson. Team Stevenson was able to secure another fighter in the division, ranked 5th in Edwin De Los Santos.

I think Edwin though is good and can give Shakur a good test at lightweight.

Here are highlights of Edwin and be the judge if he can compete with Shakur or not, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3kbEPhdUkY

Hopefully there will be no cancellations.

This De Los Santos looks good on paper I checked all his opponents and these are cherry-picked and easy fights so they can increase his knockout percentage but overall he brings nothing to the table for the boxing community to think that Shakur will be challenged.
Shakur is ripe to fight top-rated fighters in his division and in other weight classes Haney, Tank, or even Ryan Garcia will have a hard time figuring out how to beat Shakur.
The question in this fight is not if Shakur will win by knockout or decision, but rather in what round will Shakur knock out De Los Santos?
I'd like to believe many boxers are ducking Shakur with the many cancellations.

If I'm not mistaken, even Tank Davis doesn't mentioned Shakur as his possible opponents.
Shakur said that he respects Loma, offered him the biggest money so far, but they declined him.
And we all know how Frank Martin says yes, but then wanted a 50-50 split in purse which is not going to be given to him.
And so the only options is Delos Santos for know for Shakur as the top boxers all said no to win.
Maybe this fight will not go to distance as you have said, could be less than 10 rounds?

Well, one thing is for sure, both boxers wanted the vacant belt even if it's just an interim title for the meantime but that is still the same because if Haney will continue his journey at 140 then that means that whoever wins this bout, he will be a regular champion after Haney will be stripped.

Correct, the winner might be relegated to full status by the WBC if Haney will be stripped because he doesn't want to defend or campaign at 140 lbs.
It could be a duck for Haney as clearly as him and Shakur has been going on in social media prior to the announcement of Shakur's fight, (including the failed Frank Martin fight).

But I got to say though, Shakur really got an upper hand because his IQ is different and with experience, I know he can handle Santos. Shakur wouldn't be feared at 135 by Loma, Isaac and even Haney if he's not even that hard to fight but he is really hard to crack that is why those guys chose to avoid him rather than face an imminent embarrassment.

And that is one point that Devin Haney's father said in one video.
Shakur is above his son, although Devin is getting closer as he won championship, he still thinks that Shakur might overcome his son, hence they got up to 140 lbs and chase Regis for his belt.

I don't think that could be is the right term for it because Devin Haney indeed ducked Shakur Stevenson in a mandatory fight and just like what you said, even his own father admired Shakur's talent because he know that he is a serious boxer that can give his son's first defeat in his career and worse, replaced being the unified champion. We may not see how will the fight go but I think we can already assume what would happen.
