If a gambler chooses to stop because of age, I will just assume that he has better things to use his money on and he is mature enough to recognize that. I think that if you are wealthy or comfortable enough, even if you age you will still continue to gamble. In my country, the older you are the more you gamble because you have no more job anymore and your kids are adults and they have their own families. There’s really no responsibilities anymore. That is if you are not concerned about finances. Otherwise, I don’t think anyone will stop.

In the meantime, I want to discuss the reality that a gambler can reach the age where he doesn't want to gamble anymore. When we start aging our priorities in life start changing. We get to have more responsibilities in our hands. Remembering the extent to which we gamble when we are youth it is observed that gambling can be more appealing during our youth stage. But it's less when we get older.

Statistically, youths gamble more than the elderly. This might be because youths can take more risks and have fewer responsibilities. As a man gets married and starts having children his responsibilities increase and he would start becoming more economical. He has to plan effectively on how to maximize the funds at his disposal to manage his family. Spending on gambling will be reduced at this age.

The reason why most persons stop gambling while aging is because of financial security which I mentioned earlier about taking responsibilities, being focused on their family, retirement, and other life goals which gambling may not be important at this stage of life.

During retirement, gambling might increase if you have good financial support. Some retirees don't depend only on pensions or welfare to survive. They have established businesses and have some investments that give them money. And they might be fortunate to have wealthy children that support them. But a struggling retiree might even quit gambling since his resources are meagre. But I would like to keep gambling for fun in old age.

Another reason why people might stop gambling is because of health issues. People with severe respiratory problems shouldn't risk too much in gambling because a big loss or win can affect them negatively. And the elderly are prone to some diseases such as high blood pressure. I will gladly quit gambling if the doctor recommends it.

I don't think so, gamblers who loves gambling for fun more than money won't have any reason to quit even when they are so old unless they start developing loss memories issues or health issues in general.

Another good reason why a old person can quit gambling is just the old part, I am putting myself in the shoes here, what more can I need or do with money when I am already very old? I will leave everything behind any time, as older as we get we are closer to death, youth age are the best.

health is a big factor here and that needless feeling of money, I've lived with two old people in my life, they felt less desire to money as they aged.

Even as a person grows older, his mentality changes and he becomes responsible. It is difficult for a responsible person to engage in risky activities like gambling. Because when you have family responsibilities you will not agree to spend your money in a place where you are more likely to lose money if you are responsible. Even if he is responsible for his family, finding free time like gambling will be the biggest challenge for him.
Really? if it's really like that, the number of gamblers is low because only teenagers are gambling.

When someone already have a job and live away from their parents, they're responsible with themselves. But, I find that many people who have a jobs or have been married still gamble, I don't think we can say them as irresponsible when they have family to feed.

Many people gamble as a chance to make more money since they've working whole day and didn't get paid enough.

I feel it because I also have the intention to be able to reduce it but I can also stop if I want to.
When I was young and not married, I could be said to be an active gambler but not addicted and I played almost every day, and when I was married I started to reduce it because I already had a wife to support and after having children my burden was felt more and no matter how little money I had, it meant a lot which made me regret it if I used it to gamble.
And as time goes by, apart from getting older and also the increasing needs of my family, I also intend to stop gambling because gambling will not help my existing finances, on the contrary.
So I think as time goes by and we get older and our needs increase we will realize that no matter how little money we get, it means a lot, but if our income is more than enough or we have other sources of income I think gambling once in a while is okay and will not make us addicted just for fun as a form of entertainment. And you have to look at the situation and stay focused and prioritize your family so that when you want to act excessively, you remember your family.

What do you think are other reasons why gamblers may choose to stop gambling while they are aging?

The major reason doesn't depends on their wishes relevant to gambling. Aging involves irreversible brain cells alterations  which make any person to be less active in his living. He/she doesn't feel like doing something gambling included. The ultimate of such feelings is (gradually) morphing into an absolute slackness which is  on the full display with people who suffer Alzheimer's disease.

Well, I assume we all know how gambling can affect our emotional heath and it take only a disciplined gambler to escape the tricks of wanting to fall eviction to addiction and irresponsible gambling habits. gamble if not properly approached in the right manner destroy your effort that has been built in decades. however the more aged we get, the more our bodies start losing the ability to withstand certain news and shocks. a gambler above the age of 70 is likely to have a system failure when they receive bad news than a young gambler in his 30s. however  I wouldn't advise anyone in his 70s to see gamble as a source of income, but rather as a means of catching some fun.

Maybe there should be a poll/survey among old gamblers to answer your question, but unfortunately I don't know about such poll/survey.
I'm not old enough to judge by myself about when there will be a moment, when I won't have the desire to gamble anymore.
Maybe you should ask older gamblers, if you manage to find them somewhere around the place, where you live. My personal opinion is that age doesn't matter. I've seen old gamblers playing slots in casinos, so I don't think that age is something that could stop gambler from gambling.

Patience and hard work are the keys to success.
A young person and an old person do not have the same ability to withstand stress. Of course gambling puts a person under a lot of stress. A young person can handle that stress very easily, but an old person's capacity to bear that stress decreases. As you age, stress can cause heart attacks or other types of traumatic accidents, enough to cause death.

