Very interesting comparison that analyzes holding ETH in 2017 vs holding it today... https://cryptotradernews.com/cryptocurrency/hodling-ethereum-2017-vs-2019/

Thoughts? I'm super happy to have swaped all of my ETH for BTC to be honest

Are people still hodling cryptos these days? We all know how it went down. Everybody was shouting Hodl in 2017 and that philosophy changed entirely in 2018. I don't think anyone should be hodling stuffs anymore. Rather, I trading them between swing highs and swing lows. I know some people that have made over 200% cumulative profit this year trading ETH.
One interesting metrics I got from the article was that, Even at a $1 Trillion market mcap, Ethereum still won't be able to reach its 2017 roi. 😢

Yes, I am still holding Ethereum and Bitcoin although not that much, I am not stressing myself checking the price from time to time, I treat is as my investment and I'll just check it after few years, for now, will just check other things to maximize my income aside from joining bounty and signature campaigns, I do trading too.

eth prices in 2017 follow the trend up of bitcoin prices and also in 2019. for those who have swap/sold their eth to btc, it looks like you get a profit for making a good decision. I know the current situation is really very frustrating but we must be more patient and see after end of this years what will happen next.
During 2019 I benefited from holding Ethereum which I bought in early December 2018. Placing a 1:1 profit target at that time was the most realistic thing for me. Until finally I had the opportunity to resell Ethereum with a profit ratio of 1:1. After that, I did the same thing when Ethereum was around $ 150 in April and resold at $ 300 in June. During 2019 I thought I made a big profit from Ethereum with a ratio of 1:1. I think Ethereum will always be a good crypto investment destination and I prefer long-term investment.

It is very annoying indeed if comparing ETH prices in 2017 with ETH in 2019, the price difference is very drastic. Time for 2017 $ 1500 and
now at 2019 $ 200. Many people are already desperate with this situation, many have left ETH. By selling everything coin ETH, the average
investment switch to BTC. I will not blame anyone who does that, it is human nature that makes it humans are looking for a safe way. But
what you need to know is that ETH is a coin with enormous potential and very prospective for the future. But we really need to be patient
with this situation, the key to success in the investment world patiently waiting for the target sell is reached. I don't blame the owner
of this thread by transferring all of his coins to BTC. Just remember now is actually the right moment for buy ETH because the price is now
the lowest point, so it is appropriate to store as much ETH stock as possible. Continue staying waiting for ETH to wake up from his sleep,
then provide profits to investors. I am very confident in the potential of ETH.

Ethereum and other altcoins are not having a good time this year. This year favors bitcoin and very few altcoins (less than one percent) just like how 2018 did to bitcoin. Therefore, I don't think holding the Ethereum is a better idea perhaps in the future. There is nothing wrong with swapping your Ethereums to bitcoin.
Swapping ethereum to bitcoin is choice a person but make sure they really know what they are doing. We saw the bitcoin was increasing upto now and the people who buy and have bitcoin can earn more money. But having ethereum now is good also that because they have a good future that you have and what's I really think Why i have more ethereum than the bitcoin.

We are talking of comparison between 2017 and 2019 for ETH, right? Are you guys already analyzing stuff for ETH in 2017? Or have you been immersed in crypto or even in altcoin within those years?

I wonder why out of 5 posters here, 4 are newbies. I can smell something fishy.  Grin
Very sad if we remember with ethereum price in 2017 and how etehreum price now, last 201 we find ethereum price raise up above $1k and now ethereum this years still down lower $180, how come ethereum can be extreme dump with bitcoin still above $8k, last years ethereum can raise to $800 and bitcoin price only $7000 but now when bitcoin up ethereum still lower price.

of course there is a big price difference between eth 2017 and eth 2019. eth reaches a peak in 2017 when it costs $ 1500. and now the eth price is under $ 200. very sad but this is the crypto market. high volatility can provide large profits but can also experience large losses. but I'm still optimistic about eth because eth is a potential coin.

It would be hard to see Ethereum see the type of growth it went through in 2017 unless the team solved it main scalability issues, the driving force behind the 2017 growth was ICO and ICO is dead for now so just expect the 10% to 20% price increase

Comparing the value and price of Ethereum in 2017 and 2019 reveals the massive drop in 2019. In 2017, during the bull run, Ethereum was able to reach $1200 as its peak and now Ethereum is $180. This is a high percentage drop but we can also say 2019 is better than late 2018 where Ethereum got to $80.
2018 was by far the worst year for cryptocurrencies in general and I do not think there will be another year which will be as bad, if anything it surprised me we did not saw even more coins disappearing, maybe the developers were expecting a faster recovery or maybe many coins disappeared only to be replaced by more coins which will follow the same fate.

