Just in case nobody posted this yet regarding the random restarts/hangs due to the spikes

I'm using AcBel R88 1100w and it's already 4 years old. I've been using it since the litecoin mining days of my 7950s and r9 290s.

Here are the things I did:
1. Distributed the load across the 12v rails. (If your gpu needs 2 PCIe Power connectors 8pin or 6pin.)
2. Added capacitors in the 12v PCIe power near the GPU. (I placed 3300uf 16v capacitors on the pcie cables near the PCIe connectors. I didn't need to splice the cable, I just tucked it in the back of the pcie cable making sure that it reaches the 12v(yellow) and negative wires(black).)
3. Clean the PSUs to reduce the temps to avoid triggering thermal protection.

If it stops the random restarts, good for you. It means that your PSU could actually handle the load. If it doesn't, then your PSU probably has other components that are at fault.

After doing these, I was able to eliminate the random restarts and it also allowed me to OC my GPUs again without problems.

YMMV.

hey guys, how can I report to the development team?
I have a XFX HD7990 video card. are working perfect in Claymore's Zcash AMD GPU Miner V11.1 (Windows 10 64bit), It gets speed about 259 h/s on GPU 0 and 1, total about 520 h/s. But in the GPU miner V12 are all not working on my video car, GPU 0 get 0 h/s and GPU 1  less 100 h/s. I have been change the different radeon drive V15, V16, V17 still not working.

MY another 2 video card HD7950 are working perfect in GPU miner V12 and get 280 h/s in over core clock 1100mhz.

please help my HD7990 fly up in V12

thanks,
I have working 7990 (=600s/s) with stock on 12.3 with -i 3. Driver 15.12. In case you modded memory try to return to original bios.

Thanks -i 3 worked. now get 290 h/s on GPU 0,1.  try before -i 4 or 5 having problems

Is that 290 h/s for one card?

290 is for one core of the card. A 7990 does ~600 H/s.

I had a similar issue with the 7990, to keep it worked I had to reduce intensity, I was using win 7, but it disappeared when I switched to win 10.

It seems that the 7990 is much better than the RX 470 or 480.

It's also at least 3x the cost and probably 2x the power usage lol.

The cost for a second hand 7990 (you can't find new anymore) is the same like a Rx 480 new and power usage for zec mining is ~300 W undervolted.

Question:  how to make it undervolted? Is it in the radeon setting and what's your parameter?

Use MSI afterburner and go to settings and unlock voltage settings. After you have a stable card you can place those settings on the config file.
Thanks a lot and I will try it later. one more thing what version Radeon driver are you using? V15, V16 or V17

Older video cards use 15.12. newer like the RX use the latest unless you are modfing the bios where the latest you can go is 16.9 I believe

Don't you have to modify the driver files if you go to 16.9 with modified bios on Rx?

I can be mistaken with the version that still allowed unsigned bios

Hi Guys,

Looking to buy a couple more GPU's.  Power is not an issue thus I am simply looking for the best value.  I can get second user 7970's for about £70 or 290x's for around £110.  I guess its best to go for the 290x's?

thanks
dd

Newegg has fury x for 253 dollars. If you buy 290x run them at a target temperature of 87 celcius to keep the fan noise down. They are designed for 95 celcius so 87 is not a problem.

For some reason I am having a ton of issues with MSI 390x on 11.x-12.3
I keep getting crashes and error messages about the 'GPU blocked from receiving data' in windows and 'returned faulty data' in miner. No idea why. 15.12 drivers, Win 10 x64

links to mod bios please...have two 7950's one I can lower voltage ...one I cannot.

You can use the VBE7.0.0.7b.exe to change the voltage.

Good Morning people.
I have a problem with Claymore, He starts work is fine, but later he crash and freezing all the Rig. Install windows again, download a new version of Claymore and stay the same.

Need help.

claymore miner issue fixes:

  - read the "readme.txt" for other settings
  - make sure you are using the right drivers
  - watch and play with your overclocks
  - look at your "-i" options, make sure your intensity is not too high

other issues: (getting into GPU mining has a prerequisite which is you should know how to troubleshoot OS and PC hardware) -> i believe this is not claymore's problem anymore

 - riser issues
 - PSU issues
 - motherboard issues
 - GPU issues
 - HDD issues
 - RAM issues
 - temperature issues

yesterday one of my rig freezes and windows crashed after mining started for a few seconds...it was a HDD bad sector issue.. find the source of problem, you can do it.

good post

i mix and match quite a bit and even have risers from when the first came out (never the ribbons tho)

first always check the riser and power supplies, that sata connection is dead important not to have too much load on a single line

if claymores software encounters an issue then it will be in the logs.... start with one card and test over 12/24 hrs, adding one more card at a time, might also be good to clean up drivers and reg entries using DDU

was having a few windows issues recently as well, tried loads of things to fix it and to my surprise all it needed was a rollback using system restore settings, perfect after 3/4 hrs reinstalling and testing lol

i have my 80gb HDDs cloned, any HDD issue I encounter, I just unplug the problematic HDD and plug a clone.

the problematic HDD will go through a file system test and bad sector test (results will determine if it will be reused or trashed), if windows is unstable due to corruption of files etc..it will be overwritten by a clone...my HDDs clone each other, as long as the good HDD is always the source.

my last windows 7 64bit installation for my mining rigs was in 2013..cloning saves time and utilizes a proven windows setup.

always have extra risers, PSUs, HDDs, RAMs etc...having identical motherboards in your rigs is a plus too.

awesome mining advice!

back in 2012/13 i was using USB and Linuxs, no HDD's what-so-ever!

quick tip if miners wanna save some cash on spare HDD's, find people giving away old sky+ boxes or any media items that can record and play TV, they all have a HDD in them u can plug out!

Also if you are in the US go to Craigslist. Just bought a laptop 320 gig drive for $5. Craigslist is also great to buy older video cards, memory, motherboards etc

My gygabyte 7950 does 320, while the MSI does about 285 and get all upset with any overclocking

What does ZEC mining use on the video card? Memory or the GPU? I have my memory OC'ed to 2150 on my RX 480's but that does not seem to have helped, and GPU is at 1288.
Only getting about 290 H/s per card right now and that seems a bit low. New driver 17.3.1

Claymore can u tell me more about this?

I occasionally get a random card telling me that same thing "returned incorrect data!" in red text.  It's only ever a single line/return of that.  Nothing bad seems to result and mining continues as normal (as far as I can tell).

When I get that, I will reduce the clock frequency, then it will disappear.
