is there any possibility of him/her becoming better if they are relocated to another environment or society where people around are not involved in gambling?

Can someone still develop the habit of gambling and become an addict even though no one around gambles?

when someone wants to live a better life by stopping gambling and moving to an environment far from gambling activities but that person does not have the desire and determination to stop gambling, he will still become a gambling addict.
getting better or it can be said to stop playing gambling is actually not a factor of the surrounding community, but because of their own desires.
so the environmental factor is only 30% to stop gambling and 70% of the main factor is themselves with a strong desire to stop gambling so that their life becomes even better.

With the advent of online gambling, it becomes really hard as to how this could be feasible.
Environment have a vital role in playing in one's development of an addictive character towards gambling and could have also played a huge role as to its reduction but having all these opportunities online makes that a difficult living. The online platform accords you a different environment as well and it could be all an addictive gambler needs to gamble.
There are exceptions to this though as to laws and places with network issues. Mots of all, you need help and discipline to put a stop to addiction. Environment alone can't solve the problem!

You will agree with me that society and the environment can have a great influence on the lifestyle of every individual, you often can find yourself doing, or being involved in that activity that almost everyone is involved with in that your locale as a result of influence. Now considering someone who is a gambling addict, is there any possibility of him/her becoming better if they are relocated to another environment or society where people around are not involved in gambling?

Can someone still develop the habit of gambling and become an addict even though no one around gambles?
Both scenarios can be possible or not depending on the individual as well if he engages in the activities or resist it to not be involve. This kind of questions is always subjective because not in all instances we can't be so sure even on ourselves or someone else's behavior.

i agree with you. There are high chances environments can lure people to addictive gambling. It's in very rare occasion where people discipline themselves enough not be get influenced by what the see while they grow. But on average an individual is a product of what the see, hear, experience and interact with and the circumstances that surround their upbringing in our case here a society of gamblers isn't an exception to this. And most of this gamblers turns out gurus and pro gamblers due to the fact the grew with the lifestyle.

I agree with you that society and environment can have a great impact and influence on the person's lifestyle, But I think personal will and upbringing also plays important role too, I said this because I personally have lived in a very untidy area, a kind of place called ghetto, this was an area filled with criminals, drug addicts, smokers, gamblers, Alcoholics, persons addicted to different kinds of unlawful attitudes and lifestyles, I lived there and in the mist of all this people, I was never influenced by any of this things probably because of the way I was brought up, all my friends that time were addict smokers and gamblers, but I never smoked or gambled until I school took me out of that ghetto to a better place, I start gambling bit by bit when I was much older and already working for my own money.

So, I personally believe that the way a person is brought up and his or her personal will also plays an important role in what a person can allow to influence him or her in the society.

I think yes, gambling addicts have a chance to change and become good at something that is beneficial to themselves. That always depends on a gambler’s decision if he wants to help himself change from the addiction he has.

I can attest to this that really helpful , I become addicted in gambling for years and yes it makes me felt desperate and almost lost everything , till time that i ask my family how to get away and my parents advise me to leave my place for a while. so me and my family decide to go outside the city and live in country side and yes it helps a lot and made me clean after more than 6 months , now i can finally say that i am a addiction free and can stand in middle of gamblers without any betting lust.

First of all, congratulations because you have gone through and you really went through a difficult process as well to say. But in the end you still managed to change yourself from your gambling addiction with the help of your own family. I am also happy with that and you will not be tempted because you already know how to resist it.

Environmental change is certainly one of the factors that will change our personality, if we live in a good environment then the possibility of our personality will be better, but if we want to stop gambling I think environmental changes do not guarantee we can change gambling habits because all of this is very dependent on our personal intentions, unlike drug addicts where he can stop using drugs when moving to an environment where people don't use drugs at all so addicts can't find a place to buy drugs in that environment.

one alternative to changing excessive bad habits, especially gambling addiction.  this is one of the tips from healing that can have a good impact on recovery. a person can move from place to place, to the city or to the countryside for a temporary recovery which he is doing in the process of cleaning. the atmosphere in one area can be a trigger in the process of self-improvement or what happens may be the opposite and the most influential factor is strong determination and you have done it.  congrats you have made it through the addiction problem

It is the same as drug addiction , or other addiction mate m so this is something  we must understand that changing location or environment will help in small way but our desire and dedication will help us more.

because even if you isolate yourself from gambling in a meanwhile but surely you will change place in the future again and after that? then you may find your self in gambling again in the future.

so make sure that you will love this to do and dedicate everything against gambling.

