Would be nice if cex could make some deals on hardware and equipment providers in order to reduce their "maintenance costs".

Would be nice indeed. This is exactly what we are working on.

Maybe I should hire a CFO from a liberal arts college in the Ukraine to manage my site.

I think CEX should look into this.

Quote
The SF3301 will be the first 28nm ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) chip on the market that supports mining both SHA-256 and Scrypt at the same time. The company predicts that the device will have a power efficiency below 0.3 J/GH when mining coins that utilize SHA-256, and below 2.0 J/MH when mining those that are based on Scrypt.

I don't think cex use their own miners, actually i know that as they already said they don't earlier in this thread. Though if their partners were to update their equipment it might make mining profitable again

CEX.IO is following the industry news and remains open for partnership with hardware providers.
While we are not buyers of hardware ourselves, we are considering all options out there (including SHA-256/Scrypt ASICs), and, of course, our priority will be given to those providers who own the most efficient equipment.
On the other hand, apart from difficulty and electricity cost, there is also the Bitcoin price which questions the current mining profitability.
Meanwhile, we are staying alert and watching both the news and the price.

I guess with the price dip i am left trading for now until GH/s can mine profitably. My personal equipment still mines fine there, both BTC and the mulitpool.

Hi there,
You are correct.

With our cloud mining, you are paid out in SHA-256 coins, due to our merged mining option. These are BTC, NMC, DVC, and IXC.

There are also 11 Scrypt coins which you can mine in our Multipool (LTC, DOGE, AUR, FTC, ANC, WDC, USDe, MEC, DGB, POT, MYR) with your hardware.

Moreover, we have a X11 pool to mine DRK, but it is limited to DarkCoin only.

Also, regardless of what coins you mine, you can trade a multitude of coins on CEX.IO exchange for BTC or LTC, or the major coins for USD and EUR. On our Trade page, you will see the list of trading pairs.

NMC and DRK are the offerings I like on Cex.io because not many major exchanges offer these, especially DRK.

Is CEX going to mine again when BTC hits and stays above 320?  We're almost there.  I hope CEX lowers the fees.

Also...  Is CEX planning on purchasing new ASICs if ever they decide to start mining again?

As we have already said in this thread, we do not have our own equipment. We partner with hardware providers who rent us their ASICs, and it is their competence to choose the right mining equipment.
However, we are constantly looking for providers who can offer us the newest and most efficient ASICs, and we are currently open for proposals.

We also want to remind everybody that we did not completely suspend our cloud mining services. We have made a switch button allowing every user manually turn on cloud mining whenever they choose to do so.

Meanwhile, we are all watching the Bitcoin price.

Just a suggestion.  Why not CEX payout in multiple coins for GHS holders?  Paying out in LTC, DOGE as a bonus together with BTC could make GHS an attractive investment.

If I'm not mistaken they do pay out in multiple coins. But I think it's only the SHA256 coins (IXC, NMC, ...) and not Scrypt coins (LTC, DOGE, ...).

Correct. I mine on the multipool with my own equipment and get DOGE, LTC, etc. but the cloud GH/s only pay out in the merged SHA-256 coins.

LTC and DOGE could make GHS a more attractive investment though...  NMC is ok.  Don't know about IXC..

Well, bitcoin has been showing some signs of life in the past month or so, a rare occurrence. Any news about the possible resumption of mining at CEX ?

my 5GHs dont mine since 2015-01-12 23:57:26  Huh

Yep if you read through this thread you'll see they turned mining off since it's not profitable with the low rate for btc. There's a switch to turn it back on though

This makes it easier to buy methinks. With the btc price rise it may do me well to start up cloud mining on a limited basis again.

Pretty big news. Are any additional fees involved? Obviously the BTC-USD exchange will be the normal fee and impose the minimums trade amounts.
