Hope everyone here who is thinking of putting a rig together knows what they're in for. Difficulty has continued to rise parabolically since January, and what that means is...

— Two months ago, a modest 75MH rig would net nearly 3 ETH/day (diff@10T).
— Today, 75MH barely nets a tick over 1 ETH/day (diff@25T).
— Two months from now, given the same rise in diff, 75MH will barely net you a 1/3-1/2 eth/day.
— Price has gone nowhere in the past month (still ~$11).

It's going to be much more difficult to recover hardware costs going forward if you're buying any today.

i managed to resurrect my old PC and got a gfx card from a friend- R9 280x. what has speed will i be getting on avg. on this card. Use to get 770 kh/s fro scrypt algo

Kind of same deal with me.. Luckily I was lazy, and kept my old Ltc miner 3x 7950's. Turns out these work da bomb. I'm getting 67-70 mh.. I also under volted them, each card is using less than 200 watts. I'm adding 2 more cards to max out the unit this week.  I'm not going to make the same mistake I did in old days of BTC, pulling the plug because I wasn't gett atleast a coin a day.. Lol I'm gonna ride this into the ground, or until pos. Im also buying Eth on every big dip to cost average what I purchased on its run up. I looked on ebay these cards are selling for almost what I paid for them in I think 2013=$299.00.  I like what Mastersetad said about selling, and upgrading. I may if I can get the same power effiency.

The R9 390 is almost as efficient as the 7970. So it is quite good. I will also expand with that card.

The speed will be about 21MH/s. If you undervoltage and underclock, you may have better efficiency.

Maybe the next clone of Ethereum will have DAG file start from 2GB or even 3GB, so many graphics will be useless.

Mining ETH is very simple and all that's written here is the right way to act, mine with cheap electricity and after all, sell gpu in ebay (i.e). At least, the initial costs are cheaper than with BCT.. but the logic of investment is the same... with time passing you can't make the same amount of profit, but the hardware in ETH mining aren't goin' obsolete so fast than BTC hardware are... it's a very hard thing to think...

That is the reason I mine GPU coins. I bought 5850 and 5870 to mine bitcoin, then I sold them for 7970 to mine x11.

I buy the R9 390 at the moment, they have 8 GB memory. So if the future coin requite more memory, it is OK.

Are there a linux howto? i want try to mine eth

Linux isn't that bad anymore .. If you can install Windows, and run some dos programs. You can definitely run Unbuntu or Linux mint. If you want to do it .. I recommend Linux mint 17.1 same platform as Unbuntu 14.04. YouTube for install off USB key. Just download Linux mint iso. Get a program like Rufus and universal usb installer to write a bootable USB. Boot up and your off ..
Once installed I think the daily decryp on YouTube has Geth install instructions. After that head over to dwarf pool and follow their miner instructions, and more advanced ethproxy. That's a  little more complicated.. Basically you will install everything via a terminal like dos. Command line .. You pretty much just copy and paste the instructions.. Just google and you will find a forum if you get stuck. But seriously Linux mint has a gui a lot like Windows Xp very user friendly.

Even with no free electricity, you can make profit on the mining of Ethereum. You can sell your card later when it becomes less profitable.

Or find another coin to mine. That's why I like GPUs, not ASICs.

i purchased 0.1 MH 1 year contract with 20% off on 4.25$ whose roi would be around 4-5 months. But i think if the price increases higher it will be more profitable.

ref- https://hashflare.io/r/AA62F484

non ref- https://hashflare.io/

check it out they have given the estimated ROI.

I think there is a second wave of discount contract by them. do check it out
Yes i agree it will be more profitable to mine right now if u have good gpu. but for ones like me the cloud mining option is not bad.
we all know many of them might be scam ponzi but still..hope to get ROI then wahtever profit its fine xD
Which cloud mining are you using? I was about to use Genesis Mining but they dont seem trustful.

This one hashflare. register and checkout..

Just say no to "cloud mining"..........buy a decent vid card instead & mine it yourself  Roll Eyes

You can sell the card in a few months or keep it (it paid for itself)  Wink

Considering certain factors, you can decide to mine ethereum or not. Ethereum is being hugely traded on different exchanges. The value may rise soon. However prediction is just for prediction only. It will not be related to mining.

The factors you may think about is
1. Electricity cost, if you're going with free electricity or solar like energy systems, you can save a lot of money. So it will be profitable.
2. Difficulty and your hardware means your rigs capacity. If you have a farm of rigs, you can beat the difficulty and make much more coins.

Even with no free electricity, you can make profit on the mining of Ethereum. You can sell your card later when it becomes less profitable.

i dont have a card and i dont believe in cloub mining but i have invested in that hashflare website cause of the discount offer and i hope i can get as much ETH as possible and will hold it for long.

want to know the discount offer and please tell us about the rented hashes. BTW how much mega hashes do you have and how much do you spend per Mhashes?

i purchased 0.1 MH 1 year contract with 20% off on 4.25$ whose roi would be around 4-5 months. But i think if the price increases higher it will be more profitable.

That is quite a good value for mining if the price/difficulty stays the same. Although it is more profitable to mine yourself.
