I think you should consider the ability to buy merit for yourself. You can already effectively do this by way of purchasing a copper membership. Based upon the fact that well under 1% of active users have received a single merit, there need to be additional ways for people who do not post garbage to rank up.

Buying merit or normal ranks is like buying yourself a bunch of trophies to put on your shelf. It's stupid, and it's an insult to everyone who achieved it legitimately. I can't see ever doing that. I don't particularly mind letting people pay for some of the privileges of these things, such as with copper membership, but it should be a parallel system.

Copper membership is good. Now, if you want to participate in signature campaigns, you can either pay the $10-$20 for copper membership or accomplish the herculean task of making one good post. I don't think that it's unreasonable in either case.

If people are making good posts but are still struggling to get merit, then that's a problem with the merit system and should be fixed on my end. Demanding money in order to bypass a broken system would be really bad. But AFAICT the merit system actually is reasonably effective at identifying good posters.

This is really not cool. Why only newbies and Jr Members has to suffer each and every time? So before merit system people who are legendary right now, got into that position by their quality of post ? No right? They might have spammed too to get into member,Hero member and legendary. So why no action on them ?

Moreover being a newbie or Jr Member if someone post a constructively no one bats an eye here to give merit. But being a hero member or legendary member when someone posts everyone loses their mind and someone gonna merit it.Sad truth.I am just saying the reality of Bitcointalk right now, just posting on behalf of all my fellow Newbies and Jr Members.Hope the justice is served.

Last thing let's start with a polling mechanism here before you guys take any random decisions like this and ask participants to adhere on it,if bitcoin is decentralized why not Bitcointalk ?

Its Hard to get Merit as far as i know!
i mean i'm trying for a long time!
yesterday i even tried buying merit with being scammed!
I believe in this Forum leaders and Administrators ate doing everything to keep this Neat and clean!
Jr Membership was a great opportunity and i kinda lost it now.
But i dont give up and will keep up!
But i have some suggestions for Bitcointalk:
*Making Reports Partiality Visible to whole community along with its decision. I myself did report a post for copying mine and is still there which is Sad!

*Scmamers Should get banned not just REDed! even after being RED they continuesly Scams people

Thanks if you took it under consideration amd thanks anyway!

I think it is  a good idea to have that merit system upgraded eventhough it breaks my heart that I see my account goes to newbie again and can't wear signature. It is good for this forum to lessen the spammer because I am a victim of those scammers. Hopefully I get some merit soon.

I think this will be very good, especially in eradicating the spamer and the bounty farmer. although there might be a lot of trouble for beginners like me but I will work hard to get merit in the forum that we love together. Cheesy

It is very good that the number of sources of merit has increased.
By the way, usually, people say that in order to get merit, you need to write useful, quality posts. However, I noticed that many quality posts do not receive any merit, due to the fact that members of the forum have no merit, which they can give.

2nd that. But if you notice the post that is of good quality, you can bring it to attention so that merit source are able to credit them.

At any decision there will always be those who are unhappy. Even if everyone decides to give out chocolate, there will be those who have diabetes and they will express their negative opinion.  Wink

Just a proposal..

To avoid so much no needed posts. Maybe it is worth to control signature campaigns?
Most of bounties require about 10-15 posts a week, not really understand why so much is needed.
If this number will be reduced to, for example, 5. It will reduce number of not needed posts at least 2 times!
In my opinion, the more posts you need in advertising campaigns, the more mess and spam you get. If you have something wise and good to pass on to other forum users, just 2-3 posts per week is enough.Looking from the advertiser who wants to see as many people as possible, the client requires a large number of posts. Here you will write something in this topic, you will write something and make spam everyone will write anything so that the week will be credited
If the problem is posting from the signature campaign, why is there no limit to the bounty program? and participants to follow it. I think by implementing such a rule it will be more effective in cutting off posts that are not qualified. In addition, there must be a bounty due diligence because currently the problem is the fraud behind the program.

It should be quite easy to get that 1 merit for any Jr.Member on this forum, but when I check some of them who ask others to look their post history it is quite clear how they have one big 0 in received merits. Most of them post in forum boards which are too hard to read because of too many spam, and merit sources do not even visits that parts of the forum.

So in order to get merits that users first need to understand that this forum is have more boards then Bitcoin Discussion or Alternate cryptocurrencies, and also to improve their writing skills. Give something to forum and you will get something back, trust, respect or merits.

In my opinion 1 merit is to low request to become Jr.Member, most of them will find way to get that 1 merit and after that we will have same spam behavior as before. What would really help to this forum is disabling signature until user is reach Member rank, personally I do not see it as a drastic measure but only one that would help to prevent garbage-posting.

If this is the policy by the moderator, then I would say we must have to follow even if we had more than a hundred activity. I feel worried about the situation but I need to step up and just continue the journey as I believe I could be able to get a merit soon. Moreover, with this new rule, I think that it could also lessen the shit postings.

I hope it will help reduce spam a little bit, but unfortunately for account farmers, 1 merit is not a big deal they always can buy it.
Is there any use buying merits, with 0 knowledge of cryptocurrency in general,it will ultimately result in disaster, one merit rightly earned is better than 10 bought

In fact, I read some newbie accounts getting merit from posts that I think are ordinary and not special. Actually what kind of posts are worth getting merit? This led to suspicions that merit was indeed obtained from buying.

It is true that the signature campaign demands to make a lot of posts, so that the hunters do not care about the quality of the posts, the important thing is they get the stake from the bounty. However, on the other hand that is actually a waste not from the signature campaign posting, but from posting social media reports, and it is not useful in my opinion.

Posting of social media reports could be solved as well. Just ban this kind of posting. There are many ways to replace that, such as google forms, and so on..
Another 10% of shitposts will gone.
