We believe in God because God has revealed himself to us. How has God revealed himself? He has revealed himself in creation In the original creation, before the fall of man, Adam and Eve enjoyed perfect communion with God and with each other. As a part of this perfect communion with God, they saw him clearly as he had revealed himself in creation. But because of their wicked desires and actions, they “did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened” (Rom. 1:21). In other words, when Adam and Eve fell, their fall involved more than the loss of original righteousness; it also involved the corruption of their whole nature, including their understanding. Because this is my Fathers world, and continues to be after the Fall, the objective validity of Gods witness to himself in creation remains, but unregenerate man cannot and will not recognize it.

So he has revealed to us but not really because none of us were there when he ''revealed'' to us. A lot of people believe in a lot of different gods which all claim the same thing, I don't see any reason to believe in yours more than allah or zeus.

You are also taking for granted that what a book says it's absolutely true, why?

Believe it or not, it depends on us, whether we can understand the book that God sent down to us as a guide and guidance to live life in this world because there is another life after life in the world.
Believing in God is very important, especially for me, because I myself already feel how peace we feel if we follow the instructions in the book that God sent down.

"God" sent down shit.

The Bible was written by 40+ authors over the course of 2500 fucking YEARS.

Anybody who believes otherwise is mentally retarded.

Reality sucks, deal with it.

That's a harsh claim man, you also once believed in Santa, did that make you retarded?
Don't be rude.

A lot of very smart people are religious, it is the setting we are raised in, sometimes we don't question it and some smart people do believe in god.

People start developing critical thinking skills around the time they go to school, at 6-7 years of age.   So, until then, we all believe in Santa Claus, Allah, Zeus or Jesus.  It is ok, it is part of growing up, you know, to separate what is real and what is not.

But, if you as an adult claim that some guy sits in the clouds and watches your every move, that is just batshit crazy.

A lot of smart people are schizophrenic, paranoid, not sure what is your point?

You are dumb as a rock if you believe in the Bronze Age or the 6th-century nonsense.

Being religious is a mental disorder.  One day it will be classified as such.

If you think that Allah will give you 60 virgins if you kill people who do not believe in him, you need a medical help.
If you think that wearing magic undergarments will protect you from the evil forces, you need a medical help.
If you think that a female mammal can be impregnated without a coitus, you need a medical help.

It's also very clear from this thread how stupid the reasons for believing really are, you can check all the posts, there is not a single good argument of why they believe what they believe.

I do believe in God and a higher power. My belief in Him makes it easier to go through certain hardships in life. Also, it comforts me when I am afraid and alone.

I believe in God because he captured my attention. Look around you, look at this world. We are a sinful people captured by ourselves and by what worldly things we can get. Even other religions are not about the things the people are worshiping.

Yes, I do with all my heart. I beleive in faith that God exists and that faith transcends my senses. The mere fact the earth was created, the way the nature works, it is not an accident. If there is a grand design then there is a designer. And if there is life, then there should be an author for it.

I do not believe in God. For me it is more a mythical being and an echo of religion. I believe in myself and in people close to me.

Yes, I strongly believe in the Lord who has Sends His Apostles to convey the Revelation to his people, and I will never leave it I belief in God the Great and the Knower.
"God doesn`t need us, but we need God"

So it is with Religion, Religion don`t need us, but we need Religion.
Because, Religion is a guide for those who believe in God and His Messenger, Religion is a barrier to human behavior from bad behavior, and many other things I haven`t mentioned.
