i do this question because i´ve read in this website issues with bitcoin, slow mining process, high fees, etc. and i´ve read too good reviews of some altcoins, ethereum (smart contracts), ripple (for transfers between banks), dash and nem. these altcoins called 2.0. could bitcoin become just in future virtual gold reserved to companies and rich people?
Of course no. Bitcoin is the strongest coin in the cryptocurrency world. There is no coin in the cryptocurrency that can surpass the bitcoin. Bitcoin will conquer the cryptocurrency world forever.
Yeah you have a good point. it is really impossible that the bitcoin will be replaced by another cryptocurrency. We all know that the bitcoin is now very strong that no one altcoins can surpass it.

Bitcoin can be replaced by the other altcoins in the market because they are popping like mushrooms and for sure there are few altcoins that have a great features and goals so if bitcoin will not continue to improve itself then it is a complete game over for bitcoin and it will take a few years for bitcoin to get replaced by altcoin.

Thwre's always a possibility for something to happen like Bitcoin being replaced by other cryptocurrency. Bitcoin is currently the strongeet cryptocurrency for a long period of time and its is because of the high demand it is getting from its large community. If another crypto will be more in demand than Bitcoin,  it will be more used by companies and investors than Bitcoin ofcourse.

It's possible because cryptocurrencies are quite new when you compare it to other securities like stocks and commodities. It's possible that the coins you mentioned will supersede bitcoin in the future and there is a possibility that a new coin that would still be develop will be the one who will replace bitcoin. We never know what will happen but what we do know nowadays is that bitcoin is getting stronger and though there are drops in prices which is not new in a market, it then goes higher the next time it soar and reach new highs again so bitcoin is still the most attractive currency to investors for now.

First we need to know history why people start to using currency to subtitute Gold. Its weight is very high and difficult to transfer in huge amount, that's why bank offering storage gold and release paper to the owner of the gold.

Bitcoin still easy to use and transfer, there is no reason for subtitute BTC with another crypto. Its price can be less than other crypto just because trading activity

There is a possibility. However the probability of this ever happening is quite low.

In all of cryptocurrency's history, bitcoin has always been the number one crypto. Litecoin, Ethereum, Ripple have all come close but none have ever overtaken it. I believe that the reason this is the case even though you can see that Ethereum has more functionality, ripple is able to do interbank transactions and already have partners, and litecoin being cheaper in transaction fees and faster in blocks is that bitcoin has a reputation that no one else has.

All these altcoins are built on top of bitcoin's blockchain technology. Bitcoin was the first to implement it, it has a wider community etc. You barely can find one person that is involved in altcoins but not bitcoin. But you'll find lots that only believe in bitcoin, but not altcoins.
I think it would not be happen. Because bitcoin is known and the most trusted currency than other cryptocurrencies. And bitcoin was the currency that has a wider society. But for me. We cant predict that happenings if it will happen. So until it not be, keep on earning some bitcoin.

Bitcoin is successful because it is popular and is being accepted worldwide. It has achieved status of digital currency unofficially by having legislative support in many countries. There is no other alternative currency at the moment having this kind of popularity and trust among people at universal level. I don't see any chance for any other at least for near future to be able to replace Bitcoin.
The new wave of crypto will be ones that support bitcoin as a gold standard reserve currency of the blockchain....  although altcoins did due a great service to the blockchain world by testing new possibilities they are now basically becoming to obscure in their focus.
Blockchain platforms facilitating bitcoin remittance and services between fiat, bitcoin, and businesses are the only projects that will remain after the next bitcoin bubble.
But I see the replacement of Bitcoin is inevitable, that is in the distant future

You are correct. This is how corporates are gonna destory the bitcoin from us. Many International MNCs invested on Etherum projects. This info you can find on Google news itself. After the meeting with the blockchain team with the US commerce department in January, after that bitcoin mining fees has been increased initially in the blockchain itself. Now all the wallet providers and network use to transact the bitcoin. All has increased the fees to 0.001 btc as a default fee in many wallets. Still Multibit and Mycelium seems good in fees wise.

On your statements, are you saying that in teh near future Ethereum can possibly surpass the value of bitcoin? It is because more investors now invested on Ethereum projects. Is that what you're intended to say?

Its highly unlikely that bitcoin is replaced, but i think its possible. THe devs need to find a solution to scaling bitcoin before it goes viral in mainstream. People wont use it as currency if keeps raising fees and transaction times.

At first I thought it was impossible for Bitcoin to be replaced since it is the first cryptocurrency, but you are right, some altcoins may have better features than Bitcoin and people may prefer them instead.

