Based on the votes in this thread Team Monero has chosen to play g5. Now it is time for Team Boolberry to respond. I will plan to count votes again tomorrow at approximately 0:00 UTC.

Nakamura and Anand tied for first. Don't miss the exciting conclusion:

I have updated OP with a few links including MRL-5 which I consider a must read:
https://lab.getmonero.org/pubs/MRL-0005.pdf

I also added a few new links for Zerocash along with a link to a comparison with RingCT from Reddit

At this point I hope all the chess players know what team they are on. I removed Boolberry and Monero from the thread title (which I thought helped players easily identify who was white and black) because I want the technical discussion to remain as coin agnostic as possible.

The intention of this thread is not to promote a specific coin, but to encourage CryptoNote related technical discussion and have some fun playing chess!. Monero has the most links in the OP because frankly it has done by far the most CryptoNote research and development. If you want me to include links to material published by another coin community (such as Aeon) please ask and I will be happy to do so.

In regards to chess, I am open to suggestions about how we can get more people involved or change the format after this game reaches a conclusion.  If there is some way we can attract more chess players from the thread letsplayagame started (since he said he may take a break before starting a new game there) that would be a good thing.

The person mentioned below noticed the Monero price jump today before I did.  I would not be shocked if he asks me to start paying him some proportion of his earnings in XMR instead of BTC at some point.

Bitcoin update:

Most top chess players have "seconds" who help with opening preparation for certain opponents. Often this done over Skype from far away. One of my seconds has just agreed to accept bitcoin for payment going forward.

I am lucky that I can make a good living from playing chess alone.  Most "professional" chess players cannot and must supplement their income by coaching or something else. For those that teach online, bitcoin is perfect, especially if your students live in another country.

Shen updated his blog post and now provides code demonstrating the bug on the actual SDC blockchain, so it turns it his analysis of the math was correct after all.

Having people with the math background like Shen is great for Monero. MRL vetting our cryptography before implementation certainly helps my confidence.

So if SDC dead or can their "broken crypto" be fixed?

https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/458dhs/broken_crypto_in_shadowcash_and_ozcoin/

I am happy to not own any SDC!

It can be fixed but not retroactively. All of the ring signatures on their chain are worthless, if the bug report is correct.

Note that the bug is disputed, so we'll see how it turns out.
