at least it's safer and more promising than having to choose new coins, most of which just throw away and die. traders will understand better in making decisions on choosing the top or bottom coins

if the market is in a bearish trend all coins will go down so there is nothing good but if the market has changed the trend to a bullish trend the top coin will go up first and also the top coin will not die like other coins that can die at any time

Investment in cryptocurrency could be short term, medium or long term. My personal preference for long term investment is in top ranked coin like bitcoin and ethereum. When it comes to short term trading, in my opinion anything can go as long as its profitable since it would be held only for a short while.

Hi Everyone,

As advised I am trying to learn the basics of crypto first.

Most of the suggestions mention investing in top ranked coins. My question is, does it always work? As far as I understand, the market is vulnerable and affects almost all the coins from top to bottom. How then you determine which ones would stay ?

A good question.

It depends on market condition. I prefer to invest in more known coins when the market is not in good condition. Because when market is downtrend, it is better to stay in high volume currencies not to loose too much. low volume cryptocurrencies can be dumped more easily.

But when i feel that market is in uptrend, i take some risk and invest also a little bit in less popular coins that i trust.

Top altcoins are at least not scam projects, investing on top altcoins is more safer than new coins and even if bear market makes them lose value they will still be alive because of their usefulness, in terms of ROI new coins can actually do better

not always, but if investing a significant amount its mostly in top ranked coins because i need something that gives me some certainty
must be at least top 50
i know only 1 low marketcap project that deserves a significant investment

Investing in those top coins is still a good idea as they were on the market with their community's support that can attract more investors. We have a higher risk, unlike those newly completed ICOs, as those investors would dump if the price goes down. Even though not all new coins have that nature, it takes time to develop as I observed, and you need patience to wait for your profits.

Investing in top coins is a safe option for investors, but returns are very low. I think when we enter this market, we need to take risks and spend a lot of time to search for some new projects because it will be a choice that brings a lot of profits for investors. This year there will be many new projects for you and it will be a very good opportunity for you to consider investing.

Of course the risk will be much higher than the old coins but if you know the analysis, you will avoid unnecessary risks when investing. I have tried investing this way for many years and have brought me a huge profit.

My strategy of portfolio management has changed drastically from year to year. 2017 trends made me invest in ICO too which I can't even think of now. I had a diverse portfolio from Bitcoin to low cap to ico tokens. But 2018 I completely shifted to bitcoin. I was holding no altcoin and that saved me from a lot of bloodbath. In 2019, I started buying a few large cap altcoins in the second half of the year. But still Bitcoin dominated the portfolio. This year , I am kind a bullish for altcoins. Would be diversifying my portfolio if I could catch a good entry point.

Top rank on coinmarketcap always be a basic reference, especially newbie traders.
Coin reputation in the top ranking is more value for long-term benchmarks.
of course, those who have large markets and large communities are a good choice for long-term investment. moreover, they have a high trade, of course, it is a very promising asset for investment even though there are still risks.

Well, with this current situation in the crypto market, it is better to choose from the first 1-20 in the coinmarket cap. Eventhough they are affected by the bearish situation, there is a very high chance that they will get back and you will not be investing on project that can pack off at any moment.

Most traders will choose altcoin which is really safe to invest and altcoin which is in the top 10, is a good alternative in my opinion because honestly, many other small altcoins that do not have a good future, so that the possibility of altcoin die could have been happens and it's better for us to choose altcoin which does have a pretty good development right now like eth, ltc bnb and also bch.

Ever since I started doing cryptocurrency I've only invested in only one top altcoins which is the popular ethereum and so far I have lost about 70 percent of my investment, that is bad because there are even some altcoins that are not top coins that are growing though it's not good to invest randomly but with luck it does work.. The bear market has affected all top altcoins badly

You probably invested in 2017. You would had done worse if you invested in other coins.

I try to invest in the top 100. Diversify.

Just checked after a long a long while. So far Bitcoin and Eth have stayed pretty much the same. While others such at Matrix, and Aurora have dropped quite a bit.

I choose to invest more on Ethereum and bitcoin than the other top cryptocurrencies. I also am interested on investing on new projects that I know has potential and good to hold for longterm. Like for example last year, there was Harmony(One) and Matic. We should look out for these kinds of project.
I personally invest mostly only in the coins that are among the top 50, I think there are the most promising coins, especially I am sure of these coins.

Generally, the top ranked coins are a safer investment. So, I try to stick with those if I'm planning to hold longer term. If I'm just looking for a quick trade that will go through less than a week then I will trade just about anything. However, for long term holding, I usually only hold ETH or BTC. I know they're not going to be completely worthless in a matter of a few months.
I agree, and top ranked cryptocurrency has more potential and definitely has highly chance of increasing their value in just a couple of days or weeks because there is a lot of investor and trader are trading them.

And mostly, those ranked coins has big potential and surely in the future they will be uprank much more.

Many investors are investing in the top coins because it is likely to thrive and can follow the flow of Bitcoin, and we can see many investors who get huge profits every altcoin price that already has potential up Because their choices are very precise, in addition to investing in bitcoins investors also choose some of the altcoins that are in the top order because that's how to get the results as they expect.
In addition, it may also be the reason they chose the top 100 coinmarketcap cryptocurrency. For example, to minimize the possibility of risk loss because altcoin will definitely touch the new ATH and provide profits for investors or traders.

Top coins are already established coins, investing in them is less risky then investing in some new coins. Most of my money goes
in the Top coins, but from time to time I choose some low ranked coin that have potential. We can't deny the existence of low ranked
coins, some of them have potential to improve their rank in upcoming years.
