Excellent work Rikaflip.

I was taking a look at your charts, and I am happy that the Portuguese board is becoming one of the biggest local boards in the forum. This is a recent event, as our board used to have less activity.

However, the merit/post ratio there is extremely low compared to other local boards. I was able to visualize that thanks to your charts.

Recently theymos added one more merit source in our local board. I hope things will get better there soon.

Edit:   There is no spam in the Portuguese board. Our ratio should be much higher.

Unfortunately, post number continued to decline after last month's increase, and almost all local boards had decrease. Turkish board remained at the top, followed by the German  and Portuguese. ...

I agree with the suggestion that members from Pakistan also get their local board, based on their contributions and activities on the forum.
Well, they will have to be persistent if they wanna get local board, and unless I am mistaken they already have thread in Meta asking exactly that. Generally, I understand why forum stuff doesn't add new boards easily as there are so many dead/half dead boards already, but I do hope that they are not completely opposed to the idea of making new ones, if there is such a need.

Did you censor the Italian board on purpose on this graph or it is only an error?
It was an attempt to remove one of the most quality local boards in order for my local board to appear higher on the list. Cheesy Joking of course, it was an honest mistake and it's been sorted already, thanks for letting me know. I see that Italian board keeps going strong, 0.63/0.58 is a great merit to post ratio!

Once again, you are a bell ringing: it’s time for my analysis on the Italian board! (And I admit double checking my results against yours).
I have to do the same thing for Croatian board as well, as soon as I catch some time.

Thank you ver much Rikafip for these very interesting statistics.
I would say that not only the number of posts and activities on the forum has been reduced, but also the quality of the posts.
However, we got new local merit sources so if nothing else, all quality and good posts will get well-deserved merits, which has so far been one of the main problems in the non-English sections of the forum.
I agree with the suggestion that members from Pakistan also get their local board, based on their contributions and activities on the forum.

I'm of course surprised that deleting posts from 2018 directly affects the post count of 2021. In fact, there is no negative value in the Russian locale and we go with the Turkish locale almost on a par.
Both @DdmrDdmr and me explained to you how Merit Dashboard counts posts, yet you keep going on month after month with the same thing all over again, like a broken record. I also explained to you why I prefer using Merit Dashboard (and when I gonna change that) over ninjastic.space when it comes to post count, and I stand by my decision. There is no conspiracy against any board, so stop QQing about it. Well, you can go on, but at least I won't have to look at it.

Since I don't wanna go through all this again, and you obviously don't plan to stop with this pestering, you are going on my ignore list. Over and out.

Time has come for yet another monthly overview of the local board activity. Like in all previous overviews, all charts were made sing @DdmrDdmr Merit Dashboard where you can find more details about each local board.

You will notice several communities marked with "*", meaning those are the ones without own local board but I think it's important to include them too. Well, at least those few most active ones that may have some chance of getting their own local board.

Post activity per local board during June 2021

Unfortunately, post number continued to decline after last month's increase, and almost all local boards had decrease. Turkish board remained at the top, followed by the German  and Portuguese. Last month Russian board had so many posts deleted that they ended up in negative, meaning they are missing from this month's chart.

It's nice to see Pakistan community going strong, despite not having their own local board. Looking at their activity for the last couple of months, maybe it's time for another local board which ( AFAIK) hasn't been added for quite some time.

Merit shared per local board during June 2021

During June, only 3588 merits were shared, which is a solid ~9% decrease compared to May 2021. That goes in line with overall forum's all time low when it comes to merit shared. Usual names are at the top of the chart; Russian, German, Italinad and Turkish, and pretty much the same thing can be said about the bottom.

All this merit numbers should look significantly different in the next month overview as theymos introduced 14 new merit sources, and increased monthly allocation to some of the existing ones. By doing so, monthly merit generation increase by ~60% so I am really looking forward seeing how that reflects on local boards.

Merit senders and receivers per local board during June 2021

Pretty much straightforward chart, in which (naturally) more merits shared usually means more people involved, with a few standard exceptions.

Merit/Post ratio per local board for June 2021

And for the end, merit/post chart, that is going to look (hopefully) much better next month. I do hope that some of the new merit sources are from the few local boards that look seriously under merited ( Croatian board got new one yesterday) like Turkish and Pilipinas. Not that some of the others also couldn't use extra merit , but those two looks the most undermerited, given the limited data I have (I don't speak those languages so I can't tell how quality discussions are there).

