I think it's already official, Deron Williams vs Frank Gore will fight on the undercard of Jake Paul's fight.

Former NFL running back Frank Gore to fight ex-NBA guard Deron Williams as part of Jake Paul undercard

Quote
The match will be part of the undercard when Jake Paul takes on Tommy Fury on Dec. 18. The Gore-Williams fight is slated for four rounds. Both fighters will fight at 215 pounds.

Just a reminder, don't expect too much on this fight as it's only a four rounds fight, we don't have an idea on how they'll fight in the ring as we have not seen them fight before but KO would be nice to see to spice a bit the main event. By the way, betting odds is also open now.

Nothing but money-making scheme where the promoters are using the known personalities' fame to attract viewers and fans' interest.

You are right in terms of this sport. It's not for everyone. There are many aspirants who are trying so hard just to get that
chance fighting and showcasing their talents. Who's until now is on the waiting list.

While this kind of fight has easily been settled and scheduled, I understand that it's on the promoters and viewers to
Entertained this fight for their enjoyment.  Wink

People will watch this fight out of curiosity, but they don't expect a top-notch fight that you can expect from real boxing, they can hype this fight but people already know what will be the outcome, it will result in a draw or to who comes more prepare here, it's hard to predict who will win because I don't have knowledge or have these two fights before.

usually, exhibition fights have prior arrangement or agreement with both camps. so this kind of match is not good for serious bettors as they can easily lose owed to unfair judgment. right now, they are staging this kind of fight as people are still watching this, esp those with large following.
so dont expect much from this fight. just enjoy and as much as possible dont shell out money.

If you take a look at the bigger picture, the boxing organizers for these exhibition matches are actually expanding their target market who potentially buy the ticket or If there's a PPV for it. So, that's the reason why they are hiring different sports celebrities to fight as their fan base could actually shoe support by watching them fight plus the boxing fans who potentially wants to see then fight.

Yeah, you're right this kind of event shouldn't be taken into consideration to make a serious bet. Exhibition matches is fixed.

Campaign Management?"Hhampuz" is the Man

Boxing is getting more on the money making side now instead of actually entertaining and making a good fight against players. With all the exhibition matches that involves either both amateur that has literally no background in boxing, professional and boxer wannabe, and retired boxer against an amateur. The matches are now just made for the sake of profit and not really focused on the core of the sports IMO which makes it boring to watch. These kind of matches are not for everyone since not all of us are fond of exhibition and undercad fights. I guess their target audience must be the fans of the players. I'm still wishing for a worth to watch fight despite all of these. After all, there could be unexpected turn of events during the match so we'll never know.

The sense of the game loses whenever this kind of exhibition bouts were scheduled to happen where those fighter that has been involve were not a professional boxer or even those fighter had never been through intensive training to condition the body and strength of the fighter. I mean I didn't mean that the boxing is not for them but the game is not also for everyone aiming to be involve in this kind of sports takes time and needed intensive trainig, this might only looks like that the bouts are just for the sake of money.

I know Deron Williams is good at making big shots in basketball but I have never heard or read that he involves in a brawl fight just like Rodman, what's the reason for picking him, and what's his qualification, boxing is a high-risk contact sport, there should be a stipulation on how new fighters like Deron can go, I don't expect much on this fight, because this will turn out to be an amateur fight because his opponent also does not have experience in boxing.

I think there should be a clear guideline as to who is allowed to fight in a serious boxing match. Boxing is not an easy sport anybody could just enter. There are numerous cases of boxers who died because of their matches. Not to mention those who acquired illnesses, those who became permanently disabled, and those who got injured seriously because of boxing fights.

I don't know how well-trained these athletes are in boxing but they should not underestimate the sports.

The news came out and I'm surprised that I will see another retired NBA player fight in boxing.

FORMER NBA All-Star Deron Williams is entering the boxing ring, possibly against a fellow former pro athlete.

Williams, who played 12 seasons in the NBA, is fighting in the undercard of the Jake Paul-Tommy Fury event on Dec. 18 in Tampa, Florida.

Organizers have yet to officially announce Williams, opponent, but he is reportedly set to face former Pro BowlerFrank Gore, who played 16 seasons in the NFL.

Last time I check, an ex NBA player Nate Robinson got knockout cold by Jake Paul, and now another ex NBA star trying his journey in boxing, this must be fun.

Most probably their purpose is to entertain and to have some money as well, since this is an undercard there's no assurance that they can get a full attention from the crowd though seeing an ex NBA players and a retired player, makes me think that Boxing is getting weirder now. Lots of exhibitions matches between those retired players out of boxing, this might really be the trend now, there's no full retirement for them.

Me either, I have no doubt that todays boxing is getting more weirder than ever. From vloggers like Jake Paul and his brother Logan Paul who are now entering the boxing industry for more money exhibition fights and now ex-NFL and former NBA player, like it's not pure boxing anymore just like those days. I mean, I have no issue for them to fight and re-claim their name again in another field of sports but it's like so easy now for famous people to get fight and spotlights and unfair for the aspiring pure boxers who want to carve their name in the industry too. Don't you think?

So yea, boxing industry now is just a pure money and lots of exhibition fights.

This industry is becoming more shit as we do go ahead on future years to come.Lots of exhibition fights and less official fights? What the hell is going on?

