I don't know very well Tether, is it using a cryptography tech or is it just a scriptural money?

Tether runs on OMNI Layer, the original smart contract system running on the Bitcoin blockchain. That isn't so important as I was just trying to illustrate that although Satoshi described it as a payment system it is actually far more. It's an entire monetary system.

Ok, yes perhaps the fixed value wasn't a good argument. So, the supply and demand is what makes people speculating on (or at least it participates), but what if Bitcoin wasn't capped at 21 million, we could have less speculation less volatility and so less "investments in"
Or if Bitcoin was somehow stable +/-5% people wouldn't jump on the wagon to get a better return than a saving account

Stability will come with size. Forget all the talk of market cap as that really doesn't mean anything in terms of a currency. Only a small proportion of Bitcoins are actually traded and involved in the price discovery process. Forex markets have much more liquidity so it takes much more money to move USDEUR than it does to move BTCUSD. As an example, if the price of BTC was 10x then it would take 10x as much money to move the price the same amount.

I think there's something in your argument that it is wrong to think of it as an investment. It is really a question of inflationary money vs. deflationary money. It is clear to me that the fixed supply was intended to mean that it would always gain value over fiat money over a long timespan and thus make it a more attractive type of money to use and store your wealth in.

If someone thinks of it as an investment then they are going to buy it to hold and then later take profits by selling back to fiat. I prefer just to think of it as a form of money that I would rather have and keep.

Bitcoin is an investment whether we like or not. Like every other investment assets such as property, gold, silver bitcoin has become one but a better one with a high profit margin for the investor in a short period of time for the minimum investment possible

I saw many questions in this place and lots of questions are very related to each other but this type of question I never saw in this place can anyone actually ask this not to say an investment as an investment. Why anyone not to say their investment as an investment after all they are invest a lot of money on that so they love to call it an investment. I think its completely right to say it an investment what more should I say about this BTC people are crazy to buy this BTC and it become so rare and as days are passes it rates are being higher day by day through the market is quit down for some days and many reason behind for this down of this BTC but still we all know that this is just a certain down of this market. It will change soon.

This post make senses but i think everything has changed already. Bitcoin is becoming a store of value as of like gold. bitcoin could never be the thing it was designed for. greed for money has taken over.

For me bitcoin is indeed a good investment and very profitable in the long term, so I still think that bitcoin is an investment, and in my opinion there is nothing wrong when we say that bitcoin is an investment, because that is the case happening now.

If Bitcoin had a fixed value the majority wouldn't use it as their investment nor as a currency. Bitcoin could be used for the main reasons it was created for. People in need of an alternate currency for cross-border payments, free from any authority. Unbanking all of us to get a total control over our money. The idea of a cryptocurrency originated from anarchists.

And considering Bitcoin as an investment, sorry but there are better investments with your bank and much fewer risks.
I would rather prefer to earn a 6% per annum than to lose 400% in  2 months.

If Bitcoin was just intended to be a payment system why did Satoshi not just create something like Tether?

I posted in a discussion on this theme recently:

[Discussion]How to decentralize the price of the bitcoin? Self-moderated.

It is my opinion that the decentralisation of money creation and supply is more important to Bitcoin than just being a trustless Visa or Paypal.

PS. This is an interesting subject but it is really difficult to discuss with all this signature spam. It is time to make all threads in Bitcoin Discussion self-moderated.

Yeah I think that the original purpose of bitcoin was not just as a transaction vehicle but also to be a tool for people. That's why there's no reason to be getting upset about calling it an investment, although I would agree that it does make it vulnerable for the wall street vampires to sink their fangs into.

Bitcoin turning into a visa or paypal system would spell the doom for it. Then it'd probably be made into a fractional reserve system so the bankers can wipe their asses with futures contracts written in millions and billions of bitcoins. Bastards.

I guess we cant stop calling it as an investment because bitcoin is all about volatility and the changing of its value from then on and on. Bitcoin was supposed to be a project created to solve the problem in our way of using fiat money on government and other stuffs like that but the idea of how bitcoin can be a good profit if we know how to trade and learn some skills like holding, staking and selling thats how we forgot the main goal of cryptocurrency and we only think of it as an investment for a good profit. Thats why I guess we cant stop calling it an invedtment because we invedt our money on it to gain some extra profit.

Can you stop calling Bitcoin an investment?

This damages the cryptocurrency. Bitcoin was not created to become an investment. Before Bitcoin, there were some digital currencies years back, the goal was always to be able to create a (digital) currency free from central banks and governments.
Cypherpunks and other anarcho-capitalists are at the origin of this idea, perhaps 20 or 30 years ago. None were intended to make an investment to be rich quickly.
You won't find in the white paper "investing" mentioned, you won't find any post from Satoshi mentioning it

Considering Bitcoin as an investment, this is the reason why we have more and more regulations, G20 summits and others craps, KYC, etc...
The word "Crypto-assets" didn't exist before, why did they create it? Because you even consider it an investment, then why shouldn't they?
Bitcoin could be a lot more accepted and used by now. Why should a merchant agree to be paid in Bitcoin? He wants money, not a piece of your investment.

You're not even investing, you are just gambling with money.
Go to the altcoins board, you will surely find plenty of ICOs where you can say you invested in. I have something for you, ICOs used to raise money are no different than "Crowdfunding". If you want to invest then there are a lot of Crowdfunding websites where you can invest in real startups with fewer risks, (you won't find any project using photos from Pixabay...)

Why don't we see cryptographers anymore? Guess the reasons
maybe it's true what you are saying bitcoin is a digital currency, let's say it's a deposit, if it's like a fiat currency that has been recognized by everyone and the country, indeed if we see that it's a money bet to get a profit

The fact that people forgot that Bitcoin is a digital currency but due to it's fluctuating value, people are more likely to keep in until it becomes the value that they want. They forgot that the fact that Bitcoin was made is to become a decentralized currency which is used for an easier and more convenient financial transactions.

If you don't participate in Bitcoin investment, BTC has no risk.
Bitcoin is like a gambling game. Everyone who participates in gambling knows that gambling must have a win or lose. If you enter a bitcoin investment, you may lose profits or make a profit at any time, just like this.

there is no other word for me to teach to others, bitcoin in my country is only allowed as a commodity asset, not an official currency. many don't believe if I don't use the word. the mind of a beginner is that bitcoin is a circulation of stocks that always fluctuate, no country fully recognizes it as an official currency, and their mindset remains only as an investment.

Why should we stop calling btc an investment? No reason for that. Btc does work as investment and storage of value to people, especially when they want to diversify risks or so. So btc does work as an investment tool.

Okay, but bitcoin it’s business for some people. And today, there are numerous Bitcoin business opportunities to consider and it can be used as an investment tool. So, people invest in it and can get a profit.

Please read the OP post, you're just telling nonsense. The guy brought everything right and some people here should think hardly about the way they treat Bitcoin