The most active members during June 2021 per local board

For the end of this monthly overview, I think that it's important to mention the members that are keeping their local board alive. List is made using the data from @TryNinja ninjastic.space

The difference is significant. And the behavior of the graph in the first picture is too unnatural.
Yeah I know about the differences, and I am aware of the numbers on ninjastic.space, I check them every month while making that list of the most active users per local board. I said in one of my previous posts when I gonna start using ninjastic.space for the post count. Until then, plan is to stick with Merit Dashboard. Smiley

Good work as usual.
Thanks!

This reminds me I am late with my own analysis on the Italian local board.
Damn, real life, stop interfering with my posting habits!
Haha, I know the feeling, I also have a very hectic schedule for the last couple of months and its affecting my posting habits as well. I used to wait every first Friday of the month for @DdmrDdmr to update his merit dashboard  so I can start working on this imemdiately, and now it takes me couple of days to make this.

Your analysis of Italian board is extremely detailed and I am sure it takes a lot of time to compile all that, so I am not surprised that you are postponing it, as I am often doing the same for Croatian board, albeit its way less detailed than yours.

Another month is behind us, time to see some local boards numbers!

As always, charts were made using data provided by @DdmrDdmr via his Merit Dashboard, which I suggest you should check if you want more in-depth look at the specific local board.

Communities that are marked with "*" are those without local board, but I think that they deserve mention, at least those most active ones that have some chances getting their own local board in the future.

Post activity per local board during May 2021

After few months of decline, this time local boards have a slight increased total number of posts, from 23391 to 24300, but it is increase nevertheless. No change at the top, Turkish board was the most active one like in previous months, followed by the Russian (which again had high amount of deleted/removed post that affected their total number significantly) and German boards.

It's nice to see that Portuguese board is increasing activity month after month, and same can be said about two communities without local board, Nigerian and especially Pakistan that are having very solid numbers as well, given the difficulty of writing everything in the same thread. Might be the time for forum staff to consider adding few more local boards and help those communities to further develop.

Merit shared per local board during May 2021

Despite the increase in posting activity, total amount of merits shared on local boards went down, from 4303 during April to 3929 in May, which is ~9% decrease. Majority of  boards had more or less similar numbers like in April, with Russian board at the top like in previous months, while German board had pretty significant decrease for such a big board. Something weird is happening with Pilipinas board too, as they had only 20 merits shared, which is very low for their post amount.

Among boards that increased amount of merits shared, Nigerian board sticks out. While in April they shared only 2 merits, last month it went up to 69 merits.

Merit senders/receivers per local board during May 2021

Another self explanatory chart, just to show amount of members that are part of the each board's merit activity. Naturally, more merit usually means more members involved, but there are are always few boards that have very big "merit network", relative to the amount of merit that they shared.

Merit/Post ratio per local board for May 2021

Last but not the least in this series of charts, merit/post ratio chart. Usual names are at the top, and same can be same about the bottom. Maybe its time for some boards to get more merit sources.

If we take into account the cases with the deletion of old posts, then I have a question, why take into account old posts and topics when it comes to the number of posts for a specific fresh month. Your statistics do not reflect monthly activity, they simply calculate the average between what was and what is. And shows the result. If the moderators try, then I will not be surprised that we can see in your statistics something like: 100 posts per month were published in the Russian locale.
Even though I already explained why I prefer Merit Dashboard when making these charts, here it is again. And yeah, that's why I sometimes mention that numbers might be affected by the deleted posts, like I did in the last overview when I said exactly that for Russian board.

I had the same dilemma few months ago when I started using ninjastic space and I also noticed the difference in numbers compared to merit dashboard. Thing with ninjastic.space (that I didn't know but DdmrDdmr explained it to me) is that is also counting all those posts that were for some reason deleted from the board, and that's why number is usually inflated compared to numbers found in merit dashboard. For example, if you had some spammer who wrote 20 posts in Indonesian board during March, and his account got nuked and all posts deleted, his posts will still be counted even though they are not there anymore.

With that being said, numbers on merit dashboard can also be wrong in case that mod deletes/moves threads around, but I decided to stick to merit dashboard numbers in the end as it doesn't seem right to count spam posts that have been deleted for days or even weeks.

So, in the end neither Merit Dashboard and ninjastic.space are 100% correct, and some weird results will happen, but I decided to stick with the former when making those charts as I prefer occasional odd results due high amount of deleted posts over inflated numbers. To get clearer picture of board activity, best is to use both of them.

I will start using ninjastic.space  (which is an awesome tool ) for the post chart when/if deleted posts get excluded from the count. As simple as that.

