Can someone still develop the habit of gambling and become an addict even though no one around gambles?

This is very possible, many gamblers start from having interest in sports and football to be precise which has the highest fans and spectators, right from what we do from childhood contribute to our craving for sport gambling when we grew up, there are some children that don't have access to move around or privileged to be in areas dominated by gamblers but due to their interest and commitment to sport games they have fun when doing it and will also derive good pleasure in playing them as gamble in other to rate their performances in it, the environment we lived in can influence both positive and negative impact of gambling on young adults if they are subjected to it.

You will agree with me that society and the environment can have a great influence on the lifestyle of every individual, you often can find yourself doing, or being involved in that activity that almost everyone is involved with in that your locale as a result of influence. Now considering someone who is a gambling addict, is there any possibility of him/her becoming better if they are relocated to another environment or society where people around are not involved in gambling?

Relocation and a change in environment can have positive effects on addictions. I don't know much about gambling addictions, but we have other addictions in our family that are very severe. My little cousin is gaming addicted, he already played games daily since a very you age. When he went to university my uncle rented him his own apartment where he started gaming all day. It took the family 1.5 years to realise that he never went to university and played every day at home, while lying to the family that he was getting good grades. Since his addiction is so severe there is no more chance for him to live alone. He is now at farm with other addicts and gets supervised while working with animals. I assume with gambling addiction is similar, you lie to your friends and family while everything spirals out of control. Relocation can help to break old habits, but only as part of a therapy. As for people gambling around you I think it's not so common now since most people gamble online. Most interaction with other gamblers is online.

Yes, I agree that society and the environment can influence every individual. But that influence will not really affect our lives as long as we have clear boundaries on how we will live our lives.

And regarding gambling, maybe he would be better off if he was transferred to a neighborhood or society that wasn't involved in gambling. But if he does not get treatment or is not given help to overcome his addiction, he will be difficult to cure. The easiness of the internet everywhere can still provide a way for that person to access gambling easily because we know that many people play gambling through gambling.

Yes environment is one of the big factor why a person get addicted on gambling because for continuous seeing those people gamble especially there friends for sure he will also get influenced by them especially when he see that those people are enjoying the games they play. This is how addiction starts and also once they hit big wins then provably this will lead people to gamble more since they are aiming to win huge money again.

The only country that this would work is if you go to God forbid Saudi Arabia. There pretty much you are restricted from any freedom except the freedom to practice religion if I am not wrong. You cannot go out there and have an alcoholic drink with a friend, nor can you go with a hooker if you need immediate sex,nor you can watch porn unless you use a VPN service, nor you can flirt with a girl as you will get arrested pretty soon (not that there are girls there, everyone is wearing something that covers the women completely).

By going to that country you surely will lose your gambling addiction as no one there gambles but you will lose many other life freedoms that we have in the West. The choice is yours.

He or she will find a way to do it even in an environment where people don't gamble much or no physical casinos around.
We have the internet as a good start. They can access a lot of gambling sites to make it happen. Almost every house today have access to the internet and he will definitely find it with all the advertisements on social media to articles with small windows of ads.
It will still depend on the individual's mental strength if he wants to change his habit. If he does, then a good environment could really work.

We must consider the power of the internet now, we may not have friends around who are not into gambling but how about your friends on the internet who are into gambling or sites that you visit those show banners and links about gambling

Environmental Impact on individual behavior is high, and if an addict can change the environment and get involved in other activities different from gambling there will be changes. Our environment often time push and influence our decisions and if our mind can be disengaged from our addiction, the urge to feed such addiction will be broken and change can be effective.

To answer your question,

1.If someone have the decision of changing location due to his addiction to gambling and use this as a means of helping his/her out of this situation, Then "Yes" but must have to engage self with other activities in that locale, hence you might be tempted to finding means to continuing your gambling in that new environment, Except if that environment doesn't have network /internet and no betting shops around.

2. Though base on research that addition to gambling could be linked to traits /heredity, However something must spark it up as someone begins to grow or start getting mature which could be Persistent of exposure to gambling friends or environment.
can make someone gradually develop gambling habit. In the absence of this factors,  Then "No" is the answer.

No! because no one right there will gonna teach them or no one they see to inspire them such habit. though they will see some examples on Television, it's really nothing compared to the actual environment where you find yourself doing what most of the people do in your community. But when you see someone playing gambling in your place, the first thing you will gonna feel is curiosity and it depends on whether you like it or not, when you feel happiness, looking at it, there's a high chance for you to fall for it and you will find yourself one of the guys who have some endless thought on what he will do next to win big.

