Hey guys, wondering what you guys were getting on Claymore 9.1 with the following cards...

And also RX 470 4GB and 8GB...

I guess what I'm asking is, what is the best price/performance of the current AMD cards? The main issue is I'm not seeing any consistency in the numbers, so it's hard to really calculate price/performance when people's numbers are all over the place. Sad

 Pair of Sapphire RX470 4GB blower-style 406+ Sol/s (one at 202 one at 206), 1250/1750 and +10 power limit.
Win 7, I don't remember offhand if that box has 16.9.2 or 16.10.1 (I've done some playing with both, and count them as equal for the most part for mining).

16.12.1 drivers show a 5-10% hashrate DROP vs. 16.9.2 or 16.10.1 (or vs. 15.12 on my HD-series and R9 series cards).

IMO 16.10.1 (most recent WQHL version) should probably be the "go to" version for the RX 480 and 470, and is a viable option vs. 15.12 for older card rigs that might want upgrades at some point.

Just FYI: with Sapphire "ref" RX470 4GB cards I get 202-206sols/s using WattTool with 1200Mhz+1000mV GPU and 1750Mhz+950mV memory settings and -5x6.25mV voltage offset. Heat and wattage reduced significantly. I use 16.10.3 driver, Win10 OS, CZM 9.1 (-i 6) and all cards are connected with powered riser (6 GPUs/rig). You don't need to overclock the 470 to get 202-206sols/s.

Hi,

Is it possible to have and r9 290 and a RX480 in the same computer?

regards,
eric

yes, and i am using 4 diffrent cards in same MOBO

I thought I was bad enough on one of my rigs with 3 different cards and an APU....

Yes, you can make it work - but it works a lot better as a general rule to at least stay within the same generation, tends to be a more stable machine and a lot less troubleshooting involved.

Dang... 370 Sols/s on a GTX 1070.. I know they are $400.. but wow.  Hope Claymore can come through on the next update and get us something close! Keep up the good work!

I suspect you have to do some major overclock or have a version of the 1070 that has the "good" ram (like the ones some folks reported getting 32+ ETH Mh/s on) to achieve 370.

Best I've seen so far is 345 on my pair of Gigabytes that have the "higher than stock" TDP limit and very high factory overclock, most of my 1070s are getting around 330.

Down side is that they're eating 140-150 watts to achieve those sol/2 - but in one of my early tests I dropped one of the "slow" cards down to 60% tdp (108 watts) with a mild core underclock and still got right about 300 sol/s. I suspect further tweeking could better that effficiency.

Down side is, of course, the *ballpark* $400 pricing (I've paid less for most of my 1070s through buying what was on sale that month, but not a LOT less) vs the $332 I paid for my pair of Sapphire RX 470s that hash at 406 sol/s but are eating ballpark over 200 watts for the pair (closer to 250 I think, but they're set for max sol/s not for optimising efficiency and I can't meter them specifically as I've got a third non-RX card in the system).

Do keep in mind that NONE of these cards are modded - stock out of the box the only thing done to them is to adjust clocks TDP AND THE BLOODY FAN CURVE TO KEEP THEM COOL via Afterburner.

Oddly enough, some of the 1070s are the "recalled due to potential fail" EVGA models - but if you turn the fan curve up to something sane instead of the factory "keep them QUIET" that EVGA went a little more overboard on than most recent cards do, they stay plenty cool.

Hi all
Before v 9.0 all we jump to refresh button in this thread but now and after low zec price as you see when we jump to Ether again or any profitable currency?

Seems like Zcash is still way more profitable. Well, at least most of us will break even, at the very least anyway... Not sure what you mean?

Depends on the hardware and your electric price and current ZEC vs ETH price - right now ZEC is more profitable for most of my gear but it's close enough on some of my rigs I've not bothered trying to move all of them over.

