^I'd put Hamilton in for a surprise win one of these coming races, could be worth the odds actually.

Yeah, good thing you didn't listen to anyone's advice on your picks because you got first on the leaderboard for the Italian grand prix.
Nice one!
I don't know much about Alpha Tauri except the drivers but nothing on their performance as I never put them on my top 15 spots.

Indeed, it's a nice feeling to be benefactor of dumb luck / beginner's luck. Almost more satisfying that getting picks right for sports you're supposed to know shit about!

Tauri's just very appealing for me because of Tsunoda -- actually saw a series on him last year or year before? Aggressive little guy (literally even) but absolutely looking like he's in it for fun. And I'm kind of waiting for Gasly to avenge his RB demotion.

You could say I don't know much about the sport but I don't mind following the personalities (different rather from football where it's a team thing).

For Ferrari, this is a double disappointment - a fiasco at the "home" Grand Prix. And now we can say that their dominance is a big question (which is good for us fans). And I also noticed that Russell continues to drive better than Hamilton, I wonder if this causes some kind of tension in the team and how Hamilton tolerates it, who is used to being top 1, and now even in his own team so far only number 2.
I was also quite disappointed with the result of Lewis Hamilton. It seems that he has lost all the courage that we saw in 2021.
But the points gap between Verstappen and Leclerc is now such that Max can still compete for the first places. I think Hamilton is unlikely to get to the first at least 3 places this season.
And of course disappointed the result of Ferrari in the Italian race. I understand well the disappointment of the Italian fans. Angry

Actually, this was the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
The Italian Grand Prix that you speak of isn't until September 9.

So should I be taking out my Tauris off the finishing places as they didn't even make this?
Yes that is correct.
Sprint races were just introduced last season so this is the format they are following now for reaching pole position for the main race at the end of the weekend that the sprint takes place.
Not every track has sprint so the original format from qualifying takes precedence for the rest.

It was quite a practice yesterday with so many red flags. And today's race it looked like Leclerc was going to take it but Max came out of nowhere to snatch it up.
Can't wait to see tomorrows race. It should be a contested one as all drivers are having issues at several turns as qualifying had shown.

I definitely need catching up then, if it's been going on since last season and I'm only now just recognising it heh. At least I can not fully blame myself if you say some tracks are still in the original format -- perhaps the ones I read about happened to be just that. Probably shouldn't say much as I don't follow much but sounds like unnecessary frills to bloat the competition.

You didn't answer my question though: Tauris didn't make sprint, so should I even remove them from my picks or is sprint meaningless other than for qualifying start positions?

Starts in 5 minutes! Too late anyway ha!

Massive win for RedBull and for Max today as they were in search of points so badly this round in order to keep the faith going on.

Did Redbull resolve the power unit issue and and car over weight ? well it seems they did as Max pushed so hard making Fastest lap one after the other and Perez should be mentioned as well as he drove very good today.

Disappointed for Ferrari today but it is what it is and they should not think to much about this and should move the focus to Miami race as it's a brand new race for everyone.

Ferrari has been lagging behind for years and only this season can they show that they have enough potential. They also have 2 absolute top drivers in Leclerc and Sainz. I also rate Sainz higher than Pereze as 2nd driver. Max and Leclerc are in principle equally good, there is little difference between them. The big losses at the moment seems to be Mercedes. And Hamilton who lives in midfield, the question is whether he will win a race anywhere at all. Until now, Ferrari and Red Bull are in charge, although that is not easy to see at Red Bull due to 2 withdrawals from Verstappen. He will also be eager to win today.

However... I believe that 2022 is more for Ferrari, maybe Hammilton's dream has to be postponed.

It is not too late for Mercedes if they can fix their porposing they will be back and maybe the best team of the year again.
They have a lot of problems caused by it and if they can fix them they will be a lot faster.
The simulation was "Mercedes 1 second ahead of everyone else".

Since before the season started I also rooted and believed that Ferrari would shine on the podiums again.
They went a long time without investing in innovation in their cars and that made Mercedes shoot ahead.

I don't mean to speak ill of Hammilton, he's an excellent driver, but the advantage he had with a car that was superior to the others helped him to win titles without much effort.

But, I hope that Mercedes fixes the problems as soon as possible so that we can see fair races between great drivers who are on the same level as a car.

I do have a feeling that one of Mercedes car won't finish the race today.

Weather update : the circuit is clear of the rain but the asphalt is still wet and it will take some time until we can see some clearly paths here and there.

Predictions :

1 safety car.

Max winner.

Lance Stroll winner of group 4. ( took official bet here at 12 odd )

Sainz on podium.

Odds for the final race which starts in about half an hour weather permitting looks like this:

Leclerc is still looking like the favorite to take the fastest lap with his Ferrari engine purring.
But of course Max is the favorite in taking the race with taking pole so we will see which car performs better in the rain.
That is what it all comes down too on a wet track in Italy today.

^ That's precisely how you can find value in sports. I don't know F1 much but it's certainly true in football -- bookmaker early lines are probably the most accurate but that adjusts as bets come in and bookies balance their books.

So am reading now that Verstappen took pole for sprint. So am learning sprint winner then takes pole at the race. Was this always the case or have I missed out on F1 mechanics all this while? So should I be taking out my Tauris off the finishing places as they didn't even make this?

Russell, George 19.00

I wonder why Verstappen is quoted so much higher than Sainz? Just because he's the reigning champion? It seems doubtful to me.

Because the odds of winning are also influenced by the number of bets on one winner, for example.

If tomorrow I'm going to bet 100 trillion $ to Verstappen, his odds will decrease to 1.01 otherwise the bookmakers is not able to pay the other players.

It turns out that those who make bets against the "crowd" will be in the black, since the amount of money wagered does not reflect the real state of affairs, but only shows the public mood.

Before the races in Italy, Leclerc has a pretty strong lead over the rest of the group.  About 30 points.  I’m even surprised how he managed to beat others so well, including the heroes of the 2021 season.  I wonder what he will demonstrate on April 24 and how the points leaderboard will change?

What are your predictions?

At the moment, his car dominates the rest of the competition, perhaps his only achievement is that he was able to overtake his teammate. Formula 1 is more a competition of cars than drivers, at the moment Ferrari dominates and this can explain such results.

Made my selections early since the sprint race determines quite alot when it comes to pole position.
And with the renewed format of who gets these points are crucial to the outcome of the grid positions.

I went with home country favorites in ferrari which seem to be on a winning streak for their last few tracks.
I still have faith in Verstappen to pull out all the stops and show up on the podium.
But put Leclerc above everybody else in terms of pole and fastest lap.

We'll see how my logic plays out over the next few days of racing.

I heard some rumours that Mercedes dont bring any updates to Imola and only expecting to the layout of the circuit help them.

This can be true or maybe not, but yes this circuit can be better for the Mercedes of this year wiith bad high speed in straights.

Next weekend we will have the F1 in Italy and can't wait for that one to see which of the top three we will see take the podium on the beautiful Italia Emilia Romagna track.
In Italy, we should expect good results from Ferrari.  This is their homeland and many fans.  I think they will continue their winning streak and others should catch up with them.
By the way, the statistics of F1 races for many years states that the winner of the previous stages wins on average ~ 0.3 seconds per lap.  Just because of the fact that his victories force and stimulate him to drive the car more confidently and a little faster.
Agreed as Ferrari will have home track advantage and the atmosphere there along with their fans will be in their favor.
But I am pretty certain Max and Lewis will have their places in the top 5 this coming up weekend in Italy.
Same with George Russell. I can see him in the top 10 as his driving has improved since his time at Williams.
