I had no idea that Russia banned Bitcointalk. When did it happen? Was it in response to the war in Ukraine, or is it because of their attitude towards Bitcoin?

It happened almost 2 years ago, on March 25th 2020 and it seems that the main reason was gambling promotion, more precisely Bitstarz casino scamming people. They basically banned the whole forum over one topic. You can find more info in this thread.
So every Russian on the forum uses VPN or Tor to access the forum? Or has the ban been lifted?

The only thing that never changes is the question of the champion in the number of posts on the Croatian part of the forum  Grin
Haha yeah, our numbers would be much lower if it weren't for him. Then again, almost every local board has its own slackovic that is way more active than everyone else.Cheesy
Lol. The Nigeria board has Charles-Tim, who hasn't been defeated in either weekly or monthly stats for a year and a half now, and he's the reason our local corner is still very active.

The word idiots comes to mind when I remember that situation and reason why the forum got banned in Russia. They should ban Hotmail and Yahoo as well because that hot girl who emails you that she is in your neighborhood and wants sex, is not there at all. Those boner pills don't work either. Another reason why those two providers should be restricted.

Let's just hope slackovic doesn't start slacking and posting less than he commonly does.

What I meant is that if ever Italy were to suppress civil rights as Russia did, banning access to many legitimate websites, I can’t see italian user base increasing.

But I might be really wrong here, as is exactly when government deprives you from liberty when you start appreciating it much, and you fight back for it, with every available item, VPN’s and bitcoin included.

Yes. Forbidden fruit is always the sweetest! At least that's what they say ...  Wink

Yes, I understand what you mean but so far I feel happy because the government of my country is very supportive of bitcoin especially if it is used as a trading and investment asset. In contrast, the government prohibits all activities and transactions of bitcoin as a means of payment. This regulation will continue to benefit users, but may still change if the government detects excessive abuse in the future such as high rates of money laundering by officials or others.

The Indonesian user base on bitcointalk is still high and will probably continue to grow regardless of its underlying purpose. But first, I hope you will fix your quote.  Wink

I have too a bad feeling about italian board going trough a VPN!
How is it possible, is Italy doing the same with Russia? I'm not sure that's true, but last month there were only 60 active posters on Italian boards or about 55% of active posters on Indonesian local boards.

It's true, Russia banned access to bitcointalk some time ago so every user coming from there has to use VPN in order to access it. That makes their numbers even more impressive and I wonder how many people from my country (Croatia) would bother going through hassle like that just to access the forum.
Of course it will affect some users who are not used to accessing forums using a VPN or TOR, but if they really like forums then they will definitely look for solutions so they can continue their activities as usual. But in my opinion, it's not only because of restriction or bans that the user base is down but I have seen quite a lot of decrease in active users during 2018 to 2020 due to thousands of failed altcoin projects.

Rikafip, your monthly analysis is really interesting and informative every time, thank you for your effort and time.
I didn’t expect the drop in the number of posts to be that big.
It seems that in your analysis we can see another confirmation of the long-term trend of declining activity and the number of active members.

I guess I can say they are true lovers of the Bitcointalk community. They are still in the community even it's banned in their country. A few weeks ago I was talking with my Russian friend and said I have reached Sr. member rank On Bitcointalk. He said, "Congratulations bro! But, I cannot access Bitcointalk anymore. He doesn't bother to use VPN just to access Bitcointalk. So, I assume those peoples are true Bitcointalk Lovers and that's why they are still here.

BTW, Congratulations Rikafip for achieving 3000 Merits!
Long way to go. Good luck!

AFAIK, Russia has long put bitcointalk on the ban list which might cause a bit of annoyance for users. But I really appreciate their efforts to keep users active in this forum with a number of posts, active users and also merit distribution even though I assume that users there should use a vpn. They are impressive in my opinion

I know. It’s a difficult balance between quantity of information, noise/signal ratio and audience attention span.
True, people are too lazy to read, I know a few people that have very decent BTC bag yet they couldn't even bother to read Bitcoin whitepaper. Says a lot about the time we are living in. Regarding extra the charts, we can look the other way: why not add moreif people are asking for it as that means that there is an interest for those. So yeah, might keep adding charts as long as they make sense and can help provide clearer picture of what's going on in local boards.

After many months writing lengthy meta report for the italian section, I am not sure I am mastering this art.
Keep it up, your reports are amazing! As a matter of fact I read them every month (via Google translate) even though I am not active in your board nor I speak Italian so that says a lot. I considered being as detailed as you are for my local board but I think that I am too lazy for something like that.  Cheesy

And I have to congratulate him after I managed to fulfill 3000 merit in his current profile.
Cheers bud!

I will definitely think about your suggestions, but my concern is that if I make too many charts people will get bored to even ( I am sure that some are annoyed with these charts already) check it. Thats one of the reasons why I am trying to keep those texts above each chart short as I don't wanna bore people more than I am already doing. After all, it was intended to be "brief"overview and as we can see it grow bigger compared to the first few.