In comparison 2019 has been many times better than 2018 especially for bitcoin, which leads me to the conclusion that despite the desire of many investors to see a bull run during the bitcoin halving it is more likely we will see an altcoin season.

Ethereum remains the leading blockchain to develop dApps. It not only implements smart contracts, but also renders tools for decentralized software solutions, it is also being upgraded to be more powerful. This technology is also supported by the government. Moreover, Ethereum is supported by a number of companies in the Fortune 500. The above reasons are enough for me to believe that the price of ETH will return to the peak of the problem just in time.

I love Ethereum as it has real use case compare to Bitcoin and to other cryptocurrencies, and it's stability in price remains, it is not like other coins, who pumps and dumps. Still one of the best coins to hold at, I know some of us are expecting it to grow just like before, it will definitely happen again, we just don't know when.

ETH is as dead as centaurs. If those ever existed... Nothing is bringing it back to those 2017 good old days

Yeah right? As if you missed the train. Dont rant here and saying those stuff. Youre only focusing on the price tag of the coin itself. Why not view the development of eth network has done since 2017. Eth 2.0 really show some improvement. Maybe just sell youre eth if you have, some real enthusiast will be happy to catch it. Amongst other altcoin eth is the superior and most advance I guess. Better read and search facts and analyze first before making bold statement here.

You swapped all of your ETH for BTC? I feel like you shouldn't have done that. Not all of it at least... Diversifying isn't bad

And now that Ethereum is average declining unlike Bitcoin in which it dominate the crypto market of up to 70% then maybe they will now regretting it and will think that they made a mistake. So better if they just sold all of their Ethereum directly to Bitcoin as this coin is proven safe for both long term and short term investments.

ETH price differences in 2017 and 2019 are very different.  right now I think the price of ETH has fallen by almost 80% from the price in 2017. But despite that the potential of ETH is maintained and ETH is still able to become one of the best altcoins until 2019.
Ethereum is always best altcoin in crypto market so it was proved and it will maintain also but 2017 vs 2019 comparison is never useful in crypto market because Ethereum also follow the Bitcoin way so once it will going to moon Etherum also follow the same way.
I think everyone waiting for next bull run because further growing is beat and lead the other altcoins.

It really depends on how people looked on the situation and the potential in the market, but we cannot ignore the fact,m it's popularity among developers and creators, it is still the most preferred token creation in the market, some of the popular coin used Ethereum before they create their own, you only discard something that has no usage or lack of interest, but Ethereum has none of these two.

For now it's safer to save bitcoin than Eth. Eth might only follow the movements of bitcoin like dogecoin. There are many people now prefer bitcoin over altcoin to invest long.
The bounce options are not high for the price of Ethereum and the price velocity for Bitcoin is volatile which can change the whole viewpoint of the crypto community towards the crypto portfolio diversification. Taking the best bet is like gambling in the volatile crypto space, fighting for the best altcoin portfolio starts from the Bitcoin, after buying the BTC taking small amounts from promising altcoins looks more efficient solution for the recent bear market.

A lot of things have changed if we compare ETH in 2017 and 2019. Back then in 2017, we sought ETH as a replacement of BTC but right now it is struggling for its own existence as many of the alts have come up and are sought as to its substitution. However, the price of the coin had decline so much and looks way more far from the ATH that it achieved previously, I believe that it would soon rise and we will be seeing a new powerful ETH hopefully...
It seems as if it was yesterday, but you are right during 2017 there were many coins that were looking to replace bitcoin and of all of those coins ethereum seemed like the one that had the best chance to do it, in fact at some point it came incredibly close to having the same market cap as bitcoin since there was a difference of only a few billion dollars between each coin, the market of icos was incredibly strong and most of those coins were using the ethereum network so this created huge demand for ethereum.

And now only two years later things have changed radically, most investors have trust issues with icos, ieos are performing better but will likely follow the same path as icos, ethereum has not fulfilled its promise of becoming the new bitcoin and bitcoin reestablished its authority over this market and there is no one that thinks that it is going to be replaced soon.
