Last time I check, an ex NBA player Nate Robinson got knockout cold by Jake Paul, and now another ex NBA star trying his journey in boxing, this must be fun.
Most probably their purpose is to entertain and to have some money as well, since this is an undercard there's no assurance that they can get a full attention from the crowd though seeing an ex NBA players and a retired player, makes me think that Boxing is getting weirder now. Lots of exhibitions matches between those retired players out of boxing, this might really be the trend now, there's no full retirement for them.
As long as people keep paying to watch those fights then the market is going to give them what they want, I admit that I find this to be odd as well, most of the time I watch a boxing fight in order to see the best the sport can offer do what they can do best, however it seems the tastes of the public have changed, I do not know if this is because of the pandemic or if this is simply a generational change but it seems it is here to stay.

Yes obviously, If nobody wants to watch exhibition match for either a celebrity or a sports celebrity, they'll not going to make a match like these in the first place.
I was really thinking, why would the boxing organization creates a separate council intended for exhibition and pure entertainment. Have the people vote who they want to see fighting in the ring next.
Maybe most people loves watching people beating each other, especially the celebrities.

Nah, these celebrities just want to hop in for exposure and money, Nate Robinson also had a fight against Jake Paul, guess what, Nate lost, it's all about money now and these retired athletes will never do it if money ain't involved, they don't care about how the match will end or how fixed it is, all they care about is the money, period.

Doesnt matter on who would gonna be as long it could able to fill up their pockets. Cool

In fairness to Deron Williams, looks like he is just want to experience his interest for a long. As I said above, he is a long-time boxing and MMA enthusiast and owns a stake in Fortis MMA, a Mixed Martial Arts facility that trained MMA fighters.

Maybe he thinks, what if he will try it on actual. Nothing wrong though. Let's see what will happen next.

There's nothing wrong to try to fight against somebody in a gym or a training facility. If Deron William's only goal is to experience his interest, he could have offered a sparring match to somebody close to his weight and skills. He doesn't have to join the ranks of nuisance wannabe boxers who are trying to make money by just making fun of the sport. By becoming an undercard of Jake Paul and Tommy Fury, he is becoming like them, following the steps of his former NBA player, Nate Robinson.

It's different from Nate because Nate just comes out of nowhere with no boxing skills or what. Here, Deron just wants to take his special interest in sports for long to the next level. He fights, he trains, he invests in the sports, he knows some stuff about the sports. It's like you are dictating where Deron should apply his interest.

In terms of boxing skills, both Nate and Deron have zero. In terms of where they're coming from, they're both coming from the same place. They are huge fans of the sport of boxing. Nate had worn the gloves when he was a kid. He sparred. He had a bag in his backyard. He trained in boxing, had advice from the boxing greats like Mayweather, etc. Does that necessarily make him a boxer? No.

I am not dictating where Deron applies his interest. Who are we to dictate on him? We are discussing. That's it.

Quote
I'm against too at some shitty and crap boxing matches especially involving the Paul brothers but I can't apply that to the desire of Deron Williams to feel the actual boxing experience.

Better give that complaint to Deron's opponent because there's no reason at all to drive himself to the world of boxing exhibition matches. If you can't still see the picture, that's your problem anymore as Deron won't adjust for you/us.

Of course, he won't adjust for you and me. He doesn't even know we're talking about him. There's no point mentioning about it.

But saying that Deron deserves a spot and the opportunity but not Nate, the Paul brothers, and Gore is simply wrong. Deron is really interested in boxing? They all are. Deron has a reason and Gore hasn't? That's unfair. In fact, Gore has been training in boxing even when he was still focused on his NFL career.

If a person can't still see the picture that all of them are simply wannabes, he is probably one of the reasons why this kind of shit continues.

What if he doesnt really like on having those sparring kind of sessions and want to jump in into a real match which the public or does really have the fans that been possibly able to cheer up when he do get involved with other sports. It might not really be that appealing on someones eyes but its his interest and theres no thing we can do if he do much prefer on going that path or something we do say similar to Nate.
Even if we do see it on a bad way but still its his choice and decision had been made.It is just whether you do like to see it or not.

Yes he still doesn't have one boxing match but he is into MMA training and maybe boxing in 2016 he opens an MMA gym, and he is well trained one coach in his video show how Deron condition himself

Rashad Coulter says Ex-NBA Player Deron Williams Can Fight: "He Really Can Fight. He Can Scrap" because of this celebrity exhibition matches that are gaining popularity he decided to join the party to showcase his stuff, so let's see if he's going to surprise us, of course, he is not fighting a professional boxer so it's going to be even.

I think Deron Williams wanted to showcase his hidden talent in boxing through this exhibition bout, or maybe I should say that he wanted this game fight after he retires in his basketball career and wanted to try to fight inside a ring. We all knew that Deron Williams is such a good player of basketball but we don't know how he play inside the ring which is too far different from his past career. I believe that before this news was come out or affirmed this man already prepared himself through trainings or sparring maybe, well we don't know how seriously he is in this upcoming exhibition.

Same with my perception regarding to this fight, he wanted to show his other skills not just his talent from where we knew him, it's interesting since we will cheer for him not shot the ball but to convert the punches that he will going to throw for his opponent. Fans have different opinions, but the main reasons behind is to entertain those people who love this sport.

