I have an auction up for the lowest priced coins he made right now -> https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/auction-casascius-2013-brass-halve-graded-ms-65-1072042
Uhm, just in case you didn't know, he also offered some 0.1 BTCs for a while. Probably those are very rare since they came at a hefty premium going at 0.4 BTC or so. Still have a couple of them lying around somewhere Cool

I meant the lowest purchase price not denomination. The tenth coins sell for .9 and up if graded well.

Is there any site (not eBay, the prices are fire!) still selling Casascius coins, with escrow?

Yeah! I think the web address is www.bitcointalk.org.

Ha, seriously, this is the best location to find Casascius coins, reliably. (Although I personally take exception to some of the prices people want, but that's a completely different story and entirely up to the buyer and seller.) I've bought these coins on eBay too, which has worked out well, but you just have to be patient and wait for an auction to come out. The coins that I see on eBay now have been sitting their for a year at their $1000-$2500 price (insane!). There's a reason they haven't sold.

I'll check out the other sites people have listed here, it's always goo to know what other options exist.

Last, have you seen this site -> [url]http://www.spotcoins.com/bitcoin/casascius/url]  It's the best source to gauge mintage of the coins and get a detailed description on each.

Good luck!

They go for a whole lot more than 0.4 now. The most recent sales have been above 1 BTC.
Still too cheap. I guess they're much rarer than the usual 2011 error coins, which should make them at least as expensive (of course, error coins have a much greater demand, but with the 0.1 it's the supply that drives the price). Even if you sell them at a discount for their low face value, that should take them well over a couple BTC. But then again, IDK, people aren't rational when it comes to collectibles.
Anyway, I don't intend to part with mine anytime soon, they're my shiny little preciouses Wink

your best bet is to put up a wanted ad in the forums. I think that theres a lot of the coins have already been sold and distibuted that whoever still has coins to sell might be more cautiously HODLing.

consider the 1BTC Silver+Gold. It sold at a point for about ~1.3BTC/coin from Casascius directly. Over the last 2 years its increased to a 2.5-3.0BTC value

The last distribution of coins was 18 months or more ago.

There are a few places still stocking them but I don't know how up to date they are.

https://www.cryptodechange.com/bullion/  - I bought a silver coin from there. All went well.

If you want escrow you'll have to buy from someone on here.

Anyone have any 2011 series two to sell?

Nubbins has one of them that was graded. You might want to msg him and see if it is still available.

Btw: have you noticed that there is a typo on the coins? The smaller, repeated lettering on the hologram is missing the second 's' and says 'casacius'

Yes I am aware of the typo on the holograms.  Didn't see it until it was too late.  Another batch of holograms is in production with this fixed (and other improvements).

Waaaat? You mean all coins purchased before now are the "rare 2011 casascius with typo" and sell for a much higher price at some point in the future? Nice! Wink How many (will) have the typo?

Nice call way back when molecular.

Hehe, thanks. Who'd have thought they would sell for thousands of dollars way back then, though.

Thanks for digging that up joecooin. Thinking about those days always shows how far we've come since.

Market has been slow for Casascius (including Casacius), as BTC has cooled off...2011 S1 have been selling in the 3-7BTC range depending on grade.  2011 S2 are more likely worth around 2BTC.

Thanks for this wrapup. I'm a bit 'out of the market'. I've wondered when would be the best time to sell one or two 2011 S1s (for BTC) and I've come to the conclusion that it's probably most profitable to sell on ebay during a hype and hope for exaggerated price, then buy bitcoin with the fiat... even with the extreme ebay / paypal fees it could be the best option. What do you think?

That would indeed seem to be the best strategy, and Ebay is a good bridge to the masses.  But selling during hype and hope as you put it, will be the key.  I've seem some beautiful coins go for way below what most would consider respective market value, during down times like we have now.  But if/when BTC rallies back towards previous highs and beyond, I'm guessing the masses will be scrambling to get their hands on whatever BTC they can find, especially given Bitcoin's now more elevated, and to some degree, even mainstream awareness.  I'm further thinking that when the mass influx of outsiders and newcomers do finally buy into BTC (likely precipitated by significant fiat exchange rate increases or some other global catalyst), many will want something physical to hold onto...and while there are many options, Casascius is most certainly the standard in that regard, given its added numismatic value and storied position within the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Seems most of the Casascius collectors around here have rightfully decided to just hold their coins, rather than sell at drastically reduced multiples.  As such, we've generally seen a bit of a stall-out in the number of Casascius transactions taking place.  But much like real estate, these things move in cycles...and at some point, it will be a seller's market again.
