i do this question because i´ve read in this website issues with bitcoin, slow mining process, high fees, etc. and i´ve read too good reviews of some altcoins, ethereum (smart contracts), ripple (for transfers between banks), dash and nem. these altcoins called 2.0. could bitcoin become just in future virtual gold reserved to companies and rich people?
Bitcoin is the best cryptocurrency. Now bitcoin market cap reached as high as $73,5 billion, even etherium is not reach that point yet,  Experts are said that the price of bitcoin will reach as high as $7500 next year. Bitcoin is very good for investment too,  so I think bitcoin will not be replaced by another cryptocurrecy.

I don't think there would be any currency that can replace bitcoin. Bitcoin has been in the market for a long period and it is trusted by many people just in case a new currency will be introduce surely its value will only depend in bitcoin just like all other crypto currencies and bitcoin will remain the number one in the market

I think bitcoin cannot be replaced by a new crypto currency. Something that is stable and well managed thing cant be replaced by anything. It is stable and is now widely accepted so it cant be replaced.

there is nothing is impossible with crypto currency , maybe someday bitcoin can be rank down to number 2
but that crypto currency has to be really really big for it to be able to persuade the trust of investors to bitcoin

MenaPay - Crypto made easier than cash
I think that someday it can happen because bitcoin is imperfect and every day there is a demand for other crypto currencies which are also developing.

the thing about BTC is that it has the "first mover" advantage. Since it's the first of its kind, it's set as an example and is leading the entire crypto market (uptrends/downtrends). You might notice that altcoins move along with BTC (when BTC is gaining, ETH is gaining etc.) It will be very difficult for BTC to lose this top position and highly unlikely, even if there are other options availalbe, BTC had the time to establish trust which is the most important aspect of any crypto
Not at all because no other crypto currency can even compete with Bitcoins because there is no such other crypto currency of which prices are going high rapidly just bitcoins is the only crypto currency which prices are going higher rapidly.

Thinking on the higher plane of existence.
At first I thought it was impossible for Bitcoin to be replaced since it is the first cryptocurrency, but you are right, some altcoins may have better features than Bitcoin and people may prefer them instead.

Here's an analogy, lets imagine all cryptocurrencies are like mobile phones. Bitcoin is Nokia, and started the mobile phone trend. And soon after everyone started using Nokia. But brands like Blackberry, Samsung and Apple soon created their own phones, and Apple made a major breakthrough with a touchscreen function, where everyone gradually switched to that after a while, and now Nokia is outdated.

Bitcoin has our trust now, but other cryptocurrencies might overtake BTC in the future. Smiley
You have a good point there but slow mining process is due to number of thousands of transactions that occurs  everyday. Bitcoin and ethereum has different usese, bitcoin is for money transfer and ethereum is for smart contracts. And since they have different use the competition among the coins is indirect. So Im confident that the use of bitcoin is still dominant than other ethereum based tokens.

I think it's possible, we never know what will happen with the future, what we think today is best not necessarily tomorrow is still the best. some altcoin is likely to replace bitcoin for example is Ethereum.

Since Market cap of Bitcoin is way more than any other altcoin.....Moreover, trading Altcoin is not as feasible as of BITCOIN trading, therefore it seems to be an impossible task to replace Bitcoin for now.
But with new innovation and technology...it is could be possible that Bitcoin could be replaced by some other Altcoin with some unique feature.

I doubt that there is any other cryptocurrency or altcoin that can supersede the bitcoin. At least not for the next 10 years.

It depends on how the technology under the hood will evolve in the long run to face challenges like the limited TPS rate.
Probably bitcoin will not be replaced but there are high chances that another coin will emerge and come up beside bitcoin.

This world is a competition, who can't compete with others will be replaced. Bitcoin is the same. So there is a chance another crypto currency will replace bitcoin if Bitcoin stop upgrading , improving. The dead of Nokia is an real example for this.
You're right mate, but it could be a long term competition. But I don't think that bitcoin could be replaced by other coins because bitcoin had already tested by many attacks but it still stand for it. For it's strong foundation make bitcoin depend itself, and it become stronger as everyone in the community expected for this.
My opinion is that at this stage there are no coins that popularity can come close to bitcoin. This option is possible only in the case if bitcoin will lose the fight with governments and speculators. Theoretically, the bitcoin now is very inflated by speculative capital. If speculators sharply withdraw your money there can be a large dump and the credibility of bitcoin will be undermined. In this case, it will turn into a bubble that will burst.

I doubt that there is any other cryptocurrency or altcoin that can supersede the bitcoin.
But it dosen’t really replace the coins as they still give their function in their own blockchains, it is just that when you can use one blockchain as control panel of every other chain. For some new kind of money to come along that can do the same to bitcoin it would have to be so advanced that we cannot imagine it today. I believe telepathy would be required, or it may be be based on some kind of data that can be sent faster than light.
Bitcoin is the trendsetter in crypto and it is boss of all no other currency can replace it, it give people more room as compare to other and people know about only one coin that is bitcoin and accepting of some other coin is impossible now because there is no one who will initiate to invest in new coin there is a lot of risk so relay on bitcoin is best option.

In my opinion, it is really impossible. What makes a crypto on top is because of the advantages such as transactions, high market value, demand and large community. Bitcoin remained the no.1 crypto for years because it topnotched the mentioned factors. But as you've mentioned, there are altcoins that has more advantages than Bitcoin. If users of Bitcoin will be mindful with that, and will choose to transfer with certain altcoins, its market demand will fall that may also result for Bitcoin  to be replaced . But since Bitcoin is on mainstream as of this moment, this thing would be somehow impossible to happen.

It's impossible and hard to imagine on why bitcoins will be defeated by the other altcoins when we already know that bitcoins is the reigning king of the alts and many people holds it rather than anything else here so there's no replacing will be happen not unless if bitcoins network fail in the future and investors will select to shift some other coins.

The only other cryptocurrency poised to replace Bitcoin, or rather overtake it in market cap we should say, is Ethereum. The only reason for this is on the basis that hundreds of companies rely on ETH to run their business, where as Bitcoin is more so of an individualized investment type of thing for many.