Even as a person grows older, his mentality changes and he becomes responsible. It is difficult for a responsible person to engage in risky activities like gambling. Only you will know what is the reason you stop gambling because that will depends on the situation that you face. If you think that you are getting old and feels that playing gambling in your age is not comfortable, you can stop gambling and focus to the other things. But some people will say that they don't want to gambling when they are getting old because they have family and they want to focus on that. Maybe they have other life goals and not just playing gambling so that will be their reason to stop gambling. We will need to know when we really stop gambling because if we just playing gambling, we can not enjoy our life especially with our family because they are our focus and will be the important thing for us.

What do you think are other reasons why gamblers may choose to stop gambling while they are aging?
There's no age limit when it comes to gambling, older people can choose to stop because I believe that priorities change when you're getting older. What used to give you excitement can become boring to you, so you'll just naturally discard them without having any regrets. Sometimes it could be because you're not getting any benefits from gambling anymore, maybe because of financial reasons or you can't bear the risks of gambling anymore, perhaps for health reasons. Old age comes with a lot of responsibilities and not being able to do everything that we love, so they should leave some food and habits, then engage in what suits their health.

Gambling for eternity is not a healthy for us and we also do not have to quit gambling due to aging circumstances.
There is always that stage in time when you I personal would have other phase in life that could be much regarded and then you would have to quick aside some leisure activities that doesn't really matters which outdoors and the gambling could be involved.
Just as you mentioned OP, "tackling or responsibilities" probably you don't feel the fun on gambling anymore due to aging.

But if we must quit gambling, we just have to do it when we think it's time and right anf not waiting for ages.
Agreeably too, when a gambler is addicted, they either don't have that remorse or relenting from gambling because they either chases endless profits on gambling or can not replace their funs of gambling from another.

What do you think are other reasons why gamblers may choose to stop gambling while they are aging?
A gambler who gets as much fun from other extracurricular activities as he used to get from gambling may choose to stop gambling. For instance, going fishing with his family may be that kind of activity. Another could be coaching the basketball team of his local community where kids look up to him and he finds satisfaction in it. These are some of the kind of things that one may choose over gambling as they age.

Gamblers do not stop gambling because of age but because they are broke or have made it from gambling that they decide to reduced the risk that they are taking but many still do not stop gambling completely. Gambling gets to the stage that it hold you tight through addiction and you can not stop gambling no matter how you try unless you get help from a professional and have your family or friends around your corner. I have seen people at old age still gambling because they are having fun or addicted. When they stop gambling for those that depended on gambling for money for all their life existence, what are they going to do to make the money then. Only when you have a very strong will can you decide to quit gambling and actually do it but it will still be difficult.

I believe it comes with the maturity that a person can bring towards how it influences the person. Imagine being able to control yourself and understand yourself more if you want to continue your gambling habits.

There are a lot of health concerns as well concerning age. So it could be a factor in stopping yourself from gambling. With additional life experience as well, it might be with increased wisdom and understanding.

This change will happen in my opinion when someone is about to get married. For example, someone who is still young with a habit of still liking to gamble and sometimes can even make him spend quite a lot of money, but this kind of behavior will be thought of by itself and will be considered when they already have a partner and want to go to a more serious level. I believe that someone will realize and reduce their gambling habits, but I don't know when exactly, I just think everyone will feel something like this.
Serious addicts will also feel this but it is not easy for them to return to the right path, they must be able to fight their desire to gamble and that is not an easy thing to do. Many people try to recover from their addiction but not a few fail to do it. This is a problem that I think happens to many individuals, but I don't know how it is with those who even though they are old still like to gamble.

I think age doesn't matter, but people quit because of reason.

Example you're in a relationship with a woman that don't like gambling, if you still want to be with her, you're forced to quit gambling.

1. Shame. It looks awful when really old people are seen gambling. By old, I mean those above 60 years.
There's no shame to see old people still gambling, just like this one https://www.reddit.com/r/ThatsInsane/comments/ynyfw0/americas_senior_citizens/

Old people have a lot time, they mostly bored because when they were young, they're very productive. Since they got bored, I will not be surprised if they might choose to play gambling in order to kill their free time.

I agree with you yes, but to some extent. It can only be possible for some old Gamblers to quit if they come into realisation that it is no longer helpful or needless to their age, but some old Gamblers never stop even when they are old. When they are stick with that mentality that they must surely win someday, they keep on hoping even when there is no strength. This set of old Gamblers don't change till death.

What do you think are other reasons why gamblers may choose to stop gambling while they are aging?
Addiction is just the word. Because it can certainly be addiction that can make an ageing man to still keep gambling even till that time of his life.

That's why there's that thing called, "Youthful Exuberance". Every old person passed through that, except those who were mentally deranged or imbecilic during this period in reference. That's when the adrenaline pumps more to indulge in adventure. At 40 and above, that urge gradually dies off.

2. Illness.

There’s no age cap on gambling...if someone loves it, they can keep going, even at 100, as long as they're able. Winning makes you want to keep at it, so quitting while you’re making money or enjoying it doesn’t make much sense.

For me, I’m not that old yet, but I think I could still be betting at 70. Most of my gambling is online anyway. Hopefully, by then, I’d be mature enough to manage my losses better or maximize my wins...that’s all I’d want.
