Okay, I understand the other stuff, but the transaction ID - where do I find this?  This is part of the step where we are suppose to PM Canary with the signature info.

Double click on the transaction in your wallet.  It should give you all the transaction details.

Ah, I see now.  thanks!

I'm using Bitcoin-QT for linux which is using Qt version 4.6.2.  Somewhat different than earlier versions or windows versions, this provided me no means of messaging to include the USPS tracking number.  In fact with a couple of receive addresses I wasn't sure what address the wallet sent the BTC from and only found that for sure looking at the transaction ID on blockchain.info.  So, how do I sign the USPS tracking number.  My PM to the gmail address included my name and address and the attached USPS label has exactly that although the return address has my name above the CanaryInTheMine company name and address.  How do I sign the USPS tracking number or is it even an issue with all the data in that one message?
there's probably info somewhere on forums or maybe someone here can help you by pointing to a guide on how to sign it with your particular setup.

I absolutely need a signed message to proceed with an order: we've had attempts from people to claim a transaction that belonged to someone else.  that won't fly here since I verify every order and the reason why I don't have too many more attempts by scammers but as order volumes go up, they think I'll blink and they can sneak one in...  not going to happen. you wouldn't believe the "dog ate my homework" stories trying to explain why it's their transaction even though they can't sign a message with it...  (and before you misunderstand me, I'm not saying that you are a scammer! plz don't go there. I'm just explaining this).

the purpose of the signed message is to protect the buyer. the seller is protected by virtue of the buyer being protected, not the other way around...

some wallets can not sign, which none of you should use by the way... get a modern wallet! Smiley

there are 3 ways to resolve this:
1. you find out how to sign a message and sign it.
2. you import your wallet into another wallet like blockchain and voila!! you can sign a message for the transaction you have sent.
3. I can refund your payment back to the sending address and you  can then forward your funds to a wallet with which you can sign.

let me know, thanks!

Getting there.  Am at the Signatures Sign/Verify page.  Have made a message with my address in the top box, put tracking number and other information in the message text area, mashed the Sign Message and got a long string in the signature box.  So, I'll copy the long string that appeared in the sig box and paste that in a normal message to your gmail address.  Ahh, now I see how the kiddie porn maggots were sending URLs using Bitcoin and blockchain.

Still need to learn more about BTC.
Guytechie, you and me. Once you know how it works it's all very elegant and fool-proof. Even when fools like myself try to screw it up. I am amazed how late I am to the game, but compared to 99.999% of the world population we are still not doing too bad.

Got a confirmation from Canary that all is well with my order. Amazingly good support and patience with the first time users.

I understand that it's only 2 cents, but now I have to wait until I earn 0.01 BTC before i can pull it into my wallet (minimum payout).  It's going to take a half a day.

Grrr... just made a hair enough, but says it needs 0.0002 BTC for transaction fees.  I wasn't aware of that!

Still need to learn more about BTC.

i hope I did the rest okay.  I am waiting to mine the last .0002 BTC.  In reality, it'd be .001 BTC since that's the minimum I can do a payout.

You know you're complaining about the equivalent of about .2 cents.  Grin

But, yeah, I know what you mean: did the same mistake my first time, not knowing about transaction fees.

All of my recent transactions were fine only providing 0.0001 BTC for transaction fees. If you have that much, give it a go.

Geeze, gotta love bitcoins Smiley

Got a horrific message from Canary: "Unable to verify". WTF, right? So I went to check the transaction and guess what, could not find it either. Apparently, I screwed up copy-paste into the email!

BUUUUT, after checking the details of transaction, I got this: http://blockexplorer.com/tx/d9192cc3d48721355e897317d6164be6702b5d26bd38e613fc1b973a7c157a7b

I am impressed. First time bitcoin user Cheesy

Sorry Canary and thanks for the patience.

Ok, this is my first time ordering from you.  Very complex!

I think I am suppose to post this here:

guytechie; 2; 0.62 BTC; 1KZDTsLdUnFMfeoXh974vzDGTBdh6WLqxS

I am sending my own shipping label.

I think I signed it correctly, so its just a matter of sending payment to your address.

Then I have to PM you the signature and transaction ID.

Then I have to email you the shipping label.

Am I missing anything?

PS: I created a new address to sign, but I noticed all of my other addresses are signed with the same thing.  Is that suppose to be that way?

between a rock and a block!
Okay, first time creating a shipping label outside of eBay.  I created a USPS account, but when I'm about to create a label, it has my address for the return address.

So how does this work?  To and from my address?
I did that too but it will ask what zip code will it ship from.  Canary's zip is 60181

edit someone please confirm the zip
confirmed 60181

Is Canary PMing his return address so we can create a shipping label?
At USPS, it created a label that had my address as both TO and FROM. It also has a field on the label that stated that it will be shipped from a different ZIP code. I put Canary's zip in that field. I have no idea if that's right or not, but that's what I sent to Canary.
that's perfect!

use your address in both the to and from.  However, indicate that shipping is from 60181 zip.

-------
"theoretically" you could put whatever you want in the from address, as long as your to address is where you want it delivered to...
but!! you want your address in the from section because if for some reason it is you know "lost" at the wonderful USPS system, it will make it's way back to you anyway...
makes sense?