That is, you want to say that the moderators suddenly began to delete half of what is published there? The difference in calculations is 3-8 times different.
As I said before, topics moved/deleted don't have to be new ones to affect post count difference, inactive old topic from few years ago that got moved will affect numbers. My assumption that such a big difference is probably caused by mods work is based upon previous experience in similar situations.

Year ago, while working on one of these overviews, I noticed that Arabic board ended up month in negative of ~200 posts. Since i was relatively new to Merit Dashboard and didn't really know how it works but kinda wanted to figure out what happened there, I contacted one of their active members asking can he maybe explain the situation. He contacted their mod who eventually contacted me, explaining that he indeed did some cleaning and moved/deleted some topics, causing this anomaly. Similar thing happened to Croatian board 6 months ago when we got few new child boards so bunch of topics were moved around and  merit dashboard showed us having 1/3 of the posts that were actually written during that period.

If you really want get to the bottom of this, I suggest that you ask your mods about it, and if they really confirm that they haven't moved anything around, that would leave us with some glitch affecting Russian local board numbers.

legendary
Activity: 1722
Merit: 5937
There are no large new topics in this section for a long time, this is the smallest section of the locale. A moderator will never delete a huge thread. It will either be transferred to another section of the locale or taken to the Archives. There are no major topics from this section in the archive, which means that all topics are in place.
Topic deleted/removed doesn't have to be new one in order to affect monthly post count in Merit Dashboard. Let' say that you wrote 300 new posts in "Oбcyждeниe Bitcoin" during April 2021, but in the same time some old topic got removed/deleted which had 3300 posts, meaning that total difference will be -3000, and will affect numbers significantly. These things happen with pretty much every board occasionally, and with Russian board for the last couple of months.

And if you look at the diagram for counting the number of posts that I made, you can see that the counting algorithm broke about six months ago and began to show incorrect data for the Russian locale:
Yep, from November 2020 and up until now Russian board numbers went down, but I don't think that its due broken algorithm, but deleted topics/posts. Best is probably to ask your local mods what is going on, did they delete or move some stuff around.

And I wouldn't have focused on it if this broken data wasn't misleading. Because of this data, discussions about the death of the locale began to take place in my locale, and people began to speculate about what caused such a sharp drop in activity among posters. But in fact, there is no sharp decline and there was not. Just crooked counting algorithms that sowed the panic. Undecided
Yeah I am aware of the fact that people don't look in depth what is going on but rather just look at the chart and immediately draw conclusions. I try to mention in every monthly overview that they should check a bit more thorough to get the clear picture of the real situation, as this is more intended to be a brief overview, and not too detailed one, as I want to keep it simple in order to not bore people too much.

I don't know if anyone is doing that in Russian local board, but it wouldn't be a bad idea if someone makes detailed monthly overview of your board, like I am doing for mine, and some others for theirs. Great example of detailed overview is  this one made by @fillippone for Italian local board. It might help clear the situation and calm people down.

There are lies, damned lies and statistics. MTwain
The number of net post on the local Russian board, shown on the above charts, is consistent with the Merit Dashboard. The latter, in turn, derives the data from the forum stats on the last day of each month, being the last two readings obtained from here:

(31/03/2021) https://web.archive.org/web/20210331174739/https://bitcointalk.org/index.php
(30/04/2021) https://web.archive.org/web/20210430192936/https://bitcointalk.org/index.php

As pointed out, forum stats seemingly show net posts: created – deleted – moved, so post deletions and threads that get moved after a data snapshot will affect the data shown on the forum stats, and therefore, on all those derived from it.

Being that so, it is sometimes wiser to follow the evolution of the forum stats in the big picture, seeing the trend overtime:

https://public.tableau.com/shared/PYRXY6MH6?:display_count=y&:origin=viz_share_link

Nevertheless, looking at the detail in above data, at least 3k posts were deleted (some possibly moved) from the Oбcyждeниe Bitcoin section, which probably is the root cause of the intermonth post count fall.

Edit: Forum reindexing could sometimes readjust the count tolls (not saying its the case)

Lol, what? Rikafip, by what data did you get this number of 1787 posts in the ru-locale for a month?
If you read my post carefully, you would notice that source of my data is @DdmrDdmr Merit Dashboard. Its literally the 2nd sentence of the post, right there at the top.

I am perfectly aware of the differences between numbers shown in Merit Dashboard and ninjastic.space and I talked about it before in this topic. Those two tools have 2 different ways to calculate post count; Merit Dashboard takes into account difference in post numbers, while ninjastic.space counts all posts written, and in total amount includes even posts that are not there anymore and were deleted, so that tool can also be misleading.

