I tried trading there a few months ago (you can read my experiences in full here). I had been trading doges before and right after the hack, and what I saw last time can't be called trading by any means. The order-books are literally frozen, and I don't think that with other coins it is substantially different (I looked at a few other coins as well). Some trading volume may be coming from the BTY-CNY section (if they are allowed to trade fiat at all), but I didn't check that. At any rate, they are nowhere near 300 BTC of daily trading volume

I didn't know that their trading volume can be manipulated

You can easily check it through a bot

Personally, I drew such a conclusion looking at the order-books which are scarcely moving, I'd been trading, or rather trying to trade there for a few hours (dogecoins specifically), and I saw only a few small trades. But they have a pretty decent and thought out api (in fact, the only exchange employing asynchronous api among those which I tested myself) which allows to track trades in real time (apart from many other things), so if you are really interested in finding this out, you could write a simple bot which would count the exact value of trading volume at Bter

No, I'm not familiar with bots and if you have any I would be happy to experiment with it and see also other exchanges.
Since you have made this test, what is the difference from the real trading daily volume?

No, I didn't run this test. As I said, I just looked at their order-books of major coins (doges, lites, nxt, maybe a few others) and arrived at a conclusion that their reported trading volumes are mostly bogus. In any case, I don't trade there any more, so I'm not really interested in finding out whether my assumption is true or not. It is simply impossible to trade there in any meaningful way, that's all...

So this exchange is pretty much done with

The daily exchanged volume is around 300 BTC which is not low, * 0.2% = 0.6BTC on fees daily.
They don't want to pay us because if they wanted they could pay us on small amounts.
About the 1% bonus I have written a post last year which is pure stealing money from their users.

I don't think there is one person that has been around for more than a week that believes this.

What exactly do you mean?

Their trading volumes are fake

I've been paid back 0.0112 BTC of a total 0.1150 BTC loss. As far as I can remember, there's only been one payment, and it would have been more than a year ago.

So they've started paying back, but very very slowly. Sad

Looks to me like they made one small payment in hopes it would increase volume and when it didn't they just stopped and left the site up with no support or oversight. The real scam is the fake volume that lures people in and from what I read the high withdrawel cost when those ppeople find out they cannot trade

The withdrawal fee for Bitcoin (and Litecoin as well if I'm correct) remains the same as before the hack and equals 100k satoshi. In respect to other coins, they are now giving 1% bonus on deposits (at least for dogecoins). It doesn't matter whether your trades were profitable or not, they are still taking away the same percentage on withdrawals of these coins. I don't quite understand the logic behind this novelty, but I can say with certainty that it didn't help them. It could make sense for arbitrage if there were active trading at this exchange...

But since there is no active trading by any meaningful measure, it doesn't really matter

Bter was hacked in February, 2015, so it is almost two years already

Sounds scammy to me

They seem to be hoping that folks will forget eventually about their losses at Bter

Even though such attitude is despicable, we should not forget that they didn't socialize the losses like what Bitfinex did, i.e. they didn't take the funds of those who hadn't been affected by the hack. For example, I didn't have bitcoins at Bter, I bought some doges and had them returned in their entirety in about three weeks after the hack. In this way, they are not as scammy as other exchanges that went the path of socializing losses (Bitfinex, Poloniex). I don't know what Bitstamp did when they got hacked in the past

Any news from bter hacking? They give back some coins?
A couple of months (October 18, 2016) are passed and no one update the topic  Cry
Is There a scam thread? Maybe you guys that are getting hosed should start one if not.

I check my balance there at least once a week to see if they have changed it but still the same balance.
It has been a year or more now and they are not responding nor giving bank the funds they stole from us.
