Yes hopefully it's clearer now that generation rate isn't at all the main factor in pricing. That's because replication is unlimited.

Also, if we want people to read this thread until www.coinzen.org better known it would be better back in the general subforum, not 'announcements'. Don't know how/why it moved?

I was reading about doge and I understand they want 5 billion new coins a year.. the steady inflation rate being predictable to me was alot better than flexible inflation.. and I think the new wave of thinking agrees that some inflation is needed not a hard supply limit unless your bitcoin... Anyways that was my own theory that a preditable inflation rate was key.. and I have no research to back it just common sense to me.. but I tend to get these things right when thinking about the economy.. mayne all those years in forex helps..

So I found this quote:

“As long as it’s at a steady and predictable rate, you would want that inflation rate to more or less match the growth of the global economy,” James Angel, a finance professor at Georgetown University, told Ars. “In order for a currency to survive, it’s got to be useful. One of the problems we learned with gold standard was that it’s too inflexible—it takes too long for gold miners to dig it up out of the ground. Having a nice, steady, predictable money supply is actually a good thing.”

on doges website.

Now my question is isnt devcoin way better because it offers utlility through being able to work for shares and merged mined with bitcoin? Seems to me doge technically isnt as good.

Question is it a money transmitter? Then needs regulation unless we can somehow show its not for profit because devcoin recieves it all not a person.. if so we might find a gray area.

dammit i was planning on using cp... now what?

It's fairly limited for altcoin payments with http://paysha.com/ accepting only BTC, PPC, NMC, and BEN for payment.

I've used https://www.btcmerch.com/ for BTC payments in the past, and in communication with them after I switched to coinpayments they mentioned they were working on an altcoin payment solution, so it might be worth sending them an email at [email protected] and asking how they are doing with that.

There is also https://www.gocoin.com/ but it only accepts BTC and LTC.

Maybe DVC developers could come up with a payment solution, and use profits from other coin proceeds to buy up devcoins to bolster prices?

Unfortunately coinpayments.net will be shutting down due to US regulations regarding financial transactions. The last day a transaction can be placed through their checkout solution is March 24th, so if you have anything you wish to buy from a merchant, you would be well advised to do so soon.

Quote
It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce the closure of CoinPayments.net.
FinCEN has ruled that Bitcoin is in their purview which would make us a money
transmitter. We simply do not have the resources to register with FinCEN and most of
the 50 states as a MSB and comply with all of the AML/KYC laws (and no realistic way
to raise the funds to do so.)

The shutdown will happen in 3 stages:
1. We will stop accepting new user registrations effective immediately.
2. We will stop processing new transactions at 11:59:59 PM EST on March 24, 2014
(transactions already in progress at that time will be completed).
3. The website will otherwise remain operational until 11:59:59 PM EST on March
31st, 2014 when it will be shut down.

........

We extend our sincerest apologies to you and everyone else who has relied on
CoinPayments for over 7 months.

Until March 24th I am offering free shipping and an unadvertised 15% discount for DVC purchases at http://btcpipeshop.com/

I think it would be something like fiverr.com but cater to crypto community.. not just devcoin.. but payment would be done via coin payment to use the service.. some really small amount for now to entice users.

Fiverr is going to accept bitcoin but doesnt help those with alt coins and wont do escrow ai
think. If we cater to alt coin community we can create a niche market.

Anyone have success loading the Mac OSX wallet? I can't get it to work and it's stalling my joining of devtome. Any help will be appreciated.

Nevermind, I think I figured it out.

Also, if anyone isn't aware of what sidjuhag is working on, I am in agreement that his work will increase the sexiness of devcoin.

The bounty system that is used within devcoin is going to be made available for anyone in the devcoin project. The admins have a sweet system of identifying what needs to be done within devtome and devcoin in general. As they see things that need to be done, they offer bounties for them http://devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin_bounty_now. It will be different in that you have to provide your coin for the bounty. Thus, if you have a project (related to devcoin or not),you can post a bounty for the part you need but can't finish.

Everyone will be finding their unfinished projects are finished with devcoin! Bounties make the world go round.

(sidjuhag can feel free to make corrections or additions to this description. BTW, sidjuhag, what do you think about allowing people to offer coin amounts instead of share amounts? My husband keeps me informed of your projects Smiley)

I agree and after i do the devcoin penny auction business I will introduce a site that will allow people to post projects as bounties payable via devcoin... they can deposit other coins like ltc btc and we would give the users credit based on exchange rates..

We already have  a system where admins assign bounties and you can see them and I believe it is not extended to allow people to create their own bounties but what I would offer isa nice frontend website pleasing to the eyes and winning people over on first view. Devcoin bounties would be featured and others bounties would be offered if users pay a small fee.. this would be how to amortize costs of running it aswell as bringing profit back into devcoin. In the end we should treat it as a business.

devcoin bounties would be share amounts but user bounties would be absolute coin amounts. We would need to ensure the devcoin bounties are not undercut by users posting bounties that already exist as devcoin bounties.

Users posting bounties would deposit the coins into the site and paid to the worker used as escrow after the person is happy with the work. This avoids people from getting work done and then saying sorry i cant pay you.. But I have half the coins right now?

Love the escrow idea, takes out a huge concern for people wanting to participate.

I hope people realize this can be something that really connects the purpose of devcoin to the outside world. Facilitating creative collaboration on a global scale…what creative person WOULDN'T want a network of creative types, potentially a pool of unique skill sets thousands or tens of thousands deep, to help their own creative projects?

Just keep some devcoins available at all times and you can possibly hook with anyone with your own bounty to get your creative projects to the level you want them. Have a great podcast episode but want some audio scrubbing? Check out the devcoin bounty site. Have a blog but want it revamped to your liking and you don't have the know how? Bounty website. And so on. The potential is definitely there. And if their becomes a culture within the creative community to ALWAYS have some devcoins (because they facilitate cool collaboration on your projects), we now have a huge new foundation for devcoins. People will want to hold and use devcoins because of this.

Keep us updated, I will put on some coins once users can do absolute coin amounts.

About half an hour ago the Devcoin/USD equivalency jumped from $0.0002 to $0.0078.

If this is a software or data-entry glitch then it's amusing.

But if it's right I might be retiring soon.  Roll Eyes

Just small remind about our exchange. We made many minor updates to interface, seriously improved security. We are still fast and our support is very responsive.

In reality most of the investment in all alt-coins is for quick returns. Today there are 100's of alt coins and more everyday. There is a limited amount of money that can flow in to these coins and lets face it, DVC isn't "sexy" "cool" "funny" or very profitable at this time. I will still hold mine and wait for better days.

I hope to change the sexy part soon.

I thought 50 was the floor, looks like it may be low 40's

There is no floor, depends what people want...  they keep dumping into the bids instead of using sell limits... that is very bearish attitude of a market.

Until we see a change of pace in exchange of hands (IE: volume increases) and/or we add more features to devcoin which is what I am planning, we won't see anything changing until the next pumper comes tot ry to make money off of a devcoin pump.

A sustainable increase will happen when there is enough volume(demand) to overcome supply. You can help by trying to get DVC onto more exchanges to drive up volume, because volume is key to drive price up.

I agree we need to get onto more exchanges and we need to find  ore people to use devcoin.