Drug addiction is far worse. Its the health of the gambler that is at stake and they can do crimes when high and I agree this is very close to gambling addiction since its the environment that influences a person.

I mixed up with a wrong crowd when I go college, it didn't being me to a good future. I don't think I have drug addiction but its always trouble when we are high. Peer pressure is just as influential as the environment that forces you to do things without you realizing it.

MAaaN...!! CUT THAT STUPID SHIT
It can be said that people value the environment. In other words, the people will be the same as the environment. However, it seems to me that since all gambling is now online based , he is getting the opportunity to do that gambling even if he is transferred to any new environment. So the effect of the environment that needs to be worn but will not fall on it. Or even if it falls, it will not last long.

it's true and it's become a lifestyle nowadays. Gambling can be done online and even now we have entered the metaverse era, so it will be easier to access gambling. The new environment only affects the lives of the two, but his main life remains in gambling. those who are addicted to gambling will maintain it.
For those who are already addicted to psychological treatment and rehabilitation and there is full support from people around and family.

So, I believe that the people an individual lives with greatly influence someone's lifestyle and habits.
First, because nobody likes to do something alone, human beings are very social and tend to get involved with what people around them do.

So my answer is "yes"... I believe this addiction can be drastically reduced in a country or region where people don't engage in gambling.

Changing the environment will not stop the urge unless he is living in an isolated place with no internet or cut off from casinos online and he has positive people around him, that will help him forget gambling but the symptoms are always present when there is an opportunity to gamble or he got online access he will continue to gamble, to stop or cure gambling you need professional help to totally stop it.

Simply it can help but need more actions again to strengthen the effort to stop gambling addiction. As we think that it must be very difficult to stop gambling if we are still living in an environment in which most people are gambling, this will be very difficult to have additional recovery.
However, if we are moving to a new environment that is no gambling activities here, which will be helpful.

Although the environment is actually not the only way to help us stop gambling addiction, this is not enough if only depend on the environment. Because we may still addict to gambling online in which nobody around knows that we are still gambling. That is why we need more extra helps and effort from several factors. Our family, medical treatment or rehabilitation with special treatment, ourself awareness, big support from family, and other things that can enhance our spirit to stop gambling. Stoping from a gambling addict is not easy, it is like stopping from smoking addict, and worse.

At the end of the day each person has the ability to decide to gamble or not.

The environment they live in can make it harder or easier, but it's up to the actual person to decide what to do.

I am with you on this one. If the person has other goals he wants to achieve in life.
His environment won't dictate his future, because he can always change his way of living depending on his disposition in life.
Remember, those stories from poverty, the countless rags to riches stories, so it is the same with this aspect.
The environment is not the ultimate factor that will dictate the future of the person. It is the person himself.

In reality, yes. There's no 100% way that a person can avoid gambling. Gambling-related stuff is everywhere and even just a simple listening to the radio, watching TV, browsing a Facebook news feed and Tiktok reels, there's a chance that someone can encounter gambling.

Gambling is already part of our society. It's good for me that these persons will encounter gambling as not all of them will be hooked on it. Trust me, it's not really on the environment but on how those people will react once they saw gambling.

Like here in our place, we are a gambling-friendly country and almost all gambling is here but in our circle of friends, I think only 2-3 out of 10+ people are hooked on gambling and those are not even addicted. I mean, I'm the most addicted lol.

See what I'm trying to picture out here? It's on people if they will gamble, not on anything.

Can someone still develop the habit of gambling and become an addict even though no one around gambles?
I think that it can help someone to move from a gambling addict. ut, this is not the only way to make someone recover from the addiction. There must be several factors supported:
- It will work if the environment is friendly enough and exactly support not gambling anymore
- There are still somebody or some people who support him to recover from his gambling addiction
- He has new activities so that he can be busy with the activities and no longer have time for gambling
- Still need specific treatment
It is of course not as easy as we think, but at least, we have tried it.
