I think the merit system is not a good system there has to be something different that would be better, I've made plenty of good posts and didn't get any merit for them (the only merit I got was bc I was already a member here and got the airdrop when it first came out) but it is REALLY HARD to get merit TOO HARD you need to have a better system implemented I don't like this merit system at all.

This is the best decision you've ever made Regard the spam issue . you literally killed thousands of spammer and multi accounter.
Alot of people was creating new accounts to participate in bounties. Now that era ended.

You can simply add the ability to carry signatures starting from member / Full Member , as projects need to be promoted by competent users.

You can also try to tie the activity on the forum to quantities merit. Ie if the user upon reaching a certain activity will not gain a certain number of merit-his merit is subtracted from previously obtained .

And so until declining rank. Those who want - will try to get a merit. If someone is not the rank and he's just on the forum for information (not bounty)-let remains a newbie.

Marketplace is indeed a pain in the a**. I just think it's very hard to do these kind of checks. A massive amount of posts are posted everyday.
One option would be KYC verification for all BCT users, so that you can ban people forever... Don't think that that's gonna happen soon...

why KYC ?! you know Many users used Fake Name do not be Another bittrex !!  Sad
you're IP address better than KYC !
and ID verification Can Forged Easily and scammer They have experience Counterfeiting

I consider this change to be necessary, although it has affected me. Recently, the number of accounts and, accordingly, the flood has grown a lot due to participation in the bounty. This will also affect the quality itself, which is useful for Ico projects, and for participants as their quantity will decrease. We can even add a certain condition for the rank according to activity, so that one can't just buy merit and increase rank.

I am now a source the best way for me to be neutral is to look at a list of names of jr to newbie and read posts.

I now have a list and have decided to pass on the first 2 people on the list.

I do have a concern about people selling merits.  0.0010 is cheaper then 0.0020  for copper purchase.  I am not selling merits I am reading posts on the list I have been given.

But My concern would be other sources will sell that 1 merit  for 0.0010 btc.

They'd be risking red trust if they do that. More likely some old/hacked accounts could engage in such sales.

good point.

I looked at the first part of the list sent to me from thermyos

| id      | name                      | loginDay | activity |
+---------+---------------------------+----------+----------+
| 1197204 | ZUTEN12000...........|    17792 |      364 |
| 1183714 | rakkhusi.................|    17792 |      336 |
|  985565 | abdu_hz..................|    17792 |      324 |
| 1192004 | cobs27...................|    17792 |      322 |
| 1130372 | Anhdienhg .............|    17792 |      308 |

| 1240244 | scolcoin                  |    17792 |      308 | He may get a merit

| 1298826 | wandogim................|    17792 |      308 |
| 1333241 | dendenseptember.....|    17792 |      308 |
| 1341161 | suzychan.................|    17792 |      308 |
| 1382518 | D4smin....................|    17792 |      308 |

I do not want to  get these people marked up with red trust  but I do want to continue do this tomorrow.

I have hundreds more to check these have the most posts.

My assumption is posting this list is okay but I will stop if thermyos says not to post it.

One caveat is there are some posts in other languages which I don't know.

about 475 names  on the list sent to me.

Are these restrictions for those who have been demoted? "newbie wear sigature"[1]
[1] https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.43272911 <- i think this is copper member, but with HIDE text

I forgot to wipe non-demoted newbies. Fixed, thanks.

Also, I just realized that I did wipe 0-merit Jr Members who were also copper members. I undid that.

i update my profile, but - on this section - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=credit;promote

i can HIDE (copper member) and make posts without jr.member and copper member text

1 - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=credit;promote

2 - post with copper member text

3 - post without copper member text (HIDE - copper text)

A thought (which may hurt newbies and alike  Roll Eyes), should the qualifying requirement be increased to +5 merits??

It should, but then people would just be buying or begging for 5 merits instead of 1.

Pretty fucking sad if you can't cobble together 1 meritable post and are only here to abuse the forum, purposefully shunning a treasure trove of knowledge you could be using to make far more money than you ever would as a bounty hunter. I'm totally going to search for these people on Telegram and fuck with them.

