Keeping track of your gambling money may give you advantage to have a close look at your profit & loss and play gambling with care but at the same time if takes away the fun of gambling from you. You will be more concern about your financial gain or loss and will not be able to enjoy the gambling.

But don't forget that we might feel sad or regret if we see the loss that we already got, and that can make us think to recover the loss. I think the profit and the loss will be different, and it could be bigger the loss than the profit so our mind will want to get the loss back by playing other gambling games. But we can hold ourselves from recovering the loss because we don't want to lose more money in gambling.

Perhaps, only a few gamblers who have to track their gambling money by creating a file contain a report of profit and loss from time to time so they can see the details of their gambling time from that report. As long as we can prevent the bad thing that might come to us, then it is okay to have a track of your gambling money.

It is only me who thinks that if you can see your gambling records or history, it just diminishes the fun that you can experience in playing? It's more of like, limiting yourself in playing through thinking about your losses? Why not just try to set limitations? because for me, seeing your losses will just discourage you from playing further, though, it is a good precautionary measure to avoid further loss and addiction. It still depends, IMO gambling sites should also have that feature for you to view your playing history, in order to be transparent and at the same time, show concern to the players.

I don't track my gambling data cause it's a hassle for me and I think it's not justifiable for me to record my own gambling data.

Why it isn't? If you are gambling with the purpose of improving yourself so you can be profitable in the long run, then tracking your bets is a must, that would give you a big picture and you'll be able to analyze things clearly.

Maybe he doesn't understand why it might be useful.
I believe that keeping records of your losses and winnings can be useful for rational financial accounting and proper management of your money. And it will also help to stop a person's addiction to gambling for those who lose a lot of money.

I perfectly understand you, mate. In fact, who wouldn't want that? Smiley That's why some people are going to Las Vegas once in two-three years or so, to put all their worries aside and to gamble away a few hundred bucks, keeping no track, no anything. And that's fine. What is not fine is living like that all the time. Some rich folks engage themselves in this harmful way of living, and they can't stop until they hit the very bottom. Do I envy them? Hell no!

So, it's kind of a good thing that we don't have unlimited resources and that we must keep track of our gambling activity. It helps us to evolve. While their wealth only helps them to degrade.

I've never been to Las Vegas and I've never been drawn to it. In my country, there is a casino in every major city and there is no problem to go and play. However, most people understand that gambling is addictive and do not visit casinos at all.
My friends and I sometimes go to these places to have a good time, but we always have our expenses limited. And how I wanted to be a millionaire and spend a couple of million and not take into account these losses.  Grin

However, you are right that it is better not to relax completely, it can tighten.

Yes, I keep tracking all of my records because it is easier to identify if you actually earn a profit or lose a huge amount of money it depends on your style if you think you are still in a good earning to and continue this kind of strategy but if you are not continuously earning better to stop for a while and think about your mistakes because it is good to know to avoid into your future gambling games. What are the things I used to record my games? Basically, I do not need to have a logbook or looks like a ledger all I need is to have paper and a pen because I preferred into the traditional way because it is more secure and no one can see on it than using the computer and another storage device that can leave any traces on my account.
But I hope once you saw your lose is big it will not cause to trigger to recover your losses because we know once you do that you will lose more in high possibility. Recording your winninv and losing money is a player choice and I hope the other player who already saw thwy losses and once they are addicted player will be minimize playing.
At least that is a concern, maybe for me personally because I will not be easy to stop gambling once I get a bigger loss record, so to overcome this I only prepare money or capital for one day in gambling but basically it is not money that can spent and will end gambling if all the capital I have on that day has been exhausted and as much as possible to control myself better even though sometimes it is forced to make more deposits. Indeed, every player will certainly have their own strategies in controlling and managing everything, so whatever method they apply and as long as they are comfortable to do it, of course nothing will be a problem even though your losses are greater than profits.

yes i keep track of all my investments, all my wagers on the gambling and betting sites, i do a spreadsheet with google docs on the computer, i have a bankroll dedicated to gambling and at the end of the month i roll the sums, i calculate all the games won if the sum in my possession is greater than sum invested then i am in gain, some months i win and some months i lose
I salute your perseverance in updating your spreadsheet every session you have  Shocked Can you please tell us what kind of effects do you experience since the day you started tracking your gambling data vs the days that you just keep playing and not recording your data. I am happy to hear a personal experience from other users here since I don't track my gambling data cause it's a hassle for me and I think it's not justifiable for me to record my own gambling data.

Sometimes I envy such insouciance.

Well, it's fine if they can afford it, but it's only fine up to a certain limit. Typically, people start to degenerate mentally when there is no need to worry about anything for a long time.

It's just that we're all discussing how to keep track of our expenses. How to spend less on gambling. How to get rid of addiction. How to earn money to provide for your family. And someone absolutely does not worry about anything and plays for fun.
So sometimes I want to put all my worries aside and not worry about anything)

Some avid gamblers may specifically refuse to track how much money they lose. For example, not to worry about losing a huge amount of money in a short period of time. Or so that the wife doesn't see such records.

That would be a bad practice, I'd say. Keeping the track of your wins and losses in gambling can help you improve your money management overall, which can be very useful in your other activities. Gambling can be a good platform for learning the very basics of economy. Only don't gamble with high amounts, lest your education become too expensive. Wink

There are a lot of smart people who understand the need to keep track of expenses and income in gambling. However, there are always people who do not understand this. They live quietly and do not worry about anything. From time to time, they lose a couple of hundred bucks in poker or roulette.

Sometimes I envy such insouciance.

But a lot of gamblers have no money management, that's why most of them don't keep track of their winnings/losses. lol Or if you are a small timer or only play occasionally, for me, there's no need to record your expenditures unless you are an OC person who jots down all the expenses everyday down to the cents you are shelling out from your pocket.

I didn't mean writing down all your debits and credits, cos indeed it could ruin all the fun. Also it's hardly necessary if you are playing with amounts you can easily afford to lose anyway. What I meant was keeping an approximate track of your deposits and withdrawals to exclude the possibility of going beyond limits.

Tracking expenses is rather an optional thing because some wont really matter that much or consider such tallying because they are willing to lose up the money that they had allocated for gambling and doesnt look back on how much they have lost on that particular day or into further days to come. There are some games which do need some tracking to see if you are profiting or not but on general case
it isnt really a mandatory thing for you to do so because once you do see the list that you are losing much this will just push you to play even more because you would aim for recovery.

Tracking expenses and revenue is the key to successful financial planning. This is best done for the entire household. this way you and your family will be able to manage your money correctly and become richer.

Gambling is an expense in most cases. And expenses especially need to be carefully monitored.

if yes, how do you track it?
simples spreadsheets, physical notebooks or maybe some different way?

Although I do not track any of my gambling win or loss, but for those who want to track is there any ready made software available in the market where you just input the value and it will give you graphs and data for analysis ? This will be easy for people who really what to know how much they are winning/losing in gambling.

If gambling is not your means of livelihood, you should not, gambling for fun should be, come and go if you are going to list your winnings and your losses, chances are you are not going to enjoy the game the fun factor is not going to be there anymore, because you will see the big money you've lost than the small sum of money you've won.

I can agree with this, if it's not important for you why would you keep track? You risk how much you can lose, and no worries if that happens, in case of win you can do with your money whatever you want, more gambling or cashing out and buying some cool stuff!
Keeping track of deposits and withdrawals doesn't need to be strict, in most casinos you can check your transfer history and make quick math about where are you, but I rarely do that. I don't like when I am losing too much in a row, but after some time I always get some win from somewhere and it's how I survive for years in gambling!