Regarding your addition, it is great. Of course the next logical step is to provide a ratio of merited users/total users  or merits/total users.
Endless permutations, and graph to be added, are almost infinite!

Compared to January, the number of merit distributed in February at the Local Indonesian Board decreased slightly but was still above 500+. That's pretty good and I hope we can keep that number for longer.
Given the fact that huge majority of other threads had noticeable decrease in the amount of merit shared, you did quite good. Keep it up!

Crypto_Snack and Elvenland although ninjastic,space/ mentions them with 10 and 8 posts respectively, it was like that, but the first is Nuke status and the second nick has 26 deleted posts, of which 5 belonged to LE, this  verified via bpip.org.

For current purposes, Elvenland would only have 3 posts. It is something that happens, but at least to make it clear for statistical purposes (LE). Anyway, things that one can discover thanks to its update.
Thanks for the heads up, and unfortunately these things will happen. Problem is that ninjastic.space counts all posts written in certain period, even deleted ones and that's the main reason I was reluctant to use that tool for making post charts and was preferring to use Merit Dashboard as I knew it will give somewhat inflated numbers.

They only way to alleviate this issue is if I checked each and every user on every board and then do the calculation manually, but of course I am not that crazy. So yeah, we will have to live with it, as no tools that I have at my disposal for counting posts is 100% correct.

By the way, I haven't finished the update for February and I'm late than usual but it's very likely for me to get it done in the coming days. Rikafip, as always this is a great job from you.  Wink

Last but not the least, list of the most active members in 18 local boards (to be more precise 15 local boards + 3 communities that still dont have their own). Once again @joker_josue is the most active member, even though I remember him saying month ago that he doesn't think he will keep his title this month.

It's true, by chance I wasn't expecting to have been so active in February. This time even I was surprised. Roll Eyes

But, almost certainly the month of March will not be first. I've been a little more absent... With the rotation of some projects, which were on pause because of Covid, there is less time to be here.

This one surprised us a little bit.  Wink
Haha yeah, I knew it will. As a matter of fact, each month I start making the overview around the same time (beginning-middle of the month) but then I get distracted with RL stuff (and add some laziness on top of that) so in the end I publish it much later than I intended to. This timenothing got in my way so I was able to finish it sonner than everyone (including me) expected.

Adding to that, it might also be a good idea to include a Post/User ratio chart as well, similar to how you display the "Merit/Post ratio per local board" chart. It would provide additional insight into local board activities.
Good idea, gonna create that one too then. Might as well add it to this month's overview as I have very light work schedule today.

fillippone is a bad person, it is very evil not to pay attention to him, he is aiming to convert the republic into an empire and calls himself palpatine
ahahaha
You might be surprised, but I am also a fan of the dark side. I guess great minds really do think alike haha.  If you think about it a little bit better, rebels are the bad guys there so I am not surprised that he wants to bring some order into the chaos. Cheesy

BTW, You may want to edit this one:
Thanks buddy, it has been sorted!

Thank you so much Rikafip for your amazing efforts. Using your graphs and statistics I was able to compile a Yearly Summary for our Pakistan Board Thread  for the year 2021 and we were also able to distribute some prize money for our quality posters to top 3 members of our thread. That was a small efforts for our local community to encourage quality posters and we (me and irfan_pak10) collectively distributed to each member $30 (20 BNB + 10 USDT). This was all possible using your monthly statistic. One again thank you for sharing these statistics.
That's actually a great idea, that you and @irfan_pak10 organized and provided an incentive for your members ro keep wiritng quality and helpful posts. Keep up the good work so hopefully you end up getting your own local board which you and few others IMHO deserve, based on the amount of posts and active members.

Contrary to popular belief (*looking at fillippone*  Grin), I am capable of releasing the local board overview in a reasonable time frame, so here it is!

Indeed!
Posting on the first half of the month is an incredible feat, don’t worry!

I am going to add your graph to my report.

Number of posters per local board during February 2022

Even though I 've been doing these local boards overview for two years now, I never really bothered to check how many users each board has and how they compare to each other. Well, at least not until few days ago so I've decided to add another chart that shows exactly that.

Keep in mind that this is a first version and I included all members that wrote at least one post during the before mentioned period. I might in the future adjust it a bit; either set some higher threshold like 5-10 posts or maybe make a little bit different chart with the several brackets for each board (e.g below 10 posts, 11-100, over 100 posts etc) so we get better idea  how many active user each board actually has.

Meanwhile this new graph is really a great addition to your statistics it will help us to understand how many unique users we have. Also I agree to your suggestion of adding some threshold of 5-10 posts, this will be better and will automatically excluded random visitors. Actually consistent posters are the one who are actually helping local communities.