But if you're incapable of posting anything worthwhile, then you will never rank up, and you shouldn't: this isn't the forum for you.

I really like the way you do this, because the current spam phenomenon causes the forums to be overloaded and virtually the bot is everywhere. This is a useful forum, and if someone get something worth it, they need to contribute something in return here, hopefully this will make the forum more active in the future.

I believe that the innovation is correct. And I supporting the policy of the administration. But, of course, it's a unexpectedly to see a drop in rank. But, I think, that it would be more correct, as with the first introduction of merits, to give Jr. Member the necessary measure, and limit the new members. But this measure is good, because most likely, now, the content on the forum will be better and there will be less spam, which is very nice!

I'm glad we wear the copper membership to allow our pictures to remain.. some of our clients weren't so lucky.
Paying 0.02 BTC ~ $135 USD and becoming Copper Member is easier than buying Merits from Community.
This is the best solution for Newbie members at the moment, because I know earning Merits for cool topic/post is not easy for all of members, especially for members of local forums.

Due to excessive garbage-posting, you now need 1 merit to be a Jr Member. All existing Jr Members who didn't meet the requirement were demoted.

One reason that I was hesitant to do this before is that there are an awful lot of newbie restrictions, and I don't want the forum to be unwelcoming to good newbies.
Sometimes, it becomes obvious that some persons don't just want to grow up. The new rule notwithstanding, those good ones will still prove their mettle. It will not stop both the good and the bad from joining, but certainly, it was a deserving rule. What needed to be done has been done.

Wo! Wo! How many did notice that within less than 2 days there have been more than 9K views and 600+ post on this topic ?
To be honest i hope this new requirement will help newbies to learn from the forum and contribute to the community in order to earn at least 1 Merit to be a Jr. Member. Although as someone mentioned that account farming is a great issue as purchasing 1 Merit is just like a piece of cake.

I hope in near future forum administrators will also come up with new requirements in the marketplace section as it's full of scammers/peoples bumping in less than 24 hours as well as multiple misleading topics.

I love that most of the demoted Jr. Members who posted a complaint in this thread is now back to Jr. Member. Roll Eyes

Yeah they are, but this isn't the spirit of the 1 smerit requirement. The main thing about creating just 1 breakwater line is not to stop completely the waves from reaching the coast but to limit it as much as possible.

Thanks for pointing that out, MagicSmoker, because it seems to be a continuation of the topic that I have already been discussing with BlastMechanism.. and surely, s/he/it seems to have a lot of views that are at minimum in tension with each other and surely some folks would have already written him off as being highly contradictory and perhaps compromised.

Currently, I am NOT sure, but I do find it quite problematic when members become overly defensive in their posts and then resort to what seems to be exaggerations in order to make their points.  I understand that even older members can sometimes be guilty of the same (defensiveness and exaggerations) including yours truly, but frequently when older members are called out on their erroneous ways they can often engage in a kind of dialogue that at least tempers their behavior, even if they do not admit to the transgression (including yours truly).

I did give you a merit for pointing me out to that post and your thread, even though I don't agree with all of your points in your thread, it seems to be a good proposition to consider and for members to consider how much due diligence they believe is prudent prior to meriting newbies, especially those newbies with a relatively long history of nonsense posts.

I should really spend a bit of time in Meta... all the discussions I'm missing out on.

It doesn't feel that long ago for me, when I first joined (re-joined actually, first time I came only to browse and post a question, second time was over a year later in 2016, couldn't remember original account so made this account). It's pretty common I think for the early members of online communities (and older newer members like yours truly) can forget how it feels like to join a new community talking about what is still a very new technology for many.

I shudder when I look at my old posts. And worse, from chat logs in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Half my smerits I credit to posts I've found useful and educational. Half I divide to reward those I've found to be entertaining and generally, I do try to reward active members who do their best to contribute (in whatever form). That's probably very subjective for people.

I can appreciate that I had barely turned Hero when merits were implemented. My points gained since would only have made me a full member after 7/8 months. Assuming I continue at this rate, which really is doing no more/less than what I do, I'll rank up in 2020 and that's fine for me.
