You are all amazing and every time I read the posts in this thread I admire what a close-knit community we managed to build together around eXch. As nc50lc mentioned, is in high demand and our reserves are regularly empty.

However, as you can see in our last 24h volumes, we have not removed it (nor planning to do for now), and if you would like to get XMR when it's empty you can still open a backorder (this is done like any other order), and wait for the required reserve to become available. Once the reserve is available, the order gets executed in a priority automatically. Meanwhile the order is awaiting for reserves, there is an option to request for an automatic refund anytime if you consider a refund necessary.

Thanks for the clarification. I was sent this post and didn't memorize it.

I think the relevant point is that it will always be possible to reverse this exchange order if it takes longer than expected.

However, a doubt arose in my mind.
What happens when we try to exchange for a currency that does not exist in reserve?

For example, at the time of this post XMR has zero reserves. If I try to convert BTC to XMR what happens?

It seems to me that eXch's status page isn't fully automatic and this is maybe for a good reason. If it were automatic, as also NotATether suggests, there would be an incentive for attackers or competitors to disrupt and exploit the automatism. It's simple, if you can easier trigger a less favourable service status of eXch for potential customers, those will likely hold or not do a transaction thus hampering eXch's business. I guess eXch has some human judgement involved for their service status page.
We do not know everything that happens in the exch backend and how many potential threats were prevented before they even managed to affect the smooth functioning of the service. I'm not sure how useful automation would be in such cases.

Hi yes I can confirm all went through and is good, however a suggestion from me would to update system status when issues happen just so nobody is unclear about any issues that are happening before an exchange.

They should have an https://exch.cx/status page along with some software that monitors the RPC connections to their various full nodes as well as to their website and other systemd services, so that they can easily write [ONLINE] [OFFLINE] statuses, and a benefit of that would be no privacy-invading scripts or web services required.
I was a bit puzzled why eXch didn't quite update their status page during the last technical issues. Understandably some users with stuck transactions complained because likely they wouldn't have had initiated transactions knowing there have been pending issues.

It seems to me that eXch's status page isn't fully automatic and this is maybe for a good reason. I know and understand, it's no funny experience when you start a transaction with eXch and things don't run as smoothly as usual. Good to read and see that reported issues here are properly resolved.

I know right my transaction has been on hold and it's quite large and they won't refund me, I don't know if it's a potential exit scam or what it's not FUD if they are actively holding users funds. And on top of that ("All systems operational"). Also due to onion site being offline, makes me think the site could of been taken down by law enforcement, due to the lax regulation. Which btw is not why I use it. I just used it because of low fees but anyways just a heads up don't use service till this is resolved. Also I just realised that the account that has been commenting "eXch Support" which made a comment "Hi, I confirm that we are currently experiencing some technical problem. All orders will be processed as soon as possible, our relevant team is working to solve the problem." on December 27, 2024. This account seems to be a different one to the ones they normally use being that the original has a "Full Member" Position and this one that made the comment has a "Newbie" Position. Ohhh well if I got scammed no point in crying I can't do anything this should just make someone who has the skills create a dex of this, and maybe include privacy coins. We will see what happens but at least new transactions should be halted and or system updated. And current transactions able to make refunds. Regardless nothing I can do now guess I will just have to hope I get my coins.

Instead of letting more users' funds be stuck with you.

Hi, eXch was not taken by law enforcement, and is not exit scamming.

We are sorry for the delay which was necessary to process the orders, there was some hardware failure on the database node. It took some time because we had to replace some server part that was unavailable at the moment. This issue is now solved and all operations are restored and fully functional.

(By the way, the official eXch account already confirmed that eXch Support is legit in at least 2 forum messages : 1 (last line) + 2)

My 20k exchange has now been finally confirmed and I have received my coins - for me the problem is solved.

The system is quite automated and it is probably not possible to react immediately after the first stuck transaction. The most important thing is to start solving the problem immediately.
This is the first time that problems have arisen in the work, I guess it will not be the last either, but it is certainly encouraging to know that everything was always resolved in the shortest possible time and that not a single user was harmed.

The onion site is back up and running again, so they found a way to deal with the DDOS attacks. I am sure the team will start processing the backlog of orders as soon as possible, if they haven't already begun.

Both accounts belong to eXch and are operated by their people. The newbie account you talk about is a dedicated support agent for Bitcointalk that can be contacted by customers who are experiencing issues with the service.
