Farewell, Leo. You will be missed!
I don't think that there are any rules from which boards those 10 posts should be, but it kinda makes sense that if you are applying for a local board merit source (and some people do that), it kinda makes sense to include mainly posts from that local board, therefore showing that local board is indeed under merited and that it needs more merit sources.
Valid point, but that creates some other limitations.

Shamm already mentioned one - the lack of good local posts that are under merited.
The second one being, most people outside of that local have no idea what the post is saying. If I saw random Pilipino posts, I would have to run them through Google Translate to get a basic understanding. The applicant might not get a lot of support from the Bitcointalk community or they will get "fake support" by those who haven't even checked the posts in question because many people won't bother translating foreign language posts to check whether or not they deserve merits.
Lastly, it gives theymos and anyone else who decides who gets appointed as merit source the same burden and workload.

Someone correct my if I am wrong, but if you are applying to become a merit source, do you have to show 10 under merited posts/threads from your local sub ONLY? A merit source application is supposed to show that you know what a merit-worthy post is supposed to look like. And theymos doesn't select merit sources to distribute merits in specific local boards only. You do it everywhere. With that in mind, find any 10 posts that you believe are merit-worthy but they haven't received enough merits. I feel like that should be enough.

I also remember members making merit source application for other English boards and including only posts from that specific board, like for example NotATether merit source application  for Development & Technical Discussion board.

As you said, theymos wasn't specific from which boards those posts should be so you could just share 10 quality under merited posts and that should be enough, but I guess that people think this way they have better chances of getting it approved.

it's good to have someone from my fellow Filipino to apply as a merit source but I think it's hard to find 10 quality thread from my local because as of now only few quality threads created a few months ago.

Merit source application requirement is not to find 10 quality thread, but to find 10 posts that according to applicant didn't receive enough merit, and there is a big difference between post and a thread. If you actually meant post, and if no one on your board can't find 10 undermerited posts in the last few months, then I guess that you don't really need more merit.

If you want to be a merit source:

 1. Be a somewhat established member.
 2. Collect TEN posts written in the last couple of months by other people that have not received nearly enough merit for how good they are, and post quotes for them all in a new Meta thread. The point of this is to demonstrate your ability to give out merit usefully.
 3. We will take a look at your history and maybe make you a source.

The only one I know but this application was created by  crwth way back in 2018 and bumped last October 29, 2021, which is exactly 1 year at this time and I am not sure but I think there's more application maybe  I'll add it here if I found.
Since his application hasn't been approved for more than four years, I think it might be time for someone else from your local board to consider applying for a merit source status.

Yes, it's been a long time since there's no reply or any reaction about his applications, and also you are right that mate,  it's good to have someone from my fellow Filipino to apply as a merit source but I think it's hard to find 10 quality thread from my local because as of now only few quality threads created a few months ago. After all, as you can see almost a year or more than a year quality threads were created and did not meet the requirements to apply as a merit source. But if Theymos said that he will find some users to become a merits source from my local then that's much better hehehehe just kidding.

But As far as I know  Philippine board has merit source which is cabalism13 when you look at his merits stats only few users got his sMerits but I think due to an conflict of time and I think  he is busy right now because he is finally married that why he can't focus on this forum.
I think that him not being as active as before has to do with all that drama regarding mismanaging charity donation money and somehow I doubt that he will reactivate any time soon.

190 active users in our local boards sound great and fine but as 190 users only few members who share their merits for our fellow countrymen and as we observe many quality posts did not receive merits so  even if thousands of Filipino are here in forum but only few members who are active in our local boards and the on of the reason why is this happen is that the circulation of merits are very low so other Filipino member choose to post in general board.

Do you have any active merit source applications, and if not someone from your board should definitely make one. By the way, while waiting to get one you might wanna start submitting you local board's quality posts to Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source.

Some time ago, the same thing happened to my local board. Of course this caused the merit distribution in the local board to decrease drastically, but thanks to the contributions of several users, both merit source and non-merit source, the merit distribution in my local board increased again. The problem lies in the consciousness of each user.
The most amazing thing is, you have worked to cultivate the seeds of awareness from a number of users to care about post quality. I really appreciate it. In the past, many Indonesian local board users seemed reluctant to participate in the main board because they feeling weak or whatever compared with the contributors. But now this mindset has changed so it is true that there are many improvements in the local board now, I am one of them.

[HELP]Bantuan untuk menaikkan Rank (Newbie s.d Hero) V.2 [UPDATE]

That thread has become the top merited thread on the Indonesian local board at this time and beat a number of other threads with 2144 merit according to the latest data from the Merit Dashboard. Even though you are not the owner of the original idea about the thread, but I think you have managed and made it a top merited thread so far. My thanks for that.

