untampered-misspelled-2011 Cassius Coin For Sale

http://www.ebay.com/itm/untampered-misspelled-Cassius

You'd have much better luck if you started your own thread. Any potential buyer here will already know what this is.

It would also help if you spell Casascius correctly in you ad.

In the months preceding the December ATH, I nudged a guy with a '1337' in his 1 BTC S1 coin address to ask for a premium. I believe he was successful.

There's a markup whenever demand exceeds the 'stock' demand. For novelty addresses, the value-add has unsurprisingly seemed to relate to a) novelty/cool-factor/appeal of the address in question, multiplied by b) the base-level-demand for a piece.

I paid a pretty penny to get this address. Not too many ALL CAPS addresses. It's still my favorite address on any of my coins.

There are only 17 100 BTC bars left. I speculated that its rarity multiplied by the 17-remaining-active-mintage rarity would appreciate over time.

It's a giant gamble, or more accurately, speculation. If the market disagrees with that assessment, I might have paid an insane premium that only I value.

As with the previous comments...I do not expect these kind of nuanced value-adds to be priced in until we have a far more mature market.

I do want to mention - there is a nearly-comatose but still alive market thread for conversation and exchange of specific casascius pieces.

I've generally tried my discussion in Mike's thread a bit more focused to crypto coins in general, casascius-specific discussion, etc. I apologize if I derailed.

While looking through my stock, I had a funny idea, and that was to find a coin with my username on the hologram.
Well, there are several, but there's one I'd be particularly interested in:
16qwkrk8 2moBR27sbWYW8hbyAPFUd1vV37 (second part completes the address)
This coin must be in circulation somewhere, so if anyone could find that -> PM Grin

Also, while we're at "vanity casascius coins", what about one of these:
(they're unfunded, so they're either demo coins or never went out)

What is actual market price for a 2011 brass coin serie 2 (no error) funded by Mike early 2012 ?

Depends on condition (mint and stored in an airtite since purchase or handled ?), if graded or not (and if so what grade they got).

Give a bit more info, and should be able to give you a price range

Whilst 2011 s2 coins are fewer in number than the 2011 s1's, they dont command the same premium

It is mint, unhandled, uncirculated, stored in a thing like that since I bought it (never opened)

Post a picture of it and we can give you a pretty good idea of what it would sell for.

It might even be that collectors favorite some rare pieces of redeemed coins more than filled coins - because if they are mainly interested in numismatic = rare value, it might be better to avoid the bitcoin price volatily, particularly for 500 or 1000 BTC pieces.
That brings to mind...
When you ordered casascius coins you had the option to also buy some "demo" coins along with them.
Those were already peeled but had never before been loaded, AFAIK. Hand-peeled by casascius, that is Wink
Here's two 2011-error-demo-coins, possibly a lot rarer than the regular 2011-errors Cool

Unfortunately, because of the peeling, you don't really see the spelling error.

Looking to sell or trade 1 of them ?

You have it very well summarized.

It will be interested to see what the relative premium will be. Definitely one of the more interesting corners of the future bitcoin market.

There don't seem to be all that many spent coins up for sale that have retained their holograms. That would be a big factor in determining their provenance. Anyone who could be bothered could knock out blank replicas by the ton.

I guess the majority were cracked open when BTC value was much lower and they didn't think there'd be much future value for the coin itself so didn't retain shipping labels, holograms, the Casascius business card etc. Even then it's not possible to prove much about a blank coin.

There already are blank fakes, albeit not very exact and mainly for fun. If someone got serious then anything without a verified chain of ownership is pretty much impossible to vouch for.

The market will ultimately get to decide. I expect the value to be based on a combination of scarcity and demand. As a seller, I do not intend to offer such pieces if/until the market becomes significantly larger.
A few examples. Nubbins has sold a bunch of a rare-mintage coin, only 45 exist.  He's gotten something like a 2000% premium for them.  That is all collector value. A redeemed piece would have had 1900/2000 the actual value, all the rest is investor-value-added.

There are rarer pieces.
There are only 17 of the S1 100 BTC bars.
There are only TWO of the 500 BTC bars.

Once the market takes off, some people will try to build complete sets.
Every single investor will have to make concessions on what their set is.
It would only be possible for one person to make a complete set. Only 1 500 BTC bar remains. I think only 1 or 2 of the original 1000 BTC coins remain.

When this happens, people will fill in these set pieces, much the same as a coin collector may try to make an MS-65 set, but have to settle for an MS-55 for a particularly prized piece.

The parallel here will be, damaged and/or redeemed pieces.
For pieces with lower mintage or higher desirability, I expect those premiums to be the highest.

I don't anticipate any of that happening until the market were so mature that collections were more distributed, and there was constant buying tension from people looking to 'perfect' their collections.

interesting..

Does anyone know how to gauge numismatic value of the coins? I mean the unfunded coins, where bitcoins have already been withdrawn from?

E.g. what is the numismatic value of
0.1 BTC Silver
1.0 BTC all Silver
10 BTC all Silver
1000 BTC 1oz Gold?

I'm not so sure I've ever seen an unfunded silver coin for sale. I remember reading on here that Goat wanted $50,000 for an unfunded gold coin.

thanks. interesting.. 50,000 $ sounds a lot, but it is only 1 out of 5. People pay millions for rare coins..
