So far we usually get much of Etherum token, I think the most useful among them all is Myetherwallet and I have been using it for more than four years now and I have never had issues with it though I have read of many falling victim of phising site trying to confuse people about the wallet.
No matter how good and smart you think you can be,if you choose a wring wallet,you are on your way to loosing everything you think you have worked for in the crypto sphere,that us why a thread like this is very important, you have created a very good thread.
One of the most important aspect of Cryptocurrency is the wallet, it is very good to accumulate so much coin but it is very much important to have them safe in a good wallet, so many people could have prevented their portfolio from been hack if only they have information on the right wallet to use.
When you want to choose what cryptocurrency wallet you want to use, you may consider few things before doing so.
What will you do with your wallet ? Do you want to use the wallet for trading ? or investing on project ? or holding coin ?

I like very much that most of the coins are ERC-20 tokens and can be conveniently and safely stored in the MEW wallet. Even my today's favorite - the project of the Sound Money Coin is quietly stored in this wallet. It is very convenient and safe!
Well sometimes I do think the same way as you, the community support for all these ERC20 tokens have gotten is really convenient. It's not limited to wallet but decentralized exchange aswell. Even better is the fact that the newest samsung galaxy s10 has dedicated wallet from factory and that thing can save ethereum and erc20 token. Cryptocurrency wallets is an important aspect as far as crypto sphere is concern,having someone to address that aspect will surely be a relief to so many people in the forum especially the newbie. There are so many wallets which are being use to store our bitcoin and our investment for long term, but we will have to choose the best which is blockchain. It is reliable to use and it is able to buy goods whenever we need, it is easily accessible and it has promising features about safety and security. It saves our money and it has safe private key the specialty of blockchain is that we can use it for money transaction.

Is it decentralized whereby one holds private key or mnemonic and is responsible for his wallet security? Who are the developers, are they known people in crypto or tech space? Is it a hardware wallet or app or web wallet? . I usually prefer hardware wallets but they have their own flaws, my best pick is ledger Nano S. Trezor too is good, both are universal crypto hardware wallets. Talking about software wallets, my best picks for mobile is atomic wallet, imtoken, trust wallet, blockchain wallet and ARAX wallet.

Wallets are the one of the most valuable thing in this crypto ecosystem. If you have some extra money then I will suggest you to buy a hardware wallet a treazor or a ledger nano. But it's fine to use other wallet. But always use open-source or official wallets. And better stay away form exchange wallet when it comes to long time holding. I always use official or recommended wallets. And mostly I use myetyeher wallets and it support all ethereum platform based token. For NEo based token I use neon wallets and for Eos I use tokenpoket simple Eos and nova. That's it. And for BTC I use exchange wallets cause I always trade so it is easy for me to handle it in exchange.
This is very enlightening. As a newbie it's important to know the different types of wallets necessary to store crypto assets safely. However, I wish there's a way to outline the best two or three wallets of each category.

You're right, cryptocurrency wallets are a very big problem in the sense that you have to choose a well-protected wallet to keep the scammers from hacking

MEW is the best and safest for me today. I constantly participate in Bounty companies and have already paid attention to the fact that it is projects that are related to rc-20 that have a higher success rate than those that use other platforms or offer to register accounts on exchanges instead of their purses for storing cryptocurrency. We've got access to more and more cryptocurrency wallets, but using the top wallets with good reputation will be far better. I've lost around 0.2 btc using a new wallet which within few months took the funds and ran away. As cryptocurrency adoption keeps increasing more new wallets with added features have been existing in the crypto world.