Here's an analogy, lets imagine all cryptocurrencies are like mobile phones. Bitcoin is Nokia, and started the mobile phone trend. And soon after everyone started using Nokia. But brands like Blackberry, Samsung and Apple soon created their own phones, and Apple made a major breakthrough with a touchscreen function, where everyone gradually switched to that after a while, and now Nokia is outdated.

Bitcoin has our trust now, but other cryptocurrencies might overtake BTC in the future. Smiley

Thats just a good analogy. Moreso, nothing last forever as it is said & change is constant. So it is very possible for bitcoin to be outdated either due to its charge, difficulties in exchange and insecurities attached to it. Another crpto like the ones already known could come out stronger and take the lead.

I think bitcoin couldn't be replaced by another cryptocurrency, it will not be happened and i don't seem to agree if that happens. Because i know, on my knowledge bitcoin is the king from other crypto currency, and other crypto currency is just as a new breakthrough or the development of bitcoin.

Different Cryto's will gain popularity and demand once they start being accepted by more businesses.

And, Supply & Demand will drive the prices up, because they are not infinite like fiat seems to be.

I suppose we'll see in the coming months, and years!

It's possible but it require some time since bitcoin are the first and in order to take the first place, they need extra trust and extra advantage so it can compare on bitcoin. It's only a matter of time since many people start build their own advantage to be the best cryptocurrency that ever exist
It will be hard to replaced bitcoin with another crypto currency because you know bitcoin has been the most known and has been the most reliable crypto currency. Yes it had lapses back then but nevertheless has been great and had been giving benefits already to the people who has been trusting it's services. And to the point that it has been the best ever crypto currency that has ever existed yet has captured all the heart of it's users.

What will be Bitcoin's worth if it gets reserved to such big companies and only few people? It is meant and made to circulate across everyone just like normal money does. And for another cryptocurrency, I want to say that I also thought the same way "accidentally" and intentionally took a wrong decision thinking BCH would be able to replace Bitcoins but it didn't prove itself. No more words to speak.

Bitcoin- in bullish time
It can never ever be ppssible that bitcoin could be replaced by any other coin. You can witness the recent fork issues, people were thinking that this had split bitcoin into two chains now bitcoin will be dumped but bitcoin has proven that it rules in crypto world,no one can compete it.
As of now, we can say yes that there is nothing that can compete with bitcoin because it is still the best cryptocurrency in the market and a lot of people now are focusing in bitcoin rather than other cryptocurrency and that is why it is best to invest in strong coins like bitcoin because in the long term of patience of holding it will surely payoff.

It's really good question to discuss. We all know that many people prefers bitcoin because it is old, known and trusted. But there are something which people don't like as time goes, for example high transaction fees and low block size. But people trust to bitcoin so much, it's currently hard to beat btc. Maybe in future there will be 1 good altcoin, better than bitcoin which will gain more trust and popularity, really hard to discuss but I am optimist on bitcoin and I think it will be always as first in cryptocurrencies as google is first in search engines.
I think it is just a matter of time... Even if we just compare bitcoin and ETH, they are both good, but in technological way ETH is more ahead, WAVES is even better and also Viacoin is upcoming trend. Bitcoin gained power for several years and became one of the greatest cryptocurrencies, others coins are new players on this arena. I think bitcoin could be replaced, maybe even in a few years already.
The community just demonstrated to the world that they're not against using some upgrades and new implementations to fix the blockchain so that it can be more effective for all users, so I think that pushed any kind of talk of Bitcoin being replaced by another crypto far off the near timeline and pretty far off into speculation. Before the fork there might have been some credible talk about a replacement, but now the community has found ways to make Bitcoin into something that will remain competitive, and as long as it stays like that then there will likely never be a replacement for Bitcoin.

Ethereum and the like simply don't have enough attraction for outside investors to get involved in them before Bitcoin. Plus Bitcoin essentially acts as a gatekeeper for other cryptos, right now at least.

I agree with this. Well said. Chances are chances, it mustn't be taken for granted. Even how small that chance, as long as it is not

I agree with you, that there is possibility. However, no matter how small that possibility is, chance is chance, it mustn't be taken for granted. That small possibility can occur as long it is not zero. Though those altcoin are in great disadvantage with bitcoin, they can think ways on how to turn that into advantage. Those people are not just nobody, they make altcoins because they can, they have the power to compete with each other. And if their efforts produce results, results that are better than bitcoin, then bitcoin will become the alt coin and the dominant one will take its place.