It's nothing but exhibition, so expect not much aside from enjoying whatever the type of fighting skills both fighters will
showcase in front of those people who will buy the ticket or will watch under PPV.

Yes, that's right, everyone in the world, especially boxing fans, would love to watch the Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul boxing match this time, I saw on YouTuber Tyson Fury that Tommy Fury's brother is very enthusiastic and eager to train his younger brother, who will soon face off in the ring on December 18th.

Ahead of a few more days boxing between Tommy vs. Paul in the title has many fans, especially my friends who invite to place real bets, this is a sign that many people will watch their boxing this time.

If i place a bet next dec 18 i will choose Tommy, for this time there are many reasons that i can hold for Tommy, young age, from a boxing family etc, hopefully my guess is right this time, yes this is fun as the OP said.
I personally might miss the fight, because to be honest, I see the fight is only limited to increasing ratings and income from YouTube for Jake Paul who is indeed famous as a celebrity and YouTuber, if you want to bet, maybe Tommy Fury can be a good choice, because he is a boxer even though his career is not as great as his brother (Tyson Furry) so far, even if Tommy Fury wins, in my opinion it is not a proud achievement because indeed he only beat a celebrity not a boxer and of course it will not be recorded in his professional career later , but if he lost against a celebrity later, wouldn't that be quite a shame for his career later?

I had no idea Deron Williams started boxing, I thought it was another boxer with the same name. Deron Williams is a legend in court, no doubt, but I don't know how good he is as a boxer. We are familiar with big sport players changing the sport after (and sometimes in the middle of it) a successful career, it's more common in football to baseball and golf. Deron Williams was a small for a basketball player, he played as point guard but he is big for boxing. I couldn't find any video of him boxing though, I hope it won't be a disappointing experience for him.

Honestly, Deron Williams is even more worth watching compare to other popular names who just enter the exhibition matches out of nowhere and without knowledge of the sports itself. Deron knows the sports, knows the risks, knows everything on this stuff. Maybe just want to test the waters in actual because that sport is one of his favorites to the point that he invested in it.

On the other hand, as far as my research is concerned, I've never seen any involvement of his opponent, Frank Gore, regarding boxing, mixed martial art, or any fighting-related sports.

In exhibition fights, you don't need to be a professional one. Maybe, boxing is also his passion that we don't know about. Also, he maybe testing waters here. If he can fight inside the ring and see what kind of performance for him. If he is not for this contact sport, this will be one and only exhibition fight for him. But if he feels great and he can show some boxing moves, he may continue staging a fight.

The betting market might be small but they are getting good money from PPV and live audiences. They don't care about that because they have no money to expect in terms of the betting market. There are still lots of people who are following exhibition matches even how crap it looked for us.

If that continues, the real boxing world will become more as an exhibition milking money to people.

This is actually the event that I fear the most where real boxing might become slowly obsolete with these kinds of matches and exhibition fights.

The problem with most exhibition fights stem from the boxers, the viewers, and the entertainment they offer. Surely, it gives so much entertainment when we watch some old boxers fight famous people but this somehow defeats the spirit of boxing. But from a business perspective, these types of matches are very much sought after due to the revenue it offers to the players.

I'm not betting on this knowing that we cannot get a serious fight since for sure they will just give us a show and not an intense fight, also expect that they are doing these for pure business only that's why I'm not spending anything and will just watch on facebook live reply since its quite not so exciting match to see, although its quite interesting how both of them will end up and who will win against this fight.

You would just basically wasting off your precious money on spending on making out those bets on circus type of fights which isnt really worth for us to
consider on putting some bets and as said these are already fixed and when it comes to seriousness then it wouldnt really be giving their best potential
or the best that they can.

Just like on what oasisman mentioned that organizers are really trying out to find the best candidate of the said exhibition fight basing up on fan base
which the more the better.

Nothing but money-making scheme where the promoters are using the known personalities' fame to attract viewers and fans' interest.

You are right in terms of this sport. It's not for everyone. There are many aspirants who are trying so hard just to get that
chance fighting and showcasing their talents. Who's until now is on the waiting list.

While this kind of fight has easily been settled and scheduled, I understand that it's on the promoters and viewers to
Entertained this fight for their enjoyment.  Wink

People will watch this fight out of curiosity, but they don't expect a top-notch fight that you can expect from real boxing, they can hype this fight but people already know what will be the outcome, it will result in a draw or to who comes more prepare here, it's hard to predict who will win because I don't have knowledge or have these two fights before.

usually, exhibition fights have prior arrangement or agreement with both camps. so this kind of match is not good for serious bettors as they can easily lose owed to unfair judgment. right now, they are staging this kind of fight as people are still watching this, esp those with large following.
so dont expect much from this fight. just enjoy and as much as possible dont shell out money.

If you take a look at the bigger picture, the boxing organizers for these exhibition matches are actually expanding their target market who potentially buy the ticket or If there's a PPV for it. So, that's the reason why they are hiring different sports celebrities to fight as their fan base could actually shoe support by watching them fight plus the boxing fans who potentially wants to see then fight.

Yeah, you're right this kind of event shouldn't be taken into consideration to make a serious bet. Exhibition matches is fixed.
