Im not losing hope when it comes to altcoins hence I believe major coins are still worth investing, you just have to conduct your own research to know if the particular coin is worth investing or not.
Just because we experience long bearish trend for alts doesnt mean it cant recover back anymore. If the coins has potential no matter how long it takes it will bounce back once alts season started. So if believe in alts, you will invest despite of the bad news circulating around for altcoins.

It is also important to know those supporting a project and analyze the product with its liquidity. I was surprised to see some absent project on the CMC and coingecko. It must have started with exchange delist before removal from the marketcap, coins like ICONOMI, Verisatum etc. they were on the top 100 coin on the marketcap for many months. So high marketcap does not mean anything especially for new projects.

a slightly wrong assumption in my opinion if only associated with loss of value in just a few years.
the main requirement for an asset is to always move in a tiered volume ratio. This can't be considered bad even if altcoin touches ATL again, the most important thing is that the circulation of transactions is always consolidating. All altcoins experience the same thing only because dominance is currently held by bitcoin, altcoin will have its own time in the next few opportunities.

I do not know where you heard about major altcoins losing value, All crypto currency tokens has dropped in value, and doing remarkably well considering that we are in the bearish run.
But then, when you consider tokes such as litecoin, mixin etc, then i would say altcoins are doing great, as a trader, all you need to do is figure out an investment strategy that works well with your choices and emotions.

In my opinion, it's good if you want to invest using the highest altcoin on the crypto market for the long term, some of which are listed in the top 10 on the market. in the top 10 such as ETH, EOS, bnb & LTC are altcoins that have the potential for investment and also have many users.

I think major altcoin still have good chance to grow again and maybe make new ATH. You should have to believe in crypto future before investing in it and altcoins are really important in crypto future. So i think major altcoins will grow really strong, but you must have to patient for biggest profit.

Conversely, top altcoins are the ideal choice for long-term investment. Think like this, the good one already gets the value it deserves, and are listed in first places. That's why I think top altcoins may be the investment you are looking for. Those with a lower marketcap will be more risky from your point of view.

the main purpose of investing is to get profit from the coins that you have invested. but because what you mean is a large altcoin, I also believe and it doesn't matter if I invest my money in the highest altcoin form like ETH or BNB. because I believe that the top altcoin still has a big chance to reach high prices in the future.
Top altcoins are always good to invest in a longterm even they are still not safe as bitcoin to invest but the chance of getting higher profits is higher than investing in bitcoin because the price of bitcoin won't pump hard but slowly

Altcoins are now a very difficult situation. I would not consider them as investments, especially long-term ones. It's better to focus on bitcoin.

Long term investment can only be done with those coins for which the development activity is ongoing without any major issue. Very few of the altcoins will qualify if we consider this criteria. Take the example of Ethereum. During the past few months, the development timelines have been postponed multiple times and the roll-out of ETH 2.0 has been delayed quite a bit.
It is a known fact that the ETH 2.0 will not roll out in time and what they have proposed might bring the fall of the entire ETH market. Lets see how the market will perform in the next two years and i highly doubt we will see any rally in ETH but it can have his speculative run when ever the price of bitcoin goes higher and so is the case with majority of the alt coin market. Well every crypto do lose its value so why be bothered on not investing on the major ones. If you do want to invest and lose it better yet try to invest in stable coins however the profit in their isn't as great or big as investing to crypto itself. Do not get the wrong idea mate, it is still up to you on where you will risk your money.

actually I'm a little confused by your question. what is meant by large altcoin? what are the top 10 coins?
if yes it is true that the top 10 coins of the past two years have lost most of their value. but that does not mean coins will crash and disappear. and for the past two years we have been in the bear market which has caused all cryptocurrency to experience a downward trend. but I am sure that when bitcoin pumps and we enter the bull market, altcoin will also increase.

Coins in the top 10 coinmarketcap in my opinion deserve to be a long-term investment. Altcoin in the crypto market is more than 4000 and I think only a few survive for a long time and only altcoin has a large market cap that can provide profit