Hi rikafip, the number of Indonesian local board post recorded on the merit dashboard is less than that recorded on ninjastic.space. I would like to know which one is more accurate to display on the chart ?
If the data in the merit dashboard is more accurate than ninjastic.space then I'll update my thread with data that might appear to be in sync with your thread.
I had the same dilemma few months ago when I started using ninjastic space and I also noticed the difference in numbers compared to merit dashboard. Thing with ninjastic.space (that I didn't know but Ddmr Ddmr explained it to me) is that is also counting all those posts that were for some reason deleted from the board, and that's why number is usually inflated compared to numbers found in merit dashboard.

Now, as I mentioned that in my post (and many times before in this topic), post number shown in Merit Dashboard is heavily affected when there is some big clean up by local mods, like it was case in Russian board for the last couple of months. As seen in Merit Dashboard, in the board called "Oбcyждeниe Bitcoin" there was negative difference of 3094 posts, meaning one of your mods probably deleted whole topics, that lead to this huge difference, and skewed numbers. And I even mentioned that in the post you quoted, as seen below

I must say that it is surprise to see Russian board with such a low numbers. I did notice that they had huge amount of posts deleted  last month, so part of the reason for their low numbers is probably that

Who has an opinion why the Russian section, which has always been the most active and was the leader in terms of the number of posts, decreased by almost 7.7 times in 1 year?
I am thinking about this question and cannot answer it. Agree that this is a very large drop in activity.

Excellent analysis of Rikafip, as always  Cheesy
I think that a small drop in the number of active members, and in the number of quality topics and discussions can be seen throughout the forum.
Maybe the forum is losing the battle with other ways of communication, discord, telegram etc?
Also, since I'm active in the Croatian part of the forum, it seems that our results, post activity and Merit/Post ratio shows that we need at least one more merit source in our local board.

Time has come for yet another monthly overview of the local boards activity!

All charts were made using the data data provided by @DdmrDdmr via his Merit Dashboard, which I suggest you should check if you want more in-depth look at the specific local board.

Communities that have  "*" tag next to their name are those without local board.

Post activity per local board during April 2021

Despite the ongoing bull run, slight decline in posting activity continues yet another month. Decrease is not significant (approximately 2-3 %), but its there, and is pretty much constant.

No changes at the top when we look at the chart, Turkish board remains by far the mpst active one, followed by German. I must say that it is surprise to see Russian board with such a low numbers. I did notice that they had huge amount of posts deleted  last month, so part of the reason for their low numbers is probably that. Portuguese board keeps growing month after month, and they have respectable numbers now.

It is also worth to mention Pakistan community that has very solid numbers, despite the fact that they don't have their own local board yet. If they keep being active for longer period of time, who knows, maybe they get their own local board in the end.

Merit shared per local board during April 2021

The slight decrease of post amount didn't cause merit decrease too. On the contrary, number of merit shared increased a little bit, from 269 during March to 4303 during April. At top are pretty much standard names; Russian, followed by German and Turkish. Biggest winner this month was obviously German board, with almost ~35%, which is a lot because they generally have very high amount of merit shared.

Boards that had biggest decrease are French with 40 % and Indonesian with whopping 63 % decrease. Hopefully that's just temporary, as these things happen and merit numbers tend to fluctuate a lot in majority of boards.

Merit senders/receivers per local board during April 2021

Pretty straightforward chart whose goal is to show how  how many members of each local board are part of the merit system. Boards are sorted by the amount of merit shared during April.

Merit/Post ratio per local board for April 2021

As always, this chart changes a lot each month, but one constant is Arabic board at the top. Some big boards like German and Russian had a big change of ratio compared to March, due different reasons. Since many things can affect ratio, this chart doesn't really give a clear picture whether some board is undermerited or overmerited, but as we can see from the 12 months/April numbers, majority of boards had pretty much similar numbers to their yearly average so it can indicate something.

Thanks rikafip, although we can still find deleted post but it doesn't seem good to count deleted post to show in the chart. I will probably update the chart in my thread soon. I also decided to use the merit dashboard to get the monthly local Indonesian board posting from now.
Well, those deleted posts ain't there anymore at the time i am making these overview so it would be  wrong to include them into statistic, as simple as that. Thing is, some boards are affected with this more than the others. For example, Croatian local board doesn't have much spam/nuked users so our numbers are usually similar in both of those tools, unless there is something going on, like threads being moved around, which can cause the issue for some reason.

With that being said, numbers on merit dashboard can also be wrong in case that mod deletes/moves threads around, but I decided to stick to merit dashboard numbers in the end as it doesn't seem right to count spam posts that have been deleted for days or even weeks.
