Actually, according to my desktop widget, we're at 760$. Christmas is in 22 days. That would be a rise of 240$ in 22 days, so a rate of about 11$ a day. A puntual rise of 11$ is not an awesome victory, but rising for 22 consecutive days at a rate of 11$ a day is clearly not sustainable.

Let's assume it will : since we're in the speculation board, I'll give you my speculation on what might happen then. I see only thing, a crash. Be realistic ! Such a rise will in a sure manner get quickly compensated by a significant rise that will probably make us get back to the level of 600$. Some people are hoping for such a Christmas gift, but for me it isn't, since you would have a very tight timespan to sell and profit from it. Most common people would of course just enjoy it and consider that rise as something that will last, and they will end losing money as most could in the rise sell to avoid losing too much. Most clever people would of course keep them because they don't care about the fiat price of a bitcoin.

I actually consider ourselves pretty lucky, as the value of a bitcoin near doubled in a just a year, while I've been seeing it constant when I joined. We better have a slow and constant rise than great spikes that will make people avoid Bitcoin due to its volatility that seems to have calmed down a bit that late times. Think about it before asking a 1000$ Bitcoin to Santa Claus Wink !

I don't even know that there is a reason for Bitcoin to hit $800 honestly.
Unless the situation in India is bringing in that many new users, this is just a bubble.
No new services, still having confirmation issues, people still arguing over segwit.
There is actually zero good news about Bitcoin right now.

But was there any reason for Bitcoin to hit $700 before? Methinks, it is impossible to say with certainty in regard to any price level. But we could still speculate that Bitcoin adoption increases and that stimulates prices to grow. If it is really so, the prices should be slowly rising over time. But isn't that what we have seen recently? The price has been moving inside the range for quite some time now, and maybe it's time to move higher?

I see bitcoin price climbing while most of the altcoins are falling.
I suppose money flows from altcoin to bitcoin.
Maybe because ETH as number two in market capitalization went down so hard the last few days, people are losing trust into altcoins in general.

Cant wait to see it. We already reached once again the highest price this year and 1000 price this christnas is possible. If bitcoin can get through the 800$ ,1000$ in price is real

If bitcoin can get through 800 $ then 900 $ will be real wish, and 1000 reality. Yes, one step at the time I also think that is good rise and logical sequence of upcoming events.
I also would like to see that famous 1000$, too much talking about it wake up wish in each of us.

That would be definitely something hard to achieve in three weeks as SegWit will probably won't be activated by then and I don't see anything else that could boost the price at the moment other then developing bitcoin more.

Will we find this gift under our tree?

There are still 23 days remaining before that special occasion and I don't know if it is still possible that it will be able to reach $1,000 or else it will be possible to reach $800 only. But still I don't want to get discouraged and dismayed with this, let's just hope so.

Well, it cant reach a $1000 this year. Im starting to save my bitcoins for that prize and earn real money. Next year probably, it might reach $900 going to $1000. It is a good prize for users of bitcoin and I hope not only the users and the Bitcoin's prize will go up. But also the stores that accept bitcoin will do.

The prices in Indian exchanges have already crossed the thousand dollar mark because of the demonetization of currency and now the price of bitcoin has jumped from 750 dollars to 775 dollars and i am sure it will cross the 800 dollar mark in a week or so and you would see some sell off,i wonder the issues in India will make some changes in the price world wide too

2017 maybe 2018 for sure

I changed my mind recently, how time passed higher chances that price will get to 1000 $ are for next year then end for this year. As a gambler I calculate odds all the time, and I'm not some proud prick I know to admit when I was wrong.
In case price get to 1000 $ before new year I will be pleasantly surprised.

I think 1000 dollar is a litte bit to high for this Christmas. Maybe next year with Christmas that looks very possible for me. For this year i think we will easyly pass the 800 dollar. I have just seen on C-CEX they sell now at 783 dollar. Not bad way we took the last weeks.
800 value is much more possibility to be happen than 1k value before christmas and i think 1k value will not happen this year instead this following year we can see that the price will touch in 1k value..  unless if there is another good news before christmass that can push the price of bitcoin until 1k value..

Don't think so. I think if we happen to hit the $800 price level that we have done an amazing job this year. I really can't see it settle or reach anywhere near the $900 levels (let alone reach $1000). Every time the price is going up in a decent manner people seem to have unrealistically high expectations. I prefer the price to go up slowly to $1000 where we reach it later in 2017 or maybe even 2018. This year comes way too soon.
I think your estimations are quite realistic and that is the way it should go if it is to keep any of it's growth in the last day. Steady and then wait.

I don't think, because it means a +40% from the actual price so far, it's a really big value.
Actually in these days we see the best capitalization of the whole market, so we are now in a peek!
But probably we can see a 800$-900$ value under the Christmas tree!

I'd be happy to be stable over $800 by Xmas.

A real gift would be to reach $930USD which would be a new CAD ATH.
I would really like it to be able to stay stable because everytime it has risen this fast in the past it comes down just as much as it rose to such levels.
So good luck to everybody that is predicting that this will be the new high for other currencies.

I wasn't predicting a new ATH. I was saying it would be a real gift.

My "prediction" if you want to call it that, was for $800.

Just to get things into perspective:

"Bear" in mind that this is Bitstamp, aka Bearstamp, traditionally low-ball.

The price is rising fast these days, but we should remember that Bitcoin was moving sideways in the 725-750 range for almost a month now. Yes, it has risen a few percent during the last few days, but there is nothing extraordinary in such movements. With many other assets, prices often change in a similar way. First, they consolidate at some level, then make a quick jump to the next level. Nothing to worry about.
