ETH just broke 0.02...maybe you can wait until its price is higher than a Bitcoin to get in and take it seriously.

With this kind of news sprouting up all over the place I don't see an early end in sight to the rise.

This might give a substantial upwards jolt to Bitcoin/$USD price eventually because it's thinning out the Bitcoin held supply. (I don't mean reducing it obviously, but thinning it out due to the amount of hedging by large bitcoin holders).

That will reduce the supply to the risk-markets around Bitcoin while at the same time have the overall effect of pulling in lots of new capital from the fiat sector.

I think the difference in trading pattern with ETH is that we are at a much later stage in the game that Bitcoin was in 2013 and Ethereum is now pulling in investment from outside of Bitcointalk.

Bitcoin's market was confined to speculators on bitcointalk. Ethereum has a slightly bigger playing field to harvest possibly.

I've sold all my ETH when they reached 0.015 BTC. I feel bad about it now that they're over 0.017, but frankly I feel safe. I don't like it when I'm in front of something I don't understand. There's just no reason why ETH is gaining so much value so fast. Can anyone explain what's going on? The market is irrational. Hey, the quicker the rise, the quicker the fall.

Actually it's quite simple. Bitcoin's dev & the foundation are failing over & over to reach an agreement about scalability. Ethereum has a clear & defined roadmap.

This right here is why I could see ETH becoming THE new dominant coin given a long enough time frame. Bitcoin was the first, but I've never thought it would be the ultimate. Not saying for sure it's ETH, but given a long enough time frame (that part is important), another new coin is what will reach real mainstream success.

That being said, this definitely isn't the time to buy ETH. I'll be swooping in after all this dies down in a month or three.

Are people here complete idiots? Everyone will be "swooping" if it "dies" in a month or three, they have been saying this for the entire month of February and it's close to 0.02. I really think they think they are smart and feel unique saying this kind of nonsense. They talk about it as if they know the true price of ETH, like it's past them, a simple game, now that I see how it can do, I'll get it again at 0.00002, LOL. We don't even know the true price of BTC. For all I know maybe now it's completely overvalued at $430 (and should be around $200 or $20 maybe?). On the other hand this is the last time to buy under $450 in a while with the halving coming.

You'll be "swooping" in months later to buy at a much higher price

Don't do it!!

High probability that it won't break .01. BTC won't rally until ETH finishes somewhere above 008

Edit:
While what's cheap? ETH? Ha, it's up 400% and you think NOW is the time to buy?

I already got a few, couldn't help FoMO  Grin

What's wrong in getting say, $100 or $200, just in case?

It's cheap in that, $3 is a palpable value, psychologically speaking. I always thought that BTC redenomination (shifting decimal places by 1,000) would help adoption, but whatever, seems like listening to people is not their strongest point.

I've been doing the opposite.  Mining ETH and converting to BTC.  Whoever is pumping this is bringing back the days of profitable GPU mining for BTC.

How is it profitable if you are converting to BTC and the rate ETH/BTC went from 0.002 to 0.017 just this year? You actually lost a massive amount.

I didn't start mining it until the bubble.  ETH is not a currency (although it is a sweet idea and it will be successful in my opinion).  Those who are investing in it as such are going to get burned.  As long as you're having fun though, that's all that matters.

Short term, these swings are being driven by BTC drama. If BTC were to completely drop the ball, this would have a significant impact on Ethereum, but I don't think that is very likely. They will get their shit together eventually even if they have to shoot themselves in the foot a couple times first. Even so though, the money rotating in and out of Ethereum is providing good liquidity and driving a lot of new exposure.

Well good point mate but as in every drama, one comes out winner while the other die. An example? Nokia! Once a leader, they failed to adapt and quickly found themselves out of the game. I fear the same ending for Bitcoin. The incapacity of the Devs & the foundation to solve a simple scalability issue is killing the coin. Will Bitcoin ever recover from this mess?

I've made my choice few months ago. I've sold all my assets and bought ETH instead. So far, the wisest decision...

Also Homestead is coming in 2 weeks, plus recent interest by samsung and cannonical also adds to the price increase imo.

yeah negative as those who were denigrating BTC in the early days. BTC is doomed... Bitcoin's dev & the foundation are failing over & over to reach an agreement about scalability. Ethereum has a clear & defined roadmap.
