Maybe the bonus of rank jr members participating in the signature bounty will be canceled and I will be among them. With this meta will greatly reduce the rate of spam so that the Bitcointalk community is better. Although I'm a little bit sad, but now I have to think for a discussion of something or try to create quality topics that can be found merit from someone.

Awesome! Great news and a great amount of pages quickly by the time I found it..

This is better than just new merit sources, also coming with more harshness to 0 merited posters, which is also great..
I don't think it is too harsh and could be harsher as hilarious suggests so be grateful, it could be worse..
Their really isn't much point in complaining about it newbs, because if you can't get 1 merit, you need to do some serious self reflection..

BTW this somewhat renders things I have recently posted about sources giving higher numbers obsolete, this is ultimately a better solution if it proves to be enough..

Maybe this will also lessen the contrary opinion to a youtube channel Smiley

I usually wouldn't post this late in a thread but felt the need to throw in my 2 satoshis worth of of GOOD JOB THEYMOS..
Long live Bitcointalk!

I find myself agreeing with the rationale behind these changes, of course there was no way of going ahead based on how things were a few months bac prior to the introduction of merits.  However, my complain then and now is, it seems to me that the majority of people tend to hoard merits.   In many cases, note worthy posts some of which i can claim i have made, have gone unnoticed nor merited by anybody.

Obviously i accept this is the state of play as posts are merely opinions really and at best subjective.   I guess my point is whilst this is a necessary system and an effective improvement, i think further tweaks may be necessary to make earning merits methodically achievable.   As things stands, i would argue that some of the best comments/posts have not all been merited therefore folks who may deserve it are not getting the merits they deserve.

Using myself as an example, i would like to think that many of my posts have been helpful/insightful for some people yet haven't received any merits for any of them.  I could be wrong, but i wound't mind anyone taking a look at my posts and if it turns out i don't deserve any merits, feedback on quality would be appreciated.

I absolutely agree that not all posts deserving merit have gotten merit.. That is plain to all..
Their are many reasons for that and they are being discussed and worked on..

I f you would look on the bright side, this change may hurt some newb accounts on one hand but it should also get a LOT more merit flowing out there now to help to reach these posts that haven't been merited, so (prior to looking at your post history) this new change should be beneficial to remedy exactly what you are stating in your post.. "to make earning merits methodically achievable" as you say..

i wound't mind anyone taking a look at my posts and if it turns out i don't deserve any merits, feedback on quality would be appreciated.

I'll take a gander at your posts and let you know if you should just keep up the good work, make suggestions, or call you a dipshit spammer, but I'll let you know.. PM

Oh my god, this is very sad news for me I work here this forum beginning this year February I write many post but unfortunately I have no merit point. I always active this forum and never bad post in this Bitcointalk forum. But today I heard that news my heart is broken. My all work now finished. So now my first target is achieve 1 merit point and become Jr member rank . If I not get 1 merit point my 8 month hard work is now finished.😭😭😭
So you're always active here in the forum since February? Then why you didn't even managed to received any Merit yet? (because you're spamming). About that bold part, are you serious? Because I went through your posts history and all I saw are nothing but spams. You should spend some time visiting your own post history too sometimes.

Spammers doesn't deserved to have a job or earn here. It's your fault for choosing up the wrong way.

Edit.

One merit might take a while to gather, but it's not unreasonable to ask before being promoted.

For the new merit sources, perhaps they could be given the guidance to focus specifically on accounts with 0 merits (and a quick review of their post history). That way new members won't get frustrated, since they should receive a merit relatively soon if their post history is "normal".

I don't think that "buying" older accounts is a problem necessarily. If moderators ban spammers, it's a lot of money to keep buying new accounts just to spam.

My only recommendation is to further limit PMs for newbies (maybe just 2-3 per week, why would anyone need more right at the start). If we focus on giving them one merit pretty soon, it shouldn't remain a problem for long anyway.

I was trying to contribution from dec 2017 and still trying day by day. Your guideline will be help people to contribution in this community as much as possible. People should more contribution in this community to keep moving. Personally i think this is the right decision. Hope everybody now careful and try to value addition in this forum by there real merit. thank you

This will not change things for the better... Not all newbies are spamers. And they can spam now as they did before.

How will a newbie create an announcement post, a serious one, without pictures in it???
Oh, I think it will.  And even if it doesn't, the screams of agony are sweet music to my ears.  Having said that, Theymos wants merit sources to be liberal handing out merits to newbies, so I don't think this problem is going to be as bad as everyone thinks.  For some it definitely IS going to be hell, but what do you expect?  Most new accounts don't contribute anything worthwhile, and that's a solid fact.

As far as the pictures go, buying a copper membership would solve that problem.  Theymos wrote about that in the OP.

