that means the market cap would have to be at least 2 million dollars to make a good site. We have about 15 devcoin admins, and I estimate we need 30 to handle everything. Because we're short admins, a lot of things don't get done. For a new site, I want to have at least 30 for devcoin plus 20 ready to go on the new site.
...

Current Market Cap:
~105950 blocks*50,000 DVC per block=5,297,500,000 total coins in existence

5,297,500,000*0.00000039 BTC per coin = 2066.025

2066.025*~130 per BTC=$268,583.25

For now we can fund:
Simple Extension (Software)
Card Game
Medicine, Extra Mineral Water

(according to http://devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin_bounty)

I made the facebook event for Devtome, have not added any links to the actual site yet, so that it doesn't seem like spam. For now it is just a creative writing event Smiley Eventually it will be a creative writing event, with tons of links to Devtome pages, as well as offers for people to get paid for creative writing on Devtome.
https://www.facebook.com/events/578546728875825

Please join if you have a facebook page, I have over 1,000 people to invite, but I promise that is not enough. I always wish I had more people that would invite friends whenever I find a good event, because my 1,000 just doesn't do enough.

edit: I added one link Smiley

Would anyone mind if I made a Facebook event to get people interested in Devtome?

I'm not sure what it would be yet... If anyone has any ideas let me know. I'm thinking something like... "Official Public Grande Opening" or "Writers Month" promoting a month of creative writing, and the support of that creative writing all sometime early next year.

What do ya'll think?

I think it could be helpful. Cross-promote to places like Reddit too.

I've posted Devtome articles all over the internet. Everyone should post theirs everywhere.

Unthinkingbit, have you seen the "why is there no coin for artists" thread, https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/amc-why-is-there-no-coin-for-artists-293692 Huh

Nope, thanks for bringing it to my attention.

What happened to your projects we went and got all those new domains for?

Nothing yet.

Quote
is there some problem securing all the domains required so that the announcements can be made?

The problem is that we don't have enough money or admins to make other sites. I estimate it would take at least 10,000$ to start another site, 20,000$ to do it well. Assuming not more than one percent of the market capitalization is used for any one project:

I asked you, Jasin, and Emfox to grab the domains now, because coin domains are being snapped up today. I don't know if or when we'll be able to start new sites, but we can certainly afford to hold the domain names.

A question about Devcoin wallets for those in the know please.

I've just downloaded this wallet:

windows-exp installer version https://www.box.com/s/crfmuuhe0f32w5g4nt4i

from:

http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=how_to_get_setup_earning_devcoins_by_writing

It's downloaded and the program has opened successfully, against my better judgement I've allowed it full access to bypass my firewall and it certainly looks like a Bitcoin wallet with the green Devcoin logo at the top.

My question is, how many blocks are going to be downloaded, is it the full Devcoin blockchain and how big is that? Already after only a few minutes it's downloaded almost 50000 blocks and used up about 60mb of bandwidth. I'm using super portable but super expensive wireless broadband internet and I just can't have this download continuing without end, it's going to cost me a fortune. To give some perspective, I'm paying a ridiculous amount for 4G (my choice I know) and I get 12gb for AUD$180.

I'm trying to participate in the 'Earn Devcoins by Writing' program and need a wallet for this, I've written my first article but I need to get some perspective on how long this blockchain download is going to be (if I can't I'll have to pull the plug on it) or I need an alternative wallet like Electrum that can accept Devcoins and is 'lite'.

Any ideas please anyone?

We are around block 109000 I believe.

I have a leaderboard on my site (dvc4giftcards.us) as well as a link to devtome.  Factoring in the signature and the post, wouldn't that be 1+2+3+1=7/5?

Sorry for bringing this up again, I am trying the clarify!  Smiley

You don't get credit for both a leaderboard and a link, because the leaderboard is a link.

Ok  Smiley

But it'll still be:
Leaderboard: 3/5
Post: 1/5
Sig: 1/5
Total: 5/5?