NVidia 1070s though zec via NiceHash is a LOT more profitable - 28-29 MHs ETH vs 330-345 sol/s n my assorted 1070s is a VERY nice jump on the ZEC side.

Hello guys,
I have a problem when mining. I am using Claymore miner and 6 RX 480 GPUs.
My problem is, there will be 1 GPU not recognized or something like that.
Let's make an example like: when I have 6 GPUs, GPU 3 will be mining at 0 H/s, and the console says: "GPU 3 hangs when OpenCL calls, exit".
when I have 5 GPUs, one of them will behave the same, which means, GPU x will be mining at 0 H/s, "GPU x hangs when OpenCL calls, exit".
I follow all the settings, put in necessary command lines, etc.
I used to reboot until my rig let all the GPUs work, but now that way is not working anymore.
Please help.

well there are various things to try/check....

first let us know what components you are using (mobo, ram, PSU, CPU, Win7/8/10) and what settings for the GPU (OC, voltage??)

from the first shoot i would gues low virtual mem (have to be 16gb min.) or too much OC/undervolt ( as many wrote that this is the main problem by the "hanging" of the GPU)..

I forgot about my components:
Mobo: Biostar TB85
CPU: Intel Celeron G1840 2.8Ghz
PSU: 2 x 750W
OS: window 10 enterprise

About paging memory, I first tried to set it up to 16GB, but now I set it to even 30~40GB, still no help, and I dont even OC it.

well i would gues:

1, try to change the gpu 3 (the GPU which is hanging and loosing the hash rate to 0h/s) to the main port and plug the monitor to it, or use an dummy plug...

2, bad GPU riser (hope you are powering the risers with the molex directly to the PSU, the sata cables are dangerous and it doesnt deliver enough power to the riser which could cause the hanging..)

3, something wrong with the GPU... I would try to set up the rig with 1 gpu, if it works then add next one and try with 2 GPUs, if it works then add next one and try it with 3 until you find out which one is causing
the problem.. It will take some time, but this way you can see with how much GPUs max is your rig running normal, where is the limit...)

4, dont know the mobo - so maybee it is not able to handle 6 GPUs (really dont know, try to search if some1 experienced to get it work, the mobo, with 6 gpus)

dont have any amd RX, but check also here on forum what driver to use, as im using the 15.12 driver but this one is not the right one for the RX GPUs...

Hope it helps.... GL

Thank you for your advice,
Anything related to physical touch up, like, try another riser, switch GPU, plug 1 by 1, etc, I tried them all.
About GPU, I dont think that the GPU problem. You know, it's not about GPU 3 or the power, my case is like I described before
When I plug 6 GPUs in, GPU 3 will hang.
When I plug 5 GPUs in, GPU x will hang.
There will be always 1 GPU hanging, no matter how many GPUs I plug in.

always same port? maybee the port on the mobo is bad... (if it is the same port..)
No, when I have 5 GPUs in, that means I take that GPU 3 out, just left 5 on the rig, at that time, another GPU will hang.

ok i did a small research, obviusly you are not the only one with this problem.

Most ppl had the problem when it was OC, but you said you are using stock settings....

Next if the GPU hangs is there any change in the device manager? Are all 6 GPUs recognized by the system and device manager?

Also did you tryied the 6 gpu setting, and after it hangs put a dummy or a monitor to the "hanged" gpu? does it changed after miner restart?
Yes, Im using stock settings, Device manager show all 6 GPUs are recognized.
eh, about the tried 6 GPus setting, put dummy or a monitor things, I dont have those kind of things to monitor GPU. Im using MSI afterburner to take care of fan speed, but I thought mb it is the reason, I tried to turn off the Afterburner, but no help.
hopely this will help you, if all your hardware don't have a problem from PSU,cable, and riser, instal the lastest driver ( in my experience for multiple GPU wait until finish all instal the driver), restart, and run MAB set default for all setting accept fan speed as you needed at your temp room, and then run claymore v.9.1. If still get hang try setting your intensity one by one from 5, 6,7 or 8.

