That is why most of the ICO and around 90% and more are using the smart contracts which are based on the ETH blcockchain and nothing else. There are many more other platform available out there but how many of them you see getting involved with the ICO's.
ETH has become traditional blockchain for the new emerging projects and it is also sorting through various problems of the project. The blockchain is getting developed all the time and scaling issue will be resolved too. So on an average it does have some spark.
Ethereum itself does not provide a good solution for private transactions. However, because it allows developers to write their own contract logic. The ideas of these privacy protection systems can be well transferred to the Ethereum system without changing Ethereum itself. There is no need to redefine the currency based on privacy technology.