There are lies, damned lies and statistics. MTwain
I’ve taken a look at the top sMerit distributors on the Philippine local board, going as far back as the beginning of last year to get some perspective:

As far as I can see, @cabalism13 was clearly the main source there, but hasn’t awarded ant sMerits there since april 2022. The second and third largest sources there are not local nor persistent, and probably rather targeted in their action (I am). July and August have seem some of the smaller ones stall for whatever reason.

Edit:
Tableau seems to be giving 404 errors with the Vizzes (links to filtered tabs). It that happens, you can go to the tab itself and apply date and board filters accordingly:

Looking at the stats for August, out of 69 active users only 11 sent merit (10 from your local board and one outside) and (unless I am mistaken) it's not that you don't have enough merit sources active in your local board, its that you don't have merit sources active at all. Well, at least not the one that is actually writing in your board.

Your reasoning also makes sense about the low distribution of merit in local board. But you should also understand that there should be no compulsion for anyone to be active in the local board and distribute merit, but if they are willing to do so then I strongly believe it can be considered a good contribution from him.

But when I checked other statistics like the number of posts made so far this year, then I found the fact that the Philippines local board only has 190 active users for 5,596 posts as of January 1, 2022 - September 28, 2022.
I wouldn't call 190 active members in Philippines board during 2022 "only", as its still a pretty decent number that puts them in the top half when compared with other local boards.

This may greatly determine the number of merits of your local board.
Not really, as just last month they shared the 3rd sport with your local board when it comes to number of active members, yet they were almost at the bottom of merit shared chart. What determines the amount of merit shared is primarily amount of active merit sources that you have, which Philippines board seriously lacks at the moment.

Of course, mate. The 190 active users that I mentioned "only" are those who were active during the time span from January 1, 2022 to September 28, 2022. This number of users can still increase considering that this year there are still a few months left.

This may greatly determine the number of merits of your local board.

I agree about the last part of your post, the reasoning is pretty self-explanatory that an active merit source largely determines how much merit is distributed in the local board. But the active participation of other users in this merit circle can also be decisive, so I guess these active users also have a hand as one of the reasons why local board don't have many distributed merit.

Philippine board local statistics so far are quite low, especially about the number of merit distributed per month. But when I checked other statistics like the number of posts made so far this year, then I found the fact that the Philippines local board only has 190 active users for 5,596 posts as of January 1, 2022 - September 28, 2022. Poster for this year January 1, 2022 - September 28, 2022 on the Philippine local board.

In addition to the number of users who appear to be decreasing from month to month, the number of merit distributions and the number of posts is also decreasing.
I can see the comparison on this list. There has been a drop in merit stats, it has fallen by almost 50% since June 2022.

Please do not worry about it unnecessarily because the requirement of at least 1 post in period X is correct from the basic statement Smiley
Nah I won't lose my sleep over it, its just that I am always looking for ways to improve this overview and give a clearer picture of local boards activity and that's why I initially went with the most simple solution of counting everyone that wrote at least one post in a month.

I took the opportunity to add this information in my application topic to the merit source.  Wink

Glad to hear that there is some use for my charts and good luck with your application (even though I don't think that you will need luck but just some patience).

If you are considering adding something like that, I would suggest not making it a high number. 3 or 5 posts should be enough to call a person active on his local.
If I decide to make some changes, I won't even increase the requirement of posts needed but only add another stat, like how many users with more than x posts local boards have.

Rikafip, thank you once again for your efforts with the monthly overview of the local boards activity.
Given that August is the month of  vacations, I expected much worse results, but in the end it didn't turn out so bad  Grin
I was actually on vacation for half of August and completely inactive on the forum, I'm really surprised that I'm so good at local statistics.
Obviously, many others were on vacation, and our local champion didn't even come back from vacation  Grin

Farewell, Leo. You will be missed!
As I mentioned in my overview, I am thinking of ways to somewhat alleviate that issue and give a clearer picture of the amount of more active members and might be implemented in the next month's overview.
I don't think you need to change that. It's OK the way it is. If you were to change that and consider members as "active" if they wrote at least 10 posts in their local boards, you will run into other problems. Although it might work for large subs such as the Russian, where you have thousands of posts each month, it's going to look bad on boards where the total is 100 per month. The stats could then show that the smallest local forums only have 1 or 2 active members.

If you are considering adding something like that, I would suggest not making it a high number. 3 or 5 posts should be enough to call a person active on his local.