I'm not going to start a new thread for this because a large number of people view THIS thread. Circle has apparently joined with Coinbase, which are outright scammers, and now force you to instantly convert BTC entering your account. In the past they were several dollars per BTC more than any other exchange, but now they pay less than Coinbase and make it very difficult to determine the actual  forced sale price.

I was a Circle advocate, but now..........beware.

smod claymore does great job its not cool what u are doing

i agree. smod you should publish your work for free.

I would if Claymore made his "devfee" optional or atleast a one time payment like a normal software stack developer. I know he does a great job, I don't disagree.

Claymore has made 500 zcash since Oct 28th. This may include his personal farm as he accounts for 3.5% of flypool hashrate. yes he is the top miner there and easy to follow.

Dwarfpool now pool speed is 2 127 405sol

lets see...

2 127 405sol       / 10  = 212 740sol    - if you have this speed you will get 1 zec per block
1 block=10zec   / 10  = 1 zec             - if you want 1 zec per block you must have 212 740sol

next

212 740sol          / 10 = 21 274sol       - if you have this speed you will get 0.1 zec per block
1 zec                / 10 = 0.1 zec            - if you want 0.1 zec per block you must have 21 274sol

next

21 274sol            / 10 = 2127sol           - if you have this speed you will get 0.01 zec per block
0.1 zec              / 10 = 0.1 zec             - if you want 0.01 zec per block you must have 2127sol

finaly words

if dwarfpool found 23 bloks per day (now the pool have 23 blocks from last day) = 0.23 zec for 1 day if you have 2127sol
but if dwarfpool found 30 block per day = 0.30zec for 1 day , and more... and more... and more ... everithing is little luck !

This numbers is right ?

I started dwarfpool today and will post after 24h results - 3,5% for fee ... and will see they steal or not couse i think flypool steal 10-20%from us

2, bad GPU riser (hope you are powering the risers with the molex directly to the PSU, the sata cables are dangerous and it doesnt deliver enough power to the riser which could cause the hanging..)

Can you elaborate on this a bit more?

How are SATA cables more dangerous?
Why can't they deliver the required power? SATA has a 3.3V, 5V, and 12V rail.  Each rail is rated for 4.5 amps.
Molex has a 5V and 12V rail, each rated for 3 amps.

The only potential danger I can see is over amping the SATA to Molex adapter as it could potentially be receiving 4.5 amps with a design capacity of 3 amps.  My SATA cables are actually cool to the touch and my SATA/Molex adapters are room temperature.

I could be missing something.  I'd be happy for someone to set me straight if I'm wrong on this.

I'm using 5 pcie 1x to 16x powered usb risers (version 6).  I have 1 SATA cable powering 3 risers (with Molex adapters) and 1 SATA cable powering 2 risers and an SSD (Molex adapters only on the risers of course).

well some time ago was here some1 with a burned mobo...

If im not wrong the explanation was that the GPU is also drawning the power from the PCIE x16 if it is needed... That means that if your risers are connected to the mobo per sata cable all the power is taken through the mobo. If it is too much it can burn the motherboard... For this reason is it more safe to plug it to the PSU...

If i have bad info, correct me, surrely want to learn...

Edit:

now i got your point... I was unclear what I ment before, explaining that sata cables are not safe.... I ment the connecting to the mobo per the sata cables..

Have no exp with sata to PSU setup, like the direct psu-molex connection more, but its just i prefer....

No offence, srry for the mess and thx for your imput Smiley

Thanks for the clarification.  I apologize if I came off as condescending or confrontational, it certainly wasn't my intent.  It looks like we were talking about two different things (SATA power vs. SATA comms).  Now it makes sense to me.  Thanks again!

@Puffy23 there's this legend that sata power connectors to the raiser is a fire hazard, I guess it's only for people with shaky hands though...Smiley
