Howdy All,

The R5/R6 Jupiter is down.  My wife will probably be able to try power cycling it shortly.  If that doesn't work it will have to wait until I get home from work in another 6 hours.

Sorry about that, and I have no idea what the problem is. Thomas_s alerted me to the fact that the hashrate dropped way down this morning.  I logged in remotely and cgminer was just throwing strange errors.  An attempt to reboot the machine remotely didn't work and it dropped offline.

RL = Real Life.  Nothing to worry about - a friend of mine just died rather unexpectedly under weird circumstances.  Life goes on....

I have an announcement.  Sad

I won't go into details, but some heavy RL stuff happened near -R- so please go easy on him for requests & such, if you can for a bit. He's fine & I won't hurt our friendship by revealing what happened but I'd appreciate it if you gals & guys can give him some time/space.

If you have some urgent matters related to R5/R6, please contact Thomas or myself first.

Thank you.

additionally will we ever switch to mining PPC, there is talk through out the mining world that ppc is going to be the dumping ground for asics just like LTC was for GPU's.

I have tripled my money in PPC which is nice, but i am just wondering if there has ever been that discussion?

We could also be one rev behind, unless the new rev fixes a major problem there is no point.

I also agree if it isn't broke don't fix it.  Typically fixing something that isn't broke can cause a lot of issues, and as i have said in a previous post this first month is our money maker. 1 day of no hashing is just a waste escpecially on something that isnt' needed.  Now in December when 1 day is going to be nothing then yeh go for it.  And i understand Redacted you would make us whole but there is no point in that when it could have been averted.

Now if they said hey this firmware now lets us mine at 1 th i would say it could be worth the risk even if it caused us to only last 2 months as those months are our biggest money maker.  From what i understand is mining is a sprint race, you go fast out of the gate for as long as possible.

based on photos of the burned up knc miners .  based that our miner has a broken power jack for one fan.  based that out of about a 7000 usd per miner cost about 55 coins per miner. total of 110btc. not counting other costs

based on the collection of about 2.5 btc so far.  we are still down 107.5 btc lets at least get back 40 or 50 btc, paid out to us before we do this.  I am in on 5 or 6 buys from dz and others on this site. I put out about 35 coins.  so far I have collected 1 coin back (cloudhashing  and they are about to go bust).

I would feel better if the only good buy so far  for me  this one  pays out some coin before we blow it up.  Think goose eggs golden killed.

Build a ice box for it, I shall!

Submerge it in non conductive oil.
I would seriously consider it if people vote.

Well, my take on it is this:

This Jupiter probably has a life expectancy of about three months before it doesn't cover the hosting costs, which include the electricity.  Efficiency is not an issue.  If it continues to run this well just as it is, I'd suggest not upgrading the firmware or otherwise changing anything about it, for as long as it does.

Now you could probably force a a vote on this if you wanted, and I'd just have my 5 shares to vote in that case, but I think the fact that it's cranking out nearly 600 Gh/s would be a pretty strong argument for leaving it alone....

I'd say a 50% overclock is *great* in anyone's book not running LN2 for geek cred.

Reminds of that time back in the day when mah Celeron Overclocked 50% to 450 whole Megahurts.

I'd say one working 600GH/s miner in-hand is easily worth two 650GH/s miners in the bush flames. I'm pretty sure that's how that folk wisdom goes.

If many people do the firmware and get 700gh at 600 watts for a week yeah do it,

but never be a guinea pig.  Wait for confirmation that the update is good.  And also a big improvement.  And that we hashed a lot of coin.

my vote is " wait for it" = "the greatest middle name ever"  (what tv show is that quote from?)