Someone who comes from an environment or society used to gambling will have the opportunity to change for the better because he will feel embarrassed to try to play in his usual gambling place.
This will make it inconvenient to visit the gambling place but if it is an online casino, it may not mean that he can reduce his gambling activities because he can gamble in a quiet place.
If a person really wants to change to be a better person, then I think he has to make a new habit where he might need to move to a new place that can really help him to change.
But this is not easy considering that if someone has played gambling for a very long time, he has felt the comfort factor, making it difficult to move to a new place.

I have always said that if a person wants to overcome his gambling addiction he must change his lifestyle by moving to another area where there is no temptation to gamble. But the main factor that may affect this is the understanding of the problem and the desire to solve it.

Any person can become addicted to gambling because in order to play gambling it is enough to have a desire, a cell phone (computer) and the Internet.

It takes a good length of time and periods to heal from gambling addictions, this answer and question must have been asked a thousand times, nothing new about it.
Yes. One can continue gambling and still be addicted if he is not busy with other aspects of life and still has access to internet.
Having that alone will make one directly gamble online, it takes a strong character to stop gambling.

I think its definitely effective thing to change environment, surroundings (even furniture) and people around you. I know that in past, psychologists would offer people to go embrace nature for a while to relax and end their stress. If you wanna quit gambling it can be awesome to go walk around flowers, trees, sunshine etc. You will not have internet if you don't use phone so, even better.
To avoid internet access is a must when trying to recover from gambling addiction, because even if people around him aren't gamblers and the environment doesn't offer any casinos, slot-machines at pubs or cards games, it's still possible to wager online. The environment is important and makes difference in someone's life, but attention and care for the addicted one are still required, considering there are high chances he is going to find gaps on his new reality to go back to the old one in order to maintain the addiction, and consequently all the excitement or adrenaline it brings to him.

You can, and still have to be accompanied by a sincere and serious intention to change it if your gambling addiction is really acute.
a good environment will change you for the better and vice versa, with an environment that has positive activities and an even better environment such as entering an environment that always has religious activities that will quickly free you from addiction. And will bring you closer to God.
And you should also get rid of all the gambling related things in your mind and gadgets and change them with things that are positive and beneficial for you.

It’s really up to you, no one can know that you are into gambling and changing location or moving into a new environment doesn’t restrict you from playing again. Having a self-control will still matter here because by this, you can be more effective and might be able to stop that gambling addiction to happen. Changing environment will only give you a positive lifestyle, and its really your choice.

Agree. Changing location and environment will really do so much little about someone's gambling addiction because gambling addiction will not heal overnight. It doesn't magically disappear and viola! you are no longer a gambling addict. It doesn't work that way and it never will be. It needs professional intervention such as counselling and rehabilitation. Changing environment could help a bit but it won't guarantee a sure recovery from being addicted in gambling.

Because even though you change environment, but you won't address the root cause and problem of you being a gambling addict, then you will not totally heal. You will just mask yourself up. Probably you'll  stop gambling for a while but after some time of being not active, you'll crave it and try to find it in your system which will cause you to have a setback from old habits. And then eventually, you'll just find yourself being addicted again despite being in a whole new environment. And the cycle will just continue if you will not be treated accordingly.

[Nope]No hype delivers more than hope
One should go as far as possible to remote places where there is no internet access, physical casinos, and neighbors who will absolutely not be contaminated by any form of gambling even though you will take your habits to that place. Let's say it is an environment that is thick and concerned with (perhaps) customary and religious laws that prohibit gambling. I don't know where it is but it's somewhere in this hemisphere.

That should be enough to mentally educate the addict hard that the only way to make money is to get out of the addiction and start another job or business

Yes, like the drug addict, getting him to change places and companies can have a positive effect. What happens is that you have to attack the internal causes as well, otherwise there is a risk that he will end up gambling (or taking drugs) in the new place, especially nowadays when gambling is accessible 24/7 from your mobile phone. It's not like a long time ago when you had to go to a physical location where they could see your face. There wasn't the immediacy that there is today.

Yes agree with you on this, society and people around you have impact over you and can change the habits of gambling addict.Like they are spending time together and having good discussion about their lifestyle so the person might enjoy their company and play less. But in some extreme scenarios person might not care what's his surrounding environment is and keep on his same lifestyle becoming addict so there can be both cases for it.