I am very sad for demote newbie.
Well step it up, then.  With all the posts you've made, there's no excuse not to have earned at least 1 merit.  That's the whole point of the change.
Thanks for your opinion to me. I will try to good relative comment through to forum.

Yes, this will do the trick. It's almost 8 months since merit system got implemented. It's already a long time and if a ranked user hadn't manage to get a single merit, this shows his/her inactivity. This will also affect account sellers who holds high ranked inactive accounts.

Goodness me, nooo....that would be counter productive i think.   Not all posts get the merit warranted by the quality of the post.   I think such move would in effect result in a kind of 'double jeopardy' lol.  On the one hand, folks doing their level best to create quality contents but not receiving merits for or receiving a single merit per 100 post or something of the sort, to then lose that merit would be a slap in the face IMO.

Some, myself included are active.  I seldom post on bounty threads but i haven't received any merits.  Now if i were to lose a hard earned merit, it would be incredibly painful lol.

This might be a possible solution to think off.

What it would be like if shitposting Hero, Full, Sr who never received a single merit in this 8 months gets demoted  Grin
Like this one? r1a2y3m4 hadn't receive any merit since it was implemented.
I'd say the next step should be for everybody (all Ranks!) to lose 1 Merit every x days. It could be as low as one per year, or maybe once every 3 months. That should demotivate users from buying one Merit somewhere.
Any normal poster won't be influenced much by losing 1 Merit once in a while.

But it's a good start already!

Meta is getting completely flooded with threads by newbie, it's quite unbelievable. Is still not clear if it looks more like a humanitarian disaster of some sort of aftermath of opening Pandora's box  Shocked
If somebody would put all this effort in one single post they would realize get a merit is not an impossible mission.  Smiley
Well, let's atleast expect it for more couple of days (or weeks) Cheesy

This will be a historical day for spammers just like what happened before the Merit System was implemented back then.
Let's just brace ourselves for more incoming spam threads.

This new rule seems to affect me a lot. But I adhere to the rules. You know, when you look at my post history, you'll see I'm just a prize hunter. I just want to make money for my life. I forget that contributing to the community is a necessity. But I could not do more. My English is not good. And we do not have local community on this forum (Vietnam). sometimes i want to write something but i can not speak english.
Okay, the new rule is an opportunity for me to learn more.

Despite the surprise and disappointment that my ranking has returned to the newbie, the rules must be respected for the better quality of the forum and reduce junk posts. One merit to go up to junior members, I think it's still wise.

It's quite obvious that you didn't get any Merits for your posts bounty reports. People here didn't want to waste their sMerits for just underworld reports.

Many of these limitations can be eliminated with a copper membership. In particular, you can set a signature at Member level if you wear a copper membership.
I even supprised to see how High_ASD has able to wear a signature since he is a newbie and is it anything to do with copper membership? If so it has to be changed.

Finally, I've been waiting for this one. Now, let's see some changes around here. Nice one theymos, you really are the Boss.

I LOST MY SIGNATURE SIR ON CAFECOIN  IN THIS KIND OF ISSUE IM AFFECTED
Wow, that's a good news. Seems like the new restriction is working fine.
Admins!!! What you have done will lead to the fact that now massively will sell merit and who will not share it! Or you are interested in it themselves( to sell merit)? What you have done I believe is illegal! Think again, while the community has not found another forum!!!
There will be definitely a lot of Merit trading will happen, but as long as there are some good members who helps Moderators and the community, we will catch those Merit traders. Oh anyway, what do you mean that it's "illegal"?  Cheesy And what? You're telling theymos to think again? This is a made up decision and I'm sure Admin won't regret anything on implementing it. Also, who cares if spammers go look for another forum? It would be great actually.
What happens to those who makes good posts and yet are unable to get merit points?
Can you give me some examples of those users you were talking about?
Nice development from the admins...i think the junks I keep reading by this newbies everyday will reduced.

P. S: I will appreciate if I can get a merit from anyone, at least to keep my bounty task going.. Thanks in advance 😊
Begging for Merit!
Noted.
However, I feel there's still need for some adjustment to some of these rules.

Regards
Yuph, this new requirement is not yet perfect and need some adjustment, how if instead of 1 Merit to be Jr. Member it should be 5? Much better isn't?
I do understand why this had to be done but I've never spammed.
Have you ever tried to look at your spam posts history?
What a lot of valuable spam posts you got there.
The jr member who was sent to the newbie who is participating in the signature campaign will be stopped or can it continue Huh
It will be stopped obviously, thank goodness.

why i am newbie today when i was jr member yesterday? who is explain me this position?
Oh boy, can't you read?  Cheesy
My posts were not awarded with merit Sad   and I purchased today the rank of Copper Member
It's because none of those 500+ posts deserves a single Merit.
Hi everybody. I am quite surprised about the new rules. Who can help me up jr member ? Thank you.
The only one who can help you is yourself, make valuable post and stop spamming already.
