Religion provided rules for organizing large group of people.
By this logic, science is a religion and math is it's god

Not God.  God is not real.

Like I said before, I think a new religion of "data processing" will be named sometime in not so distant future.

People already follow this religion but it has not been formally defined yet.

The bronze age religions will be studied by historians, psychologists, neuroscientists  but regular people will stop following these irrational myths.  For the same reason they abandoned other religions of the past.

All of this is part of evolution.

BTW, I think there are many other "religions": capitalism, money, socialism, liberalism, humanism all have similar function as theistic religions.

Interesting to talk about capitalism as a religion.

It's a good comparison. Capitalism is horrible, kills hundreds of thousands of people, gives everything to a small elite, like a religion.
And like a religion, the "followers" are indoctrinated to worship it without questioning it ever, and to chase the others...

I am sure that if downloading the brain information into a hard drive will be possible, the rich majority will try to keep it for themselves. They will not want to have too many immortals out there.

That could be why you have never heard of it Wink

Immortal might be a bit of a misnomer... The person could still die, like always... Just not death by old age... A bullet, or heart-attack could still be lethal

Though, I suppose if they did a nightly backup of their brain, they could have an emergency backup plan in case of death...

Fairly certain I saw a movie with this... the had these little dots under their eye-lids to show how many times they had been cloned already...

Meh?
How did you come from the Bible to crazy immortal rich dudes? ^^

ahahh, yes i am confused too... i want to know how could you manage to come this point from bible shit ?

Now there is your time machine.  You do yearly backup when you renew your driver's license.   When you die, they'll restore your brain to the year you specified on driver license application.  Or it could be a walk-in procedure, you walk in and do a refresh from 10 years ago.

Sort of like the movie Groundhog Day.

Combined with human cloning they will be able to backup one's brain when he/she is born and then clone him/her, grow him/her, and upload the backup.  So people would never really die.

That should be doable within 20-40 years, if not sooner...

The hard part is the clone... that's gonna take another 20 years unless you want to be a baby

religion of "data processing"? Please elaborate on this. I'm curious about what you mean.

External (to your body) entities (data processing algorithms) will provide answers to all questions humans might have.

In the future (and to some extend now) you rely on these invisible (yet very real) helpers to help you with your day to day activities.
Long time ago, you had to pray to God to have rain, or to find a suitable mate.

Algorithms today (and they will become more sophisticated as more data is collected and processed) will be able to predict rain or find you a suitable wife or husband, predict what is the best course of action regarding any human activities.  When to wage wars, when to have peace.  When to start presidential campaign, when to end it.  You can still refuse to follow these (essentially committing a sin and failing in your task), but over time people will trust more and more these technologies and follow what these external entities tell them to do.  What to eat, what to wear, who to associate with, who to trust, who you should avoid etc. Essentially, a set of rules that will help you with your life.  To keep you safe, out of danger, out of trouble.  You'll not question them because they will be more reliable than your own reason or intuition so overtime you'll accept them as something you better not go against.

We don't know exactly where AI and genetic enhancement technologies will lead us, but it certainly will not be a bronze age myth that we'll be following.  I envision multiple human species through genetic altercations and AI and nano-tech integration.  I know is sounds far fetched, but look at neurosciences, AI and nano research people are doing now.  It is beyond what we could have ever dreamed of 50 years ago.

Speaking of technology...

I noticed a theme several years ago with breakthroughs in various areas of research...

There were major breakthroughs in tracking the function of the brain... exactly what each cell does, exactly what signals it sends to communicate messages, etc... the brain is being mapped and analyzed so the data can be downloaded to a hard drive (or another brain)...

Mix that with the breakthroughs in cloning technology, and you have eternal life (for those who can afford it)

I've read the Bible, so lemme break it down for you...

God commands you to kill all the witches, Muslims, and fags

If you are a good little Christian, and kill enough fags, God will reward you in heaven

God does not elaborate on these rewards however, he wants it to be a surprise (unlike the Muslims who know they will get 72 virgins because God said so)

Does that sum up Christianity?

Hmm... Is there any correlation to be expected between the number of fags killed and the amount of the reward?

Yes

Quote from: Revelation 22:12
Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done.

Quote from: Matthew 16:27
For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and will then repay every man according to his deeds

Quote from: 1 Corinthians 3:8
Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor.

It is very strange to me that people actually want to defend these rules.  It is like they close off all their reasoning and want to follow them just because they want to.

And they think they have any moral ground to stand on, unbelievable!!!

Haven't we been over this?

Christians don't read the bible or they would be Atheists...

Christians want to be told a story in church once a week (if that)... and just pretend it says all these happy and nice things... they don't want to know the truth by actually reading their book... that thing has over 1000 pages!  Who has time for all that?

Sounds like something out of the Matrix movie. We already are weaker and less intelligent because of technology.

Lots of funny folks there !

About the soul : think the human body as a computer. The OS is the soul. If you erase the HDD, then the soul is still there. Your soul is your subconscious. You can't deleted it.

We're the best because we're made as God's image, and because who create music, write poems, invent cars. That's not ants for sure.

Someone else can't become you, because he will never have the same soul, the same way to think.

So you don't acknowledge evolution I guess? Roll Eyes

I don't have an opinion yet on this. I just know that if the evolution in fact happened, all has been conducted by God's hand.

Great and how do you know that?
Cause if evolution is real could you explain when we started to have a soul?

We started to have a soul at the instant where God's created the human.

So you don't trust evolution theory. Because evolution theory explains that God didn't create directly humans but that humans comes from evolution of other species.

Yes, you're right. In a way or in another, that's God who created everything, except the sins, which all come from the humans.

To af_newbie (I'll stop quoting again and again) : the humanity in general is perfect (at least the unaltered groups). If some people born unfinished, that's their parents who aren't good enough Roll Eyes...

You just said humanity is perfect, how can the parents not be good enough?

A man can be altered (look all the unnormal people). A human who has ancestors that never suffered any disease and who live a decent life, won't spread errors.

Interesting. What do you call "normal" or "unnormal"? Do you mean "natural"?

So when you get to Heaven you get to roll some dice and what is, is? Seems like a "gamble"  Grin

It's the old "carrot and stick" trick... except the carrot is old, rotten and inedible... oops

God could be a game-show host...

Quote from: God
Would you like to trade this life, for what is behind door number two?

Well, I don't know. Let me ask my priest. He knows best what's good for me. Seeing as I'm a sheep and all that.
