Yeah the key reason why eth so popular because that platform so good and too many ICOS use their platform for payment methods, i think that's the key reason why ethereum so popular in crypto world.

I think it was because of the ease of creating an ICO around it. Also the timing was great in my opinion as there are other more secure and easier altcoins I have seen recently.

Having a young and talented Vitalik Buterin is also a probable factor of why ETH became popular.
