With the look of things and with the current market situation, i doubt if ethereum can overtake bitcoin anytime soon. Probably in the future it might eventually happen, but for now it does not seem like it.
Eth and btc are the two very trusted and very good currency in digital market. It is very hard to say that eth will overtake bitcoin. I think it is not possible to eth will overtake bitcoin. Bitcoin price is very high from eth. Bitcoin price going to high and high day by day eth price also but the difference between two currency is very more. So its not possible i think.
Now I do not believe in it, because the price of ETH very much fell. I think that the main merit of ETH is the interest of the ICO developers. Bitcoin has a much wider application.
In my own opinion I think ethereum can overtake bitcoin sooner but for now ethereum is to the dip.

Etherum overcome bitcoin, i don't think that can happen even in the future. Bitcoin has been taking the lead for so long, all other cryptocurrency follows BTC. Even if things change. I still don't get how ether will overcome bitcoin.
I also think that way, at this time ethereum price still follow bitcoin price. So how eth can overtake bitcoin. If it happens it will take a very long time, because bitcoin is the oldest coin of all coins today.
