Could we maybe stop newbies from starting new topics as well? Meta is unusable right now.

Edit:

That won't happen, as Theymos wants newbies to still be able to come here and use the forum. Some come here seeking technical advice/troubleshooting and would need the ability to create a topic.

Clarification: I meant just in the Meta board. Even if just for a couple of weeks until this all settles down. Agree it won't happen, but ugh, I dread to think how many times I'm going to rage-quit in the next few weeks.  Grin

This is also normal.
Where I live we say "to give time to time". Everything will soon be resolved and spam will decrease automatically, as happened months ago when the system of merit was introduced for the first time.

They are on Denial Phase right now.

I think it's a fair decision Roll Eyes,  because in order to find something useful on the forum I I had to scroll through a lot of shitposts.

There was a plenty of time to get one merit so let's repeat after Theymos: "if you're incapable of posting anything worthwhile, then you will never rank up, and you shouldn't: this isn't the forum for you".

Personally, I support this decision and am very happy that Theymos decided to implement it finally.
There will be less spam and abuse. Bounty campaigns will be again useful to everybody. ICOs will see more investors and gain popularity in an organic way. Bounty hunters and all other BTT members with +1 merit in their accounts will benefit from higher stakes and more opportunities.

1 merit requirement is just hilarious and every newbie should be thankful to Theymos that he implement such a light version of this new regulation. I thought it is 5 merits until I read Theymos post. Clever decision because this could be changed later from 1 to 5 or even 10 merits if spam and abuse didn't end. Additionally added 36 new sources, more than ever on the forum so now is the best time to get this golden merit.

If you are not able to then maybe this is not a forum for you.

I would like a copy of the demotion list.  I am willing to read  all the posts to  see if some should get a merit.
I think you're looking at a few million posts to read. You'll go crazy from the lack of quality. I have no doubt some of those millions of posts deserves Merit, but it's like finding a needle in a haystack.

Just look for polysyllabic words.  There probably only 100 or so.

yeah I could do it.  ten bad posts and done maybe 15 bad posts.

but with out a list not even a chance to do it.

and not to complain but no one answered me what does a copper membership cost?

We should definitely restrict newbies from starting topics in Meta + Self-moderated threads. In fact, mods should be taking strict actions against threads which are redundant, no quality content and brings nothing worthy to the post. I see people creating threads for linking alt-accounts when thread already a thread exists for the same.

Instantly the number of shitposts "disguised" as quality posts rise. Newbies making topics on how little they care that they were demoted and how they welcome this change. Yeah, sure you do, that's why this is your first post outside of the Altcoin Section.

This might not sound so good to the affected members, but the truth is that it will help everyone in the long run, the amount shitpost on the forum doesn't allow the mod to see some post that deserve some merit, so with this implementation, the number of post will reduce in the forum as we have witnessed today in the altcoin discussion, So I will say big kudos to the mod for this great move to save this wonderful community.

While I agree Meta is currently a shitshow with everyone creating a topic instead of just posting here, but it should pass in time. I think it was like this for a while when the Merit system rolled out initially, it was mostly people a few activity periods away from ranking up.

At some point in time there is usually need to reform any process,  this is what is happening  in BTT.  These Enhanced newbie restrictions and requirements  will reduces the poor quality of content by members of the great forum that provides  the needed community to support both new and existing  members in the world of cryptocurrency and the blockchain technology. It is just a call for everyone  to go back to the drawing board  and provide quality  content  for the betterment of the forum and it's members. I hope for the best.

I LOST MY SIGNATURE SIR ON CAFECOIN  IN THIS KIND OF ISSUE IM AFFECTED

You present as a very reasonable person (or bot).

And, yes.  I am sure that your plight is going to be helped stupendously and more expeditiously through your choice to emphasize predicament WITH

 ALL CAPS!!!!!!!

(Emphasis added for comedic irony).

Classic case of the Rich getter richer and the poor getting poorer. Lol. Anyways even though this affected me, guess we all now have to buckle up with creating meaningful posts.  Grin

Surely, you don't seem inclined towards creating quality posts, and if you actually considered the matter of how much effort it takes to make a quality post, you might come to realize that it is NOT as difficult as you are implying it to be.

It doesnt make sense to pay for copper membership and still newbie in rank.

Spammers can still pay 10$ - $20 for the membership and continue with the spamming.

The solution is just a palative one. The issue you are trying  stop still continues once one is able to pay.

Its not making any sense to me.

If your intention is stopping unnecessary spamming and akward posts and coments, you need to come up with a more lasting solution.

Bold move from @theymos. Setting the new changes in motion I think was really necessary, and were the top required changes that could have a large impact on the forum (apart from flooding Meta for a few days/weeks – an acceptable small lateral effect in my opinion). Things needed a bit of a tweak, and we now have them.
The Forum sets and tweaks the rules for the playground. We (all of us), on whichever roles we play, are the ones who have to make this work better. This is no ordinary forum, and therefore things are set in motion that are not common in other forums really.

First think is making sure that @theymo’s OP is actually somewhere on my Local Board. I’ve seen it referenced indirectly, but not translated. On to it...

Edit: done. OP translated (Restricciones y requisitos mejorados para newbies (novatos)).

Please where can one find those 36 merit sources mentioned?
Any link or something?

I believe the 36 sources were added in sections with poor merit source coverage from the 'old' merit sources.

Source: I talked to a friend who became a merit source

Don't try to find them, you will be ignored for sure in addition to a bonus : negative trust..
They will find you instead if you make valuable and contributive posts..

My forum Position: Newbie. and I am happy with this. There are so many a/c who are create only a/c for work bounty. Also the have  multiple a/c. Hope administration of Bitcointalk be strict. Increase a/c rank by its activity  & merit. Also there are some good account who are now Newbie rank for they dont have merit. So, request to all merit holder Member please also observe good a/c & bad a/c If you think any a/c are good by its activity please share your minimum merit. Otherwise any Newbie can't promoted as Jr. Member.