Arent they aware that  people doesnt really need these kind of fights and we need those real boxers fighting on a real punches and not just with those known or celebs that do take out some profits easily.

It is true that this is really getting the attention and opportunity of those legit boxers who do tend to carve out their names
because of these kind of bullshit fights.

Even if they are not fighting for sure both of them are well trained since we know Deron is former NBA player and for sure he used to trained everyday since that is what his routine even since before and Paul is already trained fighter so its expected for them to have this training but this will matter only on how they discipline their selves. Also I think age will play a huge role here knowing William is already at his 30's.
Training for basketball and training for boxing are very very different two things. Plus even if you "train" boxing while being a basketball player, that is mostly for conditioning, since boxing is a very very tiresome sport and after just few rounds most people have huge fatigue that they can't handle, it is clear that most of the time people end up with tired arms and can't continue and it is a great conditioning training. So not like they are training to be great boxers, they are training to get their arms trained with boxing so that while shooting in a game, they won't be as tired.

Now using that training boxing won't be enough, they would need to get a lot better and a lot quicker. They won't do that, they will train a bit but not really take it seriously, just for a few weeks and that’s it, then they are back to their lives. This is simply exhibition for making some cash and nothing else.

I wouldn't compare Deron Williams with Nate Robinson...  Since retiring from the NBA it's quite obvious that Deron Williams took up weight lifting to replace his basketball energy.  The guy looks like he got a steroid addiction or something.  He's massive.  Anyone that big with the sort of athletic ability that Deron Williams has is going to be a dangerous person in the ring.  I surely wouldn't want to fight him.  I don't know how much he weighs these days, but I have a feeling this fight would be the first time many people will have seen Deron since he retired.  They're going to be shocked...

Good point, there's a daily routine to maintain his physical body, but he needed to add more workouts since boxing is far different
from basketball and the trainings to increase your stamina needs some extras, though it's just an exhibition. But I'm sure both fighters will extend some effort to make sure that they will give the fans some entertainment.

Who knows if fans see the competitiveness between Williams and whoever the fighter he will face, another set of exhibition
will be rewarded for them.  Roll Eyes

Just saying the possibilities, it's still on the promoters side to decide if they want to pursue giving another opportunity to
Showcase their skills. Grin

Maybe the one that drove Deron Williams to enter exhibition matches is his interest in boxing and MMA for a long. It was reported that he owned a stake in Fortis MMA, a Mixed Martial Arts facility that trained MMA fighters.

And there might be a misunderstanding to others as Deron Williams will not fight Jake Paul. He is just on the undercard, as clearly stated on the subject and up to now, there's no official opponent.
Yep this could be one reason why he wanted to be in the 'scene', sort of. And he used to be a wrestling as well while he was in college. So maybe he could have the discipline and train to fight in the Fury vs Paul fight.

He needs to scratch that itch so to speak and that's why he is a willing participant and will make his boxing debut in the card.

By reading the thread title, we can already understand that he is on the undercard of the Tyson vs Paul fight. Until now there's been no announcement yet on who he will face in this fight, all we can read online are just rumors, but it's good for the fight as it showed how people are interested to see this fight, more rumors mean more interest.

@harizen , thanks for that little trivia, now we know that he also has an interest in combat sports and owning a stake on Fortis MMA, that proved his genuine interest.

Jack of all trades 💯
.. with Deron Williams that are having a past wrestling experience when he's young I don't think so, I mean I'm afraid on how will Deron will going to receive punches either on the two opponents.

We're curious about how these two fighters will react comes fight night, will they have sparring first so they can stage the fight right, Basketball and football are contact sports but they are not hurting sports, where you win by hurting your opponent, I wonder if we will have two chessplayers battling inside the ring in the future.  Cheesy

They surely started their training now because they need more time to learn how to be entertaining in front of the fans. As what I witnessed in the past exhibition fights, I have not yet seen a fighter that does not have experience in boxing win a fight, but since both came from other sports, then most probably it will be hard to guess who will win, but let's hope we will get a surprise that would entertain the crowd, not to bore.
Yeah right, it's tough to guess if who will win since both of them are not really into this sport, they are just doing this stuff to earn money or to earn some fame back. It needs for both fighters now to work it out and be fit for sure stamina is their big concern. Boxing is far exhausting compared with other available sports.

Not just your body but more on your mental capabilities, though it's just exhibition fight, they still need to train well to avoid any
risk with their health and make sure that their body is physically fit for this sport.

Still, even in an exhibition match, the fight will require a good conditioning of the body. Even Deron is an injury-prone in NBA, we don't know the status of his continuous training. I think he can last up to 4 rounds but since we don't have any idea who will be his opponent, we can't give a wild analysis about the match for now.

No God or Kings, only BITCOIN.
Maybe Michael Tyson will going to showcase his skill in boxing and Jake Paul too but with Deron Williams that are having a past wrestling experience when he's young I don't think so, I mean I'm afraid on how will Deron will going to receive punches either on the two opponents.
But, from leaving the NBA life and open his own MMA gym I think it's more like align from that perspective. What I mean is that it can be learnt, well, we will see it in the actual fight but not seeing yet some training videos from him and I guess that's something to watch for and maybe assess it.
