Hi guys.

i ve stuck with the cpu mining idea because of existing hardware.
I ve got 7 servers with xeon cpus but all working on some software, services etc etc. i wouldn't like them to work on full load but only up to 50-60% as now each cpu load is < 10%.
I could also setup a couple of Virtual machines only for mining.
As well i could built a pc with FX 8300 8-Core Processor 3.3GHz only for mining too.

Do you think that all these machines would make some good profit monthly?
Would better go for Monero or Aeon?

servers running 24/7 and im not paying any electricity.

other choice is:
rig with few GTX 750 Ti 4GB that is cheap for mining monero (giving about 250h/s) and according to calculators will give a monthly profit of aprox $70.

if mining monero i would be happy in the future to reach 1500h/s-2000h/s so i could get up to $180 per month.

i'm happy to listen any opinion

Hey all,

I am planning to develop pool software for ethereum (and forks). I have installed  linux,  geth  on an old PC and created a private chain.
In order to develop and test I need a CPU miner (not the geth miner ) so that it connects to my ethereum node via stratum.

I understood ethminer used to have CPU support, but I cannot find any old version in github.

Anyone has a link where I can download an old version of ethminer (linux) which has support for CPU mining (-C flag)?

Thanks

for me, CPU mining is still profitable. But If you want to build a new rig, you should consider Vega. Grin

I do not see any sense at all in the mining. New crypto currencies refuse to mining at all. I think it's right.

It is difficult to assess the payback of mining... To make mining profitable, you have to invest in good hardware. If you try to mine on CPU of your laptop, then you will get profit in the form of a burned device

In my opinion, this is a meaningless occupation at the end of 2017. You need more power, only the CPU power is now too low.

I have 3 idle servers with a total of 6 physical processors that I want to put to use, electricity is free. I need recommendations on the best CPU coin to mine with the servers. I've looked into MNX and XMR but can't figure out the best route to go...

Yenten - the coin made for men over 21 only. No kids and no women!

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ann-cpu-mining-yenten-v201-ytn-yescryptr16-exchange-avilable-2329470

If you got lots of cpu power you can get some profit of this currently.

what about Intel cpu g530 @ 2.40 GHz 64-bit and 4gb ram. ? what i can mine there?
Only some very new coins with big hope rising in the future. Look for freelabit digitalnote and other cryptonight coins

With a good processor, you can try the very promising investment coin for Kalkulus. You can see the project on the official thread of the forum. If you do not want to search, you can see my signature.

So many wrong posters here saying that CPU mining is not profitable. If you have a good CPU and do your research you can make $2+ per day after power costs; even $1 a day after power costs is worth it for a part that you need to have anyways. I would not build an entire PC for CPU mining only, but if you need a PC for other tasks, or are building a mining rig it's worth considering buying a good CPU in order to mine with it. The AMD Ryzen series are wonderful CPU miners and can pay for themselves as quickly as some GPUs you may buy to mine with.

Many miners don't want competition and are afraid of rising difficulty of mining so they always answer no if anybody asks if mining is profitable. I think you still can earn money if more people start mining your coins because the price will rise with increased popularity. You get less coins but each coin is worth more.

CPU mining is only really worth it if you have free electricity, and don't expect to actually make any real money.

You can still mine ROI Coin using your CPU only. Check it out here: https://roi-coin.com

Mine with the help of the CPU in the present time is possible, but not at all profitable. The CPU is designed to perform very complex and different commands. Video cards are designed specifically to perform a very large number of simple operations, so they are well suited for mining. For mining, you need graphics cards.

In my opinion, mining is gradually disappearing into the past. For mining, you need to spend too much electricity and time. It is necessary to pass from Proof-of-Work to Proof-of-Stake.

I'm mining Electroneum. It has a easy set up software. My CPU is a i5 processor. the return is very low. But i don't know how to set up the other mining software. this one is pretty straight forward and easy. So i stuck with it.

I'm mining electroneum with my core i7 cpu @ 4Ghz and I got about 300h/s
I'm using xmr-stack miner, I think your result should about 200-250 h/s
so if you getting really lower then that - well, that means that you have to proper setup  the miner