Should be. It appears that the marketing may have been pulled prior to your creation of the site or something. I'm also missing 2/5 from somewhere.

I've compiled a list of places that you can buy stuff with devcoin, though I'm not sure if all of them are active.

Devcoin Stores:

*may not be active

My plan:  Smiley
Devcoin hasn't been updated in a while, right?  I'm thinking about a "relaunch" in which we catch the devcoin client up to the new bitcoin-qt's code (with receiver files, etc.), and keep the blockchain.  I am just not sure if that is possible without a hardfork.  With the sleek new client, we could start offering bounties for stores, more exchanges, etc.  The publicity will bring in more writers, thus diluting the value of the share.  Since the new writers will have so little, they will sell for high prices (they want to make the most $$$), making the buyers go higher!

Improvements to devcoin:
I think the block reward should get cut every couple of months (maybe a gradual scale down to manageable values).  The number of coins is too high, so people sell for low!  For example, we are now at 45k foundation, 5k miners.  After a couple months, 40.5k foundation, 4.5k miners, decreasing the total block reward by 5k each split.  (The Megacoin block halving really killed the coin, gradual reduction is best).

I am no expert on cryptocurrencies so please do not be too harsh on me, but give some thought to my suggestions!

Of course you could just sell your art directly for DeVCoins, if it is good enough that people will buy it why wouldn't people who have DeVCoins buy it?

-MarkM-

I'm not just looking to benefit myself. I would like this to turn into an opensource artbook, beatbook and maybe even eventually facebook.

And I'm going to add a review section to Devtome soon, we can have one, even if it's not official. And EVERYONE watches TV, or netflix or reads books or plays video games.

What we honestly need to be doing is making Devcoin shops. (I am going to make a silver store and a book store when I can).

If you make a PURPOSE for Devcoin it makes people want to BUY devcoin AND earn devcoin. So really it is the BEST way to support the coin. Rather than hating on video making, or talking to Devcoin girl. You could make a page offering your own devcoins for video bounties too though.

Yup so obviously there are two sides that directly relate to each other.

1. Ways to earn devcoins
2. Ways to spend devcoins

So by doing 1 we can increase the amount of hands dvc are in to avoid big dumps as some will save others will dump.. but you will decrease the amount of big dumps by people who earn alot right now... the more hands the better for dvc price in my mind. But dvc is worthless unless 2 takes place.

As of now only ways to spend dvc is to convert back to btc thus sell dvc but if a marketplace existed then you would have incentive to start holding as a market would force upwards pressure on a coin that is essentially at rock bottom.

As a summary as more ppl earn devcoins they all earn less instead of a few earning alot.. as you earn less you value the coin higher as you put in more work for less reward.. as more ppl earn also the higher chance of more coins being held. The more ways to spend then the more pressure upwards on the price as some will buy coins to use the marketplace which is the way that the price will rise.. as of now there is no incentive for the price to rise as it cant stand up on its own 2 feet yet.

This is why I brought up devcoin girl.. its the reason i invested in devcoin as it sparked my interest.. without it I may have overlooked the coin and just held ltc instead.

If we have more vids like a general crypto fan doing updates but wears a devcoin rocks tshirt paid with sole devcoin through an advertising campaign it would fo wonders if at the same time we had a marketplace to spend dvc.

So I think there should be ppl working on 1. ways to earn and 2. ways to spend they go hand in hand.

I'm down for making videos and having people make videos too, I'm just saying that no one is going to support it. I tried literally EXACTLY what you are talking about, I just didn't give her a script (and I didn't pay her if you plan on paying her) and I still got hated on like crazy for it.

I think the best way to do it right now, is just make videos yourself. Tell her that she should make videos (help her if you want, but don't expect other people to be happy about it, I don't know why, they just freak out. People even said I must have hired her on Fiverr. She was making Devcoin videos before I ever asked her to, and I still got hate for it.)

And even BETTER than making videos yourself, sell something for Devcoins. Then make videos of that company.
